《Sunlight Through The Curtains》Collateral Damage

Jacob Wright. He started out with high chances of success. Ask any one of his high school teachers and they'd tell you "Oh, young Jake? He definitely had a spark to him; big ideas too. No doubt he could've become big in business if he'd just put some effort into his work and stopped pickin' on the little guys... he was a bit of a bully back then wasn't he?" However none of them could tell you what he's up to these days, likely because his personal information is hidden away, protected by Hydra firewalls.

He hadn't intended to become a night watch officer for an underground group of literal Nazis, but his morals are skewed as are all of those who associate with a group as monstrous as Hydra.

Currently, he was out near the south entrance. His patrol consisted of a ham and cheese sandwich, a flashlight, and twelve hours of silence filled with nothing but the sounds of a random forest in somewhere France. That was all he knew really. He was never told the exact location and he didn't care. He really was a dirty bastard.

"Fuck, I love you"

Jake pulled the sandwich away from his mouth and froze. He continued to chew gently enough so that he could hear the voices. He heard what sounded like a whimper? Then a quiet "I want you." His eyes widened and he scrambled to his feet, dropping the sandwich and gripping his flashlight tight. Another thing his teachers wouldn't know is how much of a pussy he was. He thought about the gun: the one he didn't have since it wasn't deemed necessary. If I successfully brought in two... deviants, he thought with a homophobic shudder, then I can convince the superiors to give me a gun. He had already stolen two syringes filled with some orange fluid from the lab. He didn't know what they were but it was better than nothing.

Wright rushed toward the sound, "We can't, not here." He heard a boy say. Rounding a tree he turned on the flashlight and yelled, "Hey! What're you two doing?!" With the light on the boys he could see that they were Hydra officers too. It was like finding gold: getting not one, but two officers fired! Hell yeah!

The boys had backed away from each other rather quickly, "Teaching self defense?" One said wearily.

Wright scrunched his face, clearly disgusted, "Sure.. you two come with me." He wasn't sure how he remained so stoic and tough when on the inside he was quivering like a disturbed chihuahua. These men were much bigger than him, possibly higher ranked too, they could be trouble. He turned around and led them back to the base.

Come to think of it, he didn't recognize either of the boys. It's possible that they were new but this was one of Hydras most secretive bases (not very high-level security though, it's mainly used as canned food storage and for it's very small lab.) Wright has made it a point to remember everyone's faces (he tells himself he's just doing his job very well, but he really does it because there's probably a total of 50 people in this building and they don't seem to leave. Ever. It's not hard to remember those faces once you see them over and over again.)

Feeling over-confident due to the adrenaline rush, he used his communicator to alert inside security about the possible intruders.

They soon arrived inside at the main security door. He scans his Id first and gives the two guards a look that was supposed to mean "these are the boys I was talking about" but he looked more like he was flashing crazy eyes at them.

"Wright, Jacob. Level 6" the monotonous voice announces. He turns to the boys who stood motionless, "Ids?"

"Uhm, we must have dropped them when we were, um, combat training." One replied.

"You lost your Id's?" Wright questioned. Ha! They don't have any! The eye scan will prove it too! "It's okay, I lost mine yesterday. (Lie) Just do the eye scan and we'll be good to go." He continued, the corners of his mouth threatening to curve upward. I'm gonna be a hero!

The boys looked at each other oddly, then one raised a fist and broke his nose before he even had a chance to flinch. He stumbled back, one hand holding his nose, the other brushing against his side. The syringes! He thought as he felt them clink in his pocket.

He grabbed them and tossed them to both the guards. I really am a hero. He smirked.

He watched with pride as the men fell to the ground and were dragged away by the other guards.

"Now I don't know how the hell you got those drugs but we'll talk about that later." A man said with a rough voice as he slammed his hands on a table.

Wright didn't know this guys name, but he definitely recognized him. He had been pulled into some office with the base supervisor. He's the only one who goes in and out of the building regularly. The only one who communicates outside of this Hydra base.

"We just got report of five more people entering the building. They had Ids but the guards are suspicious." He stopped leaning on the table and began to pace, "Higher ups informed me that the two delinquents that you brought into our base earlier have caused us trouble before and now it's our job to take care of it." The mans face was contorted into an angry glower.

Wright didn't know wether to speak up or not, "Did you want me to tell security to take them in too?" He said nervously.

"Don't, the kid'll take care of 'em"

"What if they attack the people in the lab?" Wright asked.

"Who gives a shit." He spat. "They arent worth anything to Hydra. They wouldn't've lasted long anyway," he smirked darkly, "that's what y'all are here for isn't it? To be collateral damage?" He scoffed.
