《Inside Job (FNAF: SB Rewrite)》Chapter 12 - Quiet Morning

I woke up once again on Freddy's chair. My back hurt from sleeping in an uncomfortable position. I hopped off and brushed myself off. The wrapping for the bandage on my leg was starting to fall off. It was time for replacement bandages.

Memories of last night started flooding my head. Roxy and I had investigated a bit, and we learned that not only was Moon not receiving repairs, but that Vanessa was hiding something. When Roxy brought me back to Freddy's room, he said he was going to be having repairs. I walked to the door to enter Freddy's room.

"Freddy?" I said, but there was no one there. The room felt full with its cluttering of different things, but there was no bear animatronic to greet me. Being alone in this room made me realize that I never got the chance to actually look around. He had an arcade game in the corner that looked untouched and a bowling ball with his face on it. I remembered Chica's story, and she mentioned a place called Bonnie's Bowling Alley. I wondered if I'd ever see it.

I couldn't just sit here waiting for something to happen. I walked out of Freddy's room and out to the hallway. I took a look around. I also never got the chance to look around here either. I've always been either through the back rooms or rushing to Freddy's room without any chance to check out the hallway.

It wasn't really fair to call it a hallway, as it's much bigger than the other ones in the building. It was a long, oblong room with display cases with items inside. Such items included old props and toys. The items were all labeled with a brief description of them. For example, there was Freddy's microphone, and supposedly was the original Freddy Fazbear's microphone prop used back in the 80's. I didn't really believe any of these items were authentic, but it was fun to look at, especially since this franchise has indeed been around for that long. It could be a look into the past of the company.

I decided I'd look around more later and find either Freddy or Roxy. Last night, Freddy said he was going to be in parts and service again . I felt a twinge of annoyance when I realized that he was likely already gone. He could've had the decency to tell me.

I walked up to the Roxy's door. Her room was right next to Freddy's, so I didn't have to worry about being caught by any other animatronic. I tried to open it, but it was locked. I knocked to try and grab anyone's attention inside, but still nothing. Confused, I tried to peek through the giant window to see if anyone was in there.

Roxy was indeed there, but she was facing her mirror. I can't believe she didn't hear me knock! I tried knocking on the glass, but still nothing. I groaned, wondering what I was going to do.

When I got inside Chica's room, I climbed through the vents. All four of the animatronics' rooms are connected through that vent. Maybe I could try to get inside that way.

I ran back to Freddy's room and into the storage unit behind it. I climbed up into the vent through the boxes and crawled through. The path was shorter than Chica's, which made sense since Roxy's room is the closest to Freddy's. I made it to her room and I was about to push off the grate when I heard something from inside.

It sounded like breathing, but the only person inside was Roxy. The animatronics breathe? Or simulate breathing? Why? I wasn't going to get an answer of course, but that wasn't the only thing Roxy was doing. She was holding what looked like a photo album. With a heavy sigh, she sat down alongside her vanity, letting her back rest upon it. She flipped through the pages, but with the grate covering my view, I couldn't see the photos. She made sounds while browsing through, things like small chuckles or little gasps.

She looked like she needed this moment of reflection, and I was going to wait until she was finished to enter her room when the sound of the spider animatronic crawling through the vents appeared. I didn't want to let that thing catch me, so I quickly unscrewed the vent. I fell out and crashed to the floor with a thud. "Ow," I complained as I tried to pick myself up.

"Gregory! What are you doing?" Roxy yelled. She closed the album and helped me up.

"I tried knocking but you didn't answer– ow!" I explained. My head was reeling from that fall. I don't know how many more head injuries I could take. I held my hands on my temples in an attempt to make the spinning stop.

She picked me up and placed me in her chair. It was identical to Freddy's, but her's was purple instead of orange. "Freddy was supposed to bring you over," she said. She examined my head looking for injuries.

"He was gone when I woke up. What were you looking at?" I said, curious about her photo album.

Roxy sighed. "It's a scrapbook. Chica gave it to me for my one year anniversary here at the pizzaplex," she said.

