《Finding Emma》Chapter 11
Advertisement
It's been a couple days here; torturous. Emma and I haven't really gotten much to eat, so we're both pretty hungry. But I would rather feed her than myself in a heartbeat.
-
-
"Emma," I whisper, noticing that she is standing beside me, tears streaming down her face. She had taken a nap a little while ago, and she woke up sad again. I scoop her up and set her in my lap. I kiss her on the forehead and she calms down a little.
-
-
Her stomach growls and she points to it, looking down. She looks back up at me miserably, her eyes red.
-
-
"You're hungry," I whisper, picking her up, shifting her onto my hip and walking to the door.
-
-
"Hey!" I yell out to the guards. They look back at me, not moving their bodies.
-
-
"She's hungry," I yell, shifting the little girl on my hip. "Give her something to eat!" They just look at me as if I'm not speaking at all, and then turn back around.
-
-
Emma lets out another whimper, and I press her close to my shoulder. "I know," I whisper into her ear. "I'm hungry too."
-
-
"Someone's HUNGRY?" Edgar asks, gliding up towards the door. "Well, looks like we're going to have to feed them," he smirks.
-
-
I scowl at him. "And she needs a new diaper, too," I say. "But don't you even think about taking her out of here without allowing me to come with, too. I won't let you hurt her."
-
-
Edgar opens the door, the guards immediately blocking it behind him so I can't escape. "Hm," he says, crossing his arms and walking up closely to Emma. "Hello there, little girl," he says with a grin.
-
-
She looks up at him warily and he picks her right up out of my arms. "Hey-" I start, but Edgar has already taken her out of the room.

-
"We'll get you some foodies and a new diaper too," Edgar says to her, in a mock tone. I scowl. Emma whimpers, and he takes her into the next room.
-
-
I listen intently near the door, and I don't hear any howling. He comes back ten minutes later, Emma looking a little happier as she holds onto a piece of bread. She looks at me and reaches her arms out.
-
-
Edgar is about to bring her towards the door, but then he stops mid-walk. "Oh, wait," he says. "I forgot to do something."
-
-
He drops her on the ground right then, and she falls flat onto the concrete. She screams.
-
-
I bang on the glass as hard as I can, but I cannot break it. "Now, don't you be rowdy," Edgar says over my yelling.
-
-
"Give her back!" I yell, as Emma lies desolate on the ground. I see that her lip is cracked and is bleeding. Edgar laughs, yanks Emma up by the arm, opens the door and throws her into the room. I catch her just in time.
-
-
She sobs into my shoulder, and I rub her back. The poor girl was starving, and now she's wounded....
-
-
"That'll teach her a lesson not to whine," Edgar sneers, walking away.
-
-
"Emma," I whisper angrily, pulling her back. "I am so sorry."
-
-
I check her for wounds. She has a split lip, and her elbows are scraped. Other than that, she seems to be okay. I wipe the tears from her eyes and rock her in my lap.
-
-
"Do you want to nap now?" I ask her, combing my hand through her tiny wisps of hair. She sighs and closes her eyes, me kissing the top of her head.
-
-
A couple minutes later, I hear them. Gunshots. I hear distant yelling in the hallway. Somebody's here.

