《Father Laff AU (Socksfor1) Volume 1》The Trial Part Four

Sitting at the prosecuting stand, Syce sat confidently with his brief case as behind him in the stands sat Wictoria. She looked distressed as she pleaded with him for what felt like the hundredth time. "Syce, please don't make a big deal out of this." She whispered; "Nadwe is just a baby, he doesn't deserve this."
Syce scoffed, "A baby Dhampir, Wictoria. IT could grow up and slaughter us all."
Wictoria sighed "Syce, please-"
"Just so you know; if the entire team becomes incarcerated, I'm bringing you down with me."
That made Wictoria grow pale "W-What-!? Y-You can't-!-"
The doors opened as Laff, Shroobz and a female lawyer walked in. Nadwe was holding onto Shroobz's side as the older gentleman held him close in a protective grip.
Syce looked over and smirked, "There you are, I was just thinking I fucking scared you off." Laff rolled his eyes and sat down with his lawyer in the defense stand "Like hell I'm letting you take my son." Shroobz sat in the stands with Nadwe in his arms "Syce, where even is YOUR lawyer?"
Syce laughed "I'm so confident in this case; I'm representing myself!"
Shroobz sighed and shook his head, muttering "dumbass" quietly under his breath.
Laff glared at him, "I'm gonna convince the court to allow Nadwe to live." Syce laughed and glared back at him "How cute, you actually believe you're gonna win this trial. No wonder Shroobz has a fucking crush on you." Laff was quick to reply back with venom laced in his voice "You shut your trap and leave Shroobz out of this."
Wictoria gulped nervously as the judge sat in the main chair.
"Court is now in session, so please be quiet. Is the prosecution ready?"
Syce nodded, sitting up with confidence "Ready, your honor."
"Is the defense ready?"
Laff nodded and sat up straighter "Ready your honor."
"Then the trial for Syce Istabul can now begin.-"
"Uh, your honor?" Laff's lawyer spoke up as she stood out of her chair "A reminder that this trial is also for the safety of Laff's son as well." The judge huffed softly and looked at her "What's your name miss?"
"Meggy Speltzer, your honor."
"I was just getting to that fact Ms.Speltzer if you just waited a few more seconds." Meggy flinched softly and sat back down in her chair, glancing down sheepishly as the judge continued. "This trial is also for the decision of the fate of Nadwe Gas, who is alleged to be a supernatural creature of sorts." He looked towards SYce "Mr.Istabul, your opening statement?"
Syce smiled and stood up "Thank you, your honor." He straightened his jacket as he started walking around slowly. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury and stands; you all probably know my name by now; but I am Syce Istabul. I am the representative for 'Holy-Service' and I have been wrongfully convicted for trying to make this world a better place."

He turned around and walked to the jury stands.
"And for WHAT reason I was convicted for you to ask? Well, APPARENTLY I was arrested for trying to 'exterminate' the first Dhampir in 50 years. In layman's terms; a half human and half VAMPIRE."
The jury and crowd gasped as Laff glanced around. Syce smirked softly at the reaction and turned around again, walking to the other side of the jury stands. "And where is the dhampir now you may ask? Well...It's right THERE!" Syce pointed at Shroobz and Nadwe as the people sitting around them quickly backed away. Shroobz looked around and scoffed "C'mon guys..."
Meggy quickly got up "Hey Objection! He's using the fear factor to strengthen his case! It's not a fair trial!"
"Agreed, Mr.Istabul stop instilling fear into the jury."
Syce looked at the judge and cocked his head to the side in a curious head tilt manner "But your honor, I'm not trying to instill fear. I'm just stating the fact that I was convicted for trying to make this world a better place." He gestured to the stands of civilians "To make a better world for the town and home I love oh so much..." He shrugged and tilted his head the other way "Sure; it's a child NOW, but what do children do? GROW UP. And Dhampir's tend to grow up pretty fast. It could be one unfortunate day where it'll go around and kill whomever it pleases; leaving no one in its wake. For all we know is that it could be in a year's time that comes to pass, but since it's half vampire it could be months; or hell even tomorrow it could go on a rampage! Baring its fangs and sharp claws; slaughtering and drinking the blood of every man, woman and child in the world!-"
"Mr.Istabul, that's enough! Take your seat, now."
Syce turned his head straight up and glanced around subtely at the jury and the stands of civilians. They all had the unmistakable aura of fear and doubt as he smirked slyly to himself. He bowed and fixed the halo on his head "I rest my case, your honor." He walked back to his stand and sat down as Laff looked around the courtroom. The entire court was whispering and looking at Nadwe.
Nadwe felt really uncomfortable and hid in Shroobz's arms, fussing softly as Shroobz held him close to his chest.
"Mr.Gas?" Laff was brought out of his trance and looked over at the judge who was looking at him "Your rebuttal?"
Meggy looked at Laff and smiled "Don't worry, I got this." She whispered before she got up "Thank you, your honor." She started walking around "Ladies and Gentlemen of the court, I'm here to tell you that these allegations directed to my client's son are nothing more than pure fiction and that you should allow his son to live a normal life."