Roxy and Chica must be super close. I remembered that they had "girls' nights" that seemed to be a regular occurrence. Now I've learned that Chica gives presents to Roxy, or at least has given a present. My stomach churned as I thought about what I did to Chica. I wasn't sure if Roxy had forgiven me or was just relying on me to fulfill my promise of fixing her.

"Can I see?" I asked. I was curious what was inside, but I didn't want to push it if she didn't want to show me.

"Briefly. I'm going to get you some ice, so stay put," Roxy said. She handed me the scrapbook and walked out through the door.

The cover was Chica's signature bright pink color. There was sparkly purple lettering that read "Roxanne's 1st Year!" and it was covered in stickers. The album itself was clearly a piece of merchandise from inside the pizzaplex, and the stickers ranged from stickers of the animatronics to stars and smiley faces.

Inside were tons of polaroids glued to the pages. The first few pages were images of the whole animatronic gang. Roxy was awkwardly posed next to Chica, who wrapped her arm around her shoulder and gave a peace sign. She clearly was new to the place and was meeting them for the first time. Freddy was there, too, and he stood behind them with Monty and...

These group photos had a purple bunny in them. He had a bowtie similar to Freddy's and wore a red bowling shirt, though he didn't wear it in all of the photos. His eyelid was painted with a bright gold star and outlined in red. His color palette was essentially the reverse of Freddy's. I think this must be the first time I ever actually saw what Bonnie looked like. I had been hearing about him ever since I came to the pizzaplex, but I'd never actually seen him.

The first photo was signed "First day out of the box! Xoxo" in a blue glitter pen. The first few photos were clearly posed, and Roxy looked like she felt out of place in them, but as the album continued, she gradually got more comfortable around her new friends, and eventually developed her tough girl persona.

Some of the photos consisted of the gang together, but a few of them were individual photos of Roxy or her with someone. One of them was what looked like Chica teaching Roxy the guitar. Another was Roxy with Bonnie celebrating a victory at the bowling alley. There were photos of Roxy performing on stage, including one that was labeled "Our First Performance!" with a heart sticker on it.

Continuing through the album was more than just the animatronics hanging out. There were photos of Roxy with kids with Roxanne merchandise. "Roxy's First Fan!" was written on one of them, while the others had sweet messages like "Roxy's #1 Fan!" and "Look at you shine!"

It was nice seeing Roxy smiling alongside her fans and friends. The whole time I've been here, it's felt like the animatronics have turned their backs on each other. Really, the only animatronic I haven't seen anyone be mad at is Chica and Bonnie. It wouldn't surprise me if the two of them were the group's glue that stuck them together.

And I broke one of them. Whatever happened to Bonnie was a tragedy that Freddy and Chica held dearly, but I caused Chica's downfall, or at least I'm the one who broke her. Every time I saw an image of her, I was just reminded of the state she was in. She looked so happy alongside Roxy.

The last polaroid in the photo album was a picture of Chica and Roxy together. Roxy was now completely comfortable around the gang, and Chica was happier than ever. The image itself looked like a selfie that Chica took of the two of them, and it was signed "I love you!" at the bottom.

It was a bittersweet present from Chica. It's a nice place to look back at memories, but they're just sad now. With Bonnie dead, Freddy in fear of being replaced, and Chica being broken, it was hard to feel only nostalgic while looking through.

The door opened and Roxy walked through. In her hand was an ice pack, and she gently placed it against my forehead. "Does it help at all?" Roxy asked. I nodded. She brought my hand up to the ice pack and left me to keep it still.

She took the scrapbook from my hands and closed it. She opened one of the drawers in her vanity and placed it inside.

"It was nice. The scrapbook, I mean," I told her. She chuckled.

"Yeah, it is," she said.

"Chica gave it to you as an anniversary present?" I asked. I wanted to hear more about their connection.

"Yeah," she answered. "I'm the newest animatronic here," she explained. "And it was weird being brought here. The others had already been there for who knows how long, but they welcomed me with open arms. Even if I was..." she trailed off.

"You're what?"

"I was a replacement," she said. "Ever heard of Foxy?"

