I watched from the back patio porch as pack members shook hands and laughed before they walked off of the field after an endless day of training.
It was long day. A hot one at that.
Towel at hand, I wiped my chest of any perspiration from today's work before I smiled. I could sense him near even before he spoke to me. I knew that he wanted to say something. He had a few words for me about today's show. It did not matter much though. I was his superior; however I wanted to hear what he needed to say.
"Hm." Was the only sound my Beta made when he appeared beside me. He brought the neck of the beer bottle to his mouth.
"What was that for?" The smile on my face made it evidently clear that I was expecting him.
"Hmmm oh nothing." He gazed off toward the trees. "Just thinking about the weather, and what I'm going to have for dinner. Oh yeah, and that nasty ass show you pulled earlier."
"Foul language?" I tossed my towel onto the chair. "Is that necessary?"
"Is what you did to that poor girl necessary?"
"What? It was just a small exercise to test her skills."
His glare was strong but it quickly softened once he got it through his head that he was standing in front of me. Soon, that strict look turned into one of amusement.
"What's so funny?" I was interested in what he found humorous.
"I bet you did not think she would stuff Jazz in the dirt huh?" I looked away. I could admit, today's outcome did not go as I thought. When sending in one of my best fighters, I expected better results from her.

"I had no expectation." I lied through my lips.
"What did you really expect to happen?" He questioned.
"Just a simple training exercise." I slipped my tee shirt over my head.
"Do you want to know what I expected?" Even if I did not care to know what he expected, I knew he would still tell me. "I expected exactly what happened."
"Hmm?" I followed him into the kitchen doors. "Why is that?"
He slipped into a pulled stool while I put my focus on the refrigerator. I pulled a leftover dish from the back of the shelf before I tossed it onto the counter top. I removed the plastic. The aroma of steak and potatoes swam around me before I tossed it into the warming oven.
"You put your top female wolf into the practice circle."
"Yeah, so?" I shrugged as if it was nothing.
"With..." He shook the bottle that was at hand. "The daughter of your father's best warrior fighter. If my corrections were right, and they were, Rick has been training his daughter."
"I expected him to do so." I agreed.
"Well..." He stood from the stool before he took the last sip of his beverage. "You know now that Jazz and her backup singers are not as good as you think."
I huffed at him. He shot me one last look before he tossed his empty beer bottle into the waste basket and disappeared out of sight. I laughed as I thought of his lecture. The girl was a good fighter but not that good.