Syce scoffed and rolled his eyes with a smug grin "Yeah like that'll happen."
Meggy glared at Syce for a few seconds before looking back at the jury. "Let me ask a simple question; When WAS the last vampire sighting?" The jury didn't answer as Meggy nodded. "See? There has been no vampire sighting anyone in the courtroom knows of. It's all pure fiction."
Syce stood up "Objection, she's fucking wrong!"
"Overruled Mr.Istabul, sit down."
Syce huffed and sat back down, crossing his arms.
Meggy faced the general court "If there is no sighting of vampires, how could any of us be sure that Laff's son is one?" The people of the court turned and looked at each other as Meggy walked back to the jury stands, walking to one of the few women in the front row of the stands.
"You look like a mother, yes miss?"
The woman nodded and looked at Meggy as she answered "Yes, I have two sons Ma'am." Meggy gestured to Nadwe and Shroobz as she didn't look away from the woman "So could you tell if there is anything wrong with Laff's son?"
The woman looked over at Shroobz and Nadwe. Nadwe was curled up in Shroobz's arms, looking like he was asleep in an effort to stop people from looking at him. After a few moments, the woman turned back to Meggy and answered; "He seems like a normal 3 month old to me."
Meggy nodded and looked over at SHroobz and Nadwe, "That's because he is a 3 month old miss. And if Shroobz can demonstrate that fact; then it proves my point."
Shroobz got up, carrying Nadwe in his arms as he walked to the center of the courtroom. Nudging Nadwe gently, the smaller looked up at Shroobz as he glanced back down at him "okay little man, show time." he whispered as he sat Nadwe down on the floor.
Shroobz quickly took his hands away from supporting Nadwe sitting up as Nadwe quickly fell back on his back, letting out a tiny yelp as the court gasped.
Meggy gestured over at Nadwe and Shroobz as Shroobz quickly picked Nadwe back up "A 3 month old cannot support themself sitting up!" Shroobz held Nadwe close to his chest and glanced down at him "Good job little man." He whispered. Meggy smiled and lowered her hand, confidence beaming from her "I rest my case your honor." She walked back over to the defense stand and sat down.
"The court has heard both sides, the jury will deliberate for the next hour and return with a verdict."
The jury got up and filed out of the courtroom as Laff fidgeted with his hands, glancing down. He couldn't help but feel the gnawing feeling of dread eat at him, like that this trial was gonna be found in favor of Syce and that he is going to lose Nadwe yet again. He was quickly brought out of these thoughts when he saw Shroobz walk over with Nadwe in his arms. Taking in a small breath; Laff looked at Shroobz in the eye and asked quietly "N-Now what...?" Shroobz looked back at him with as much uncertainty as he had, shifting Nadwe to one of his arms as he answered.
"We pray."
Shroobz pulled Laff close with his other arm and held both him and Nadwe tightly. Laff clung to Shroobz just as tightly with Nadwe gripping onto Laff's arm, whimpering quietly at what might end up happening.
Syce simply smirked and leaned back.

The jury started filing back into the courtroom as Laff held Nadwe close to his chest in a tight, protective grip.
"...Nadwe." Laff whispered as he glanced down at him "No matter what happens...just know that I will always love and cherish you, my son."
Nadwe whimpered and clung to Laff's chest, shaking in sheer fear as the last juror sat down.
"Has the jury reached a verdict?"
The foreman nodded and stood up "We have your honor." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper, opening it up "We the jury file in favor of..."
Laff closed his eyes and held his breath, his hold on Nadwe tightening even more.
Syce leaned back with his arms behind his head, really relaxed and chill about this.
Nadwe peeked out from Laff's chest, keeping his tight grip on his shirt.
"...The defendant."
Syce quickly sat up, his eyes wide "WHAT!?!"
Laff let go of the breath he was holding and relaxed, still holding Nadwe close "Oh fucking thank god..."
Syce growled and stood up "You're really gonna let the monster live?!" The foreman looked at Syce "The majority of us noticed you put a lot emphasis on the child being half vampire and half human. Be that as it may; Nadwe is still human, and deserves a chance to live as one." Syce clenched his fist "But he's still a monster!"
"The jury has made their decision Mr.Istabul. As a result, you are found guilty of attemopted murder and kidnapping. Bailiff, escort Mr.Istabul to the booking room."
The bailiff came over and grabbed Syce's arm, leading him to the exit door of the courtroom as Syce glared at Laff, Shroobz, Nadwe and Wictoria. Specifically at Wictoria; with a look that read "I'm coming for you" as he was escorted out of the courtroom. Laff didn't notice as he was holding Nadwe close to his chest; Wictoria however did notice and shifted a bit to hide behind Shroobz as she watched Syce leave the room.
Laff kept Nadwe close, taking in small slow breaths as he rubbed Nadwe's back gently.
"Thank fucking god..."
(Sorry I can't do court scenes well lol)