I actually had heard of Foxy. He was a pirate fox that was eventually retired for unknown reasons, but he's still mentioned when people think of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. There was practically no memorabilia of him, aside from a few posters and cardboard cutouts throughout the plaza.

"He wasn't making enough money in his little Pirate's Cove," Roxy said. "Pirates were outdated, and it was time for 'something new, something sexier!' Their words, not mine." She sounded annoyed at that slogan.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Oh, right, you don't know what that word means," she said.

"No, I know what it means! I'm twelve!" I shouted at her. She laughed.

"Okay, pup. They wanted to bring in something to attract adults as much as kids, and, well, sex sells." She gave an exhausted sigh and looked down at the floor.

"I think Chica knew how much I hated it," she continued. "That's why none of those photos had adults in them." I remembered the pictures of Roxy with her fans. They were all kids around my age or younger, and Roxy looked ecstatic to take a picture with them.

"We should take a picture together," I said. She laughed and her tail wagged. "Yeah, we should," she agreed. "But for now, we've got a couple things to do."

She helped me out of the chair. "Like what?" I asked.

"Well, for one, you smell," Roxy said, lightly hitting me with her elbow.

"Hey! Uncalled for," I said.

"I'm taking you down to the showers. Then we'll have breakfast," she said. I groaned, but I'll admit that it'd be nice to clean up a bit, especially since my old bandages made me feel gross.

We walked down to the basement together. The showers were right next to the laundry room. Roxy gave me a towel and let me be while I washed up. Once I was done, she helped me reapply my bandages, and we went back upstairs.

Roxy opted to eat at the diner near the building's entrance. According to her, the food tasted better there, and there were more options. There was a S.T.A.F.F. bot roaming around inside, so Roxy picked it up with ease and tossed it at the wall. It fell over and shut down. We walked into the kitchen behind the diner's wall and got ready to make breakfast.

"What do you want?" she asked. "Hmm," I thought for a moment. "How about pancakes?"

"Good choice," she said. Together, we mixed the pre-made pancake batter with water. She turned on the stove and brought out the pan, and she poured the batter into the pan into multiple pancakes. After some sizzling, she flipped them.

"Can I flip one?" I asked. She shrugged and handed me the spatula. I tried to flick one into the air, but I used too much force and it hit the ceiling. It hung off the ceiling, slowly peeling off.

"Oops," I said. Roxy laughed. "I'll get it." She took the spatula from me and while stepping on the countertop, scraped the pancake off from the ceiling. She caught it in her hand and tossed it into the pan.

Once the pancakes were done, she placed them on a plate and set it on the counter in the diner. I sat on one of the red swivel chairs and started eating. She gave me a glass of water and watched from the other side of the counter.

"How are they?" she asked. My mouth was already stuffed, so I gave her a thumbs up to indicate that they were good. "Okay, good. I'm not much of a cook," she admitted.

I kicked my feet as I cut into my pancakes. "Are you not going to have any?" I asked Roxy.

"I can't eat," she said.

"Oh." Chica and I ate pizza together, but I supposed only Chica was built with that mechanic.

"So, what do you wanna do?" she asked.

"Do you remember the VHS tape we found yesterday?"

"Oh! Yeah, I do. Wanna watch it?"

I nodded.

"Okay, but before we do, you gotta catch me up to date on them. You said you've watched how many?" she said.

"Just two," I replied, "and one was just Sun's prototype video."

"What was the other?"

"Uhm, well, it was like a video diary," I said. "It was the same guy who designed Sun, but it was kinda weird."

She sat down across from me. "I'm listening."

"He was talking about inheriting Fazbear Entertainment from his dad. He called him evil quite a few times..." I tried to picture the video in my head, but so much has happened since I watched it. "He said he was going to visit one of the locations to study their designs."

"Wow, you're finding tapes of the CEO? That's pretty cool," she said.

"Heh, yeah," I said. I wondered what this next tape would be like. Maybe I should start trying to put them in chronological order.

