Nagisa's pov
"YOU'RE HUMAN! NOT ONLY THAT BUT YOU'RE A HALFLING! SOMETHING THAT WAS CONSIDERED A MYTH!" Baram sensei exclaimed
"A halfling?" I said confused
"A child born from a demon and a human. Since humans were considered a myth, halflings were even more so." Baram said as he paced around the room
"Uhm... Sensei? You, alright?" I asked as I looked at my teacher who was practically slowly going insane but it fell on deaf ears
I went over to where he was, frantically talking to himself. I raised my hands then *CLAP* near his face, stunning him for a while
"Sensei, you okay?" I asked as he was slowly coming back to the land of sanity
"Yeah... YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU'RE POSITION BETTER! NOT EVERY DEMON WOULD REACT LIKE I DID, IF IT WASN'T ME, THEY WOULD HAVE EATEN YOU THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET! YOU ARE A FRAGILE BEING! A ONE OF A KIND SPECIMEN! EXPLAIN YOURSELF WHY YOU ACTED THAT WAY!"
"Well... I don't know... It might have probably been due to the fact that you somewhat reminded me of someone... And I didn't know you used your bloodline magic on me as well... And... I just genuinely want to ask about that question earlier." I explained
I sighed then bowed my head and said "Baram-sensei... Please don't tell anyone of my status of being a half human to anyone."
"I see... No need to worry, I won't tell a soul. But may I ask? How were you able to almost stab me? It was as if, you were a trained assassin." Baram asked
"It's a long story..." I said with a sad smile
"I have time if you wish to share it." He said with a smile

"When I was still living in the human realm, I went to school and was placed at the lowest class... Class 3-E. A class filled with misfits--"
-Timeskip-
After my time with Baram-sensei, I went home then did my evening routine and went to bed after texting Azz and Clara that I was alright
-Next day-
As we went to school, we arrived at our classroom to see everyone studying hard
After talking with everyone about how to help each other study, only to end the conversation in a sad note as the cruel teacher of ours, gave us a reality check
That if we don't pass, we won't get to spend our break having fun, instead we're going to have to take remedial classes
It was a cruel punishment indeed, as some we're sulking while the others protest. It all came to a stop as we felt something was wrong. We looked to where it was comjng from amd saw Baram-sensei creepily spying on us at the door
Everyone got afraid except for me, at the teacher who was rumored to experiment on students
Kalego-sensei went over to him and fist bumped him
"You look well, Shichiro." Kalego said
"Hello, Kalego-kun." Baram said
They continued talking all friendly which left us all confused
"Uhm... You two know each other?" I asked
"We're classmates." Baram said
They continued their chat until Kalego-sensei went over to Shanx and Jazz, grabbing them by their heads, as the two scream in pain and we're shouting "He can read minds!"
I went over to Baram while the others were busy watching Kalego
"What brings you here?" I asked
"I came here to see if you are fine, even if you're trained as an assassin, It would still be hard to fight against many demons all at once. But I heard, you're having troubles with your studies." Baram said

"Yeah... Even though Grandpa and Opera taught me for a month, it was only some parts of common knowledge and mostly how to defend myself. I got to the library to study some times but it's hard since I can hardly understand what the books are talking about. Making my scores less than... acceptable." I explained
"I see... I think, I can help." Baram said with a smile
-Timeskip-
After reading the picture book, I look at Baram-sensei and said "I understand!"
"Really?" Baram said
"It's so well made!" I said
"I always loved picture books, so I made them as a hobby. I tried showing them to others but they normally run away." Baram said
"It's too bad, that it's hard to make them." I said with a sad smile
"What are you talking about? Knowledge is power and essential in surviving here in the nether world! I'll make more so be sure to read them!" Baram said as he started making a new picture book
I smiled and said "Sensei as a thank you for helping me, I'll show you something in return."
"There's no need for that, Nagisa-kun. I'm happy, helping you with you're education." Baram said
"I'll still let you borrow it as a thank you. My teacher once said that a favor can be dangerous, it's better to pay it back immediately so it won't bite you in the future." I said with a smile
"Then, give it to me when exams are over, so I won't be side tracked." Baram said with a smile
"Okay, sensei."

#Same in the anime#
"I have here, your results..." Kalego-sensei said causing majority in the class to shout
"Wait!"
"Let us be emotionally prepared first! This could determine our future!" Shanx said
"Anyways, here are the results." Kalego said causkng everyone to shout "WAIT!" again
"Unfortunately... You all... Passed." Kalego-sensei said causing everyone to erupt in cheers
As we all we're happy on passing the test and getting to enjoy our break, Kalego-sensei shouted out "Shanx, Camui and Garp, come here."
The three who were called we're given a rank up as well as Allocer for being ranked 1 in all the first year
"Nagisa, come here." I heard Kalego-sensei called for me
"Out of all the first years. You improved the most... Earning you, a rank up. Keep up the good work." Kalego-sensei said
... The class fell into silence until
"EHHHHHH!"

The mature tag is there for several reasons, for now it's a precaution, but at some point there will probably appear both sexual and violent content.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
