《Hate Me Now, Love Me Later》Chapter 25

Lisa is sure – believes that she’s sure – that it was dismay and shock painted on Jennie’s face when the groupings for the next team game is finalized.

Lisa is teamed with Sehun and Jennie’s other cousins while Jennie is in the other group.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Lisa hears Jennie says right after.

“Tough luck, Deukie.” Sehun grins as he puts a bent arm over Jennie’s head.

“Don’t touch me.” Jennie quickly jerks away from him.

“Hey, just trying to be sympathetic.” He jests, so he gets a hard punch on the arm.

Lisa witnesses, once again, the harsh exchange of words and pulled punches between the two cousins.

Lisa really doesn’t know what to feel anymore.

When Sehun advances towards her. When she remembers what Jennie says about him. When she doesn’t know what to believe because Sehun can be a decent guy if he tries.

Lisa really doesn’t know her feelings anymore.

When Jennie pushes her away in a moment. When Jennie quickly pulls her back whenever Sehun's around. When Jennie holds her hand both in secret and in public for her relatives to see. When Jennie physically hurts her, but at the same time acts all concerned and worried for her. When Jennie sends her mixed signals of love-and-hate at the same time.

Lisa gets more perplexed when she can’t understand why Jennie seems so disappointed with the groupings.

Is it because Lisa is with Sehun and Jennie is not? Is it because she is not with Lisa?

Lisa’s heart starts to beat with the simple thought of the second one.

So what, it’s just one stupid little game.

But then the game is announced and Lisa at long last realizes why Jennie seems – or what Lisa would like to fool herself with – disheartened.

It was a modified game of ‘Catch the Dragon’s Tail’. Where two teams of same number of players will be led by the ‘Dragon’s Head’ and the said ‘Head’ will need to catch the opponent’s ‘Tail’.

All team members need to hold on to the player in front of them so as not to break their ‘Dragon’. Team whose ‘Tail’ was caught, or ‘Dragon’ was broken, will be deemed as losers.

Maybe it was the previous instruction that made Lisa think of Jennie’s dissatisfaction of the groupings.

Because Jennie was chosen to be the ‘Dragon’s Head’ for their team, and Lisa was again bullied to be their team’s ‘Head’.

With Sehun shortly behind her, his hands gripping firmly on her waist.

“Sorry.” She once again hears Sehun says.

“It’s okay,” She assures Sehun, “Part of the game, right?”

Lisa was ready to have fun until she sees Jennie not returning the same enthusiastic glisten on Lisa’s eyes.

For Jennie’s eyes trail down to the hands currently wrapped around Lisa's waist.

Even all the water in the pool can’t cover those hands, so Lisa only gulps when Jennie brings her eyes to stare at the blonde’s.

Lisa wants to at least say a ‘Hi’ but then Jennie’s cousins sends the ‘Go’ signal, and even before Lisa could ready herself, Jennie was already plunging towards them – towards her.

Laughter and screams are already filling the surrounding when Lisa realizes that it was not her group’s ‘Tail’ that Jennie is aiming for, it washer – Lisa.

“Jennie!” Lisa prevents Jennie from getting closer to her members by meeting Jennie’s clawed fingers with her own.

“Damn it, monkey!” Jennie hisses, which only made Lisa laugh along with everyone else.

“You stupid, stupid monkey!” Jennie continues to growl the words as she claws at the water, hoping to grab any of Lisa’s teammate.

“Lisa, grab their ‘Tail’!” Sehun says as he evades Jennie’s hand.

Lisa tries to do what she’s told, she moves forward hastily as she tries to snatch the other team’s ‘Tail’.

The sudden movement made all her member fasten their hold on to the one they’re holding, including Sehun.

“Hold on tight, Sehun.” Lisa says as she’s afraid that her attempt to push forward might send their team splitting. Sehun, without second thoughts, obliges.

Lisa feels his hands fully wrap their selves around her waist.

Soaked bodies pressed on each other through drenched shirts. Lisa was so lost in the moment and in having fun that she actually doesn’t mind their closeness.

But Lisa thinks Jennie thinks otherwise.

For after a brief second – not even a second – Lisa hears Sehun yelp and feels his hand loosen their grip on her.

“Why?” Lisa asks.

“Jennie kicked me!” Sehun looks at Jennie.

“Sorry! My foot slipped!” Jennie shrugs before running to get the other team’s ‘Tail’.

Lisa discards the moment as she stops Jennie from going any further by grabbing the older girl. It was only when Jennie stops resisting that Lisa realizes the method she used to stop Jennie.

She was unintentionally hugging her.

For a split second, Lisa’s eyes manage to find Jennie’s.

“Th-,” Lisa likes to believe Jennie was blushing when the latter says, “This is cheating, Manoban.”

“I-I’m sorry.” Lisa lets go of Jennie, and after another split second of awkwardness, Jennie starts moving again.

“Watch out, Lisa!” It was Sehun’s voice that snaps Lisa out of her thoughts.

“Y-Yeah!” Lisa recomposes her control as she stops Jennie again by wrestling her hands with Jennie’s.

“You’ll never beat me, Manoban.” Jennie says with a smile.

Jennie’s strength was no joke, even with Lisa’s longer arms, “Oh really, Kim?”

Lisa continues to wrestle with Jennie when she feels the shorter girl playfully kicking in the water.

But then it was not her that Jennie was kicking, nor was it playful. Because then she hears Sehun yell in pain again.

“Jennie! Stop kicking my hands! That’s cheating!”

“It’s not my fault your hands are so low I’m able to kick them when I’m trying to kick the water!”

Lisa is too engrossed with the game she could care less if the two of them kill each other on sight, so Lisa takes advantage of the situation and she presses forward with vigour and speed Jennie could only powerfully kick again as response.

Kick Sehun again, that is. Sehun who also took advantage of Lisa’s actions by holding onto her a bit more tightly.

The kick made Sehun finally let go of his grip and break their ‘Dragon’.

“That’s cheating, Jennie!”

“It was an accident, you fool!”

“You did that on purpose!”

“I most certainly did not!”

“Alright, back up, back up. Back up, you two!” A relative older than the both of them breaks the two immature kids apart, “This is just a game! Stop acting like brats!”

“It’s her fault.” Sehun reasons, and Jennie sticks her tongue out.

“Quit it! The both of you! You’re embarrassing!” Their uncle says, which ultimately stops the bickering.

“Lisa, I’ll be the ‘Head’ this time. Is it alright?” Sehun pulls Lisa back, and Lisa sees Jennie twitch.

“S-Sure, no problem. Sorry.” Lisa stammers.

“Hold on to me tightly, okay?” Sehun himself binds both of Lisa’s hands around him.

And Lisa could only stare as she stumbles a rigid, “O-Okay.”

She comfortably wraps her arms around Sehun’s stomach as she thinks to herself how well-built it was.

She admits that it’s actually nice to hug someone taller than her for a change, but then the train of her thoughts are stopped.

Because just then, Lisa is sure – believes that she’s sure – she hears Jennie click her tongue.