Once I'd finished eating, we washed the dishes and made our way down to the security office, picking up the VHS tape from Roxy's room on the way. I told Roxy that the office was the only place that I knew of that had a VCR. Once again, I was back in the office with the battery powered doors, but this time I was with a friend, just like how I'd seen the first one. I powered on the monitor and slid the cassette inside.

After a couple seconds of static, the video started just like the others did. The man's face was close to the camera as he was adjusting it, and once it was still he walked back. With him was–

"Chica!" Roxy yelled. "Wow, he must've designed her too," I said. If he made Sun, Moon, and Chica, just how many more did he also make?

The man sat down across from Chica. Between them was a table with a platter of treats on it. "So, Chica, I wanna test your tastebuds," he said, holding a clipboard and a pen.

"Oh, wonderful!" she said, clapping her hands together.

The man faced the camera and talked directly to the audience. "Chica here has a unique quirk. She's built with sensors that allow her to simulate taste similar to an adolescent. No need to worry about possible lawsuits for child labor when testing new foods, haha!" he laughed gleefully. That was supposed to be a joke, but I get the feeling that was an actual worry the company had.

He picked up a cupcake from the platter and handed it to her. "Here, my wife made these," he said. Chica grabbed it from him and stuffed it into her beak, wrapper and all. He quickly wrote on his notepad, probably writing notes about how she kept the wrapper on.

"How is it?" he asked her when she finished. Chica beamed. "Delicious!"

The man looked at the camera again. "It's true, my wife's cooking is indeed delicious." He seemed a lot more comfortable being on camera compared to the other two tapes. I wondered if this was the last one to happen in terms of a timeline.

Next, he gave her a slice of vanilla cake. It had tons of blue icing on it, and I'll admit I wanted a piece of it too. "Try this cake," he said. Chica took the plate and smashed it into her head, sloppily eating the cake. He flinched at her reaction, and quickly wrote down more notes on the clipboard.

"There's still a few kinks to work out," he admitted, laughing off Chica almost breaking the plate on impact, "but the taste buds themselves are working great!"

I heard a door open from the video, and both Chica and the man turned to see. "Oh, hey, buddy," the man said. He got up and walked out of frame to whomever just walked in. "Daddy's busy, I'll be out in a minute."

"Hi, Chica!" a young child's voice played. They couldn't have been much older than four. Chica waved excitedly at them. "You said we'd play today," the kid said.

"Just a few more minutes. Oh, for me?" he said. His kid must've given him something. "Buh-bye!" they yelled, and the door slammed shut. I heard him chuckle.

He walked back into frame with a paper in his hand. "What did he give you?" Chica asked. The man laughed, "It's an alligator! Haha, what?" He kept laughing as he examined the drawing on the lined paper. He turned it over so Chica could see, and then he showed it to the camera. It looked like a crude drawing of Monty, without any of his accessories.

Roxy gasped. "Do you think he made Monty too?"

"At this point, I'm thinking he made all of you," I said. I looked back at the monitor.

"Damn, now I can't use this take," he said, putting the drawing into his back pocket.

"Fine by me," Chica said, "I get to eat more cupcakes then."

"Of course you're excited," he said, rolling his eyes. He walked up towards the camera and started messing with it. "Hey, they're good cup–"

Chica didn't get to finish her sentence. The video ended there. He must've cut her off when he turned off the camera.

"That one was really cute, compared to the other one," I said. The second tape left me with a feeling of dread. He sounded as if he was in so much emotional pain, but here, when he's interacting with his creations, he's so full of hopeful energy. And now he has a son?

"Yeah, that was really nice," Roxy said. She sighed, lost in thought. She was probably thinking about Chica, and I wouldn't blame her. I'm also curious. Does she remember this? I never got to tell her about the tapes before she turned, so I wouldn't know. Sun didn't seem to remember, and Roxy said she thinks no one remembers their creators, so it's most likely she wouldn't. I just wished she had the chance to see it before.

"Do you think there's a video on you?" I asked. "I'm not sure, but since you're finding these around, who knows?" she replied.

I took the VHS tape out of the player. "What do you wanna do now?" I asked her. Her ears perked when she came up with an idea.

"Do you like go-karting?"