-
I wonder if it's Tris. Maybe she finally learned who David truly was. Maybe she actually does care about Emma and I. Who knows.
-
-
I know it's unhealthy to get my hopes up.
-
-
"Emma," I whisper to the little one sleeping in my lap. She opens her eyes slowly and looks up at me. "I need you to hold onto me, okay?"
-
-
"Dada," she says quietly, gripping onto my shoulder. I stand up, whisking her on my hip, and pull out the black band that I had took from Edgar a day ago when he decided to torture me. He may be a fighter, but he's definitely not Erudite- he didn't even notice that his factionless band was missing.
-
-
I unlock the door with the black band and the guards turn around. But they aren't quick enough- I kick both of them to the ground, stomping on them until they black out. Emma looks around warily, and I rub her back. She nestles her head closely into my shoulder.
-
-
Then I see her running down the hallway. Her shoulder-length hair, her determined stature. I see her running towards us, worried. I see Tris.
-
-
She runs straight up to me and kisses me full on the mouth. I kiss her back, harder; I needed this. I can't believe she's actually here. She DOES care about me. Us.
-
-
"Tobias," she whispers, putting her hand onto my shoulder. "I'm so sorry. I can't believe I trusted him over you."
-
-
"Took you a couple days," I huff, as Emma lifts her head up and looks at Tris.
-
-
"They weren't just going to drug Emma. They're planning on giving the memory serum to the whole city," Tris explains. "They wanted to use it on everybody. They wanted to bring the faction system back. I couldn't let that happen. I especially couldn't let you forget about me. I came back here because you were right, and.. We need to stop the memory serum."
-
-
"Let's go," I huff. "I know where Evelyn's desk is."
-
-
Once we're there, I bang on the door. "EVELYN!" I yell. "OPEN! IT'S AN EMERGENCY!"
-
-
She walks up to the glass door and looks at us, eyebrows raised in surprise. "Tobias?" She asks. "You came back. But I don't know if I can trust you, now. I'm not sure." She spies Emma on my shoulder and frowns.
-
-
"Mrs. Johnson, Evelyn, Tobias' mom," Tris huffs. "Outside the wall is dangerous. Peter is coming to release memory serum. You have to help, now-"
-
-
"How should I know whether to believe you?" Evelyn asks, crossing her arms and staring at Tris.
-
-
I clear my throat. "Mom," I say. Evelyn's eyes go wide as she registers the fact that I've called her mom: the first time in almost 15 years. "We went across the wall. There's a place called the Bureau. They want to instill the faction system back into the city again. You need to trust me. I came back to warn you; I couldn't stay there. They were going to drug this little girl," I explain, rubbing Emma's back as she stares at Evelyn. "You don't understand. You need to."
-
-
She just looks at me. "Tobias..." she says.
-
-
"Please," I say. "Mom."
-
-
She stares at me for a minute, but then decides to open the door. Tris and I walk in.
-
-
"We need to stop Peter the second he gets here," I explain to Evelyn. "He's going to try to manipulate you. You can't listen to him. It's going to damage the city."
-
-
"God knows I don't want the faction system instilled in this place again," Evelyn says. "When he comes in here, I'll shoot him."
-
-
"Too late," says a voice, right behind Tris. She freezes, her eyes wide. I see a gun pointed to her head, Peter's hand gripping it tightly.
-
-
I hear a bang.

The Summoned - Complete
In a world of magic, ruled by many warring races, the human kingdoms are being pushed to the brink of collapse. In a desperate bid to gain the strength to stand on an equal footing with the other nations, they perform a forbidden ritual to summon combat slaves from another dimension. Unluckily for them, Mors Letus, recently named by their world's God of Death, was one of them. **** Warning **** This is a re-release (The Summoned) of the first book I wrote in partnership with my brother (who later forced the story to be pulled (It was released on his account here)). I have started writing my own version of the story (BOM: The Summoned) and will continue to primarily invest in that, though, now I have permission to re-release this one, I plan finish this as I have the drafts and it was close to the end of the first book. Many characters/scenes and events match/Will match BOM: The Summoned, especially in future arc's (Past Flatner forest). If you don't like spoilers, don't want to get confused between the two stories or hate first attempts at writing (god awful grammar/sentence structure and storytelling), I would advise against reading.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.

Shattered Realms - A Pathfinder/D&D game
Broke adventurers looking for a quick and easy paycheck are thrust together as circumstances around them get weirder and weirder. Authors note: This is an ongoing Pathfinder (DnD) game, which will inevitably contain references to other works due to the nature of nerds. Chapters will be random lengths, mostly as long as a game session and depending on how much I can embelish it. Also, some details may change retroactively to maintain consistency. I'm not going to write it as LitRPG, mostly because that's extra work. I'd rather the flow of the story not be interrupted by numbers. I am aiming for updates within a week or two of the game session, which will usually be weekly. Finally, there is a light swearing, gore and sexual references warning. I will update this warning if needed, but will also not write in anything that's too graphic or irrelevant to the story.
