"I am so sorry for your loss, Senior was a very good man, he will be dearly missed." A woman said walking up to me.

"He wasn't shit but good looks" I replied with a head nod. The old lady gasped and walked away. Naala gripped my arm,

"Baby," She said lightly. I looked down at her and smiled. Since her episode she had been improving well, I've been watching her take her medication after she tried to fool me by keeping them under her tongue.

Our flight to Miami was leaving tomorrow and I couldn't wait. She needs this break more than anything.

"Did I lie though?" I asked looking around the church to spot my mom,

"Yeah but still baby, remember what we spoke about?" She said quietly holding onto my hand. Sinai walked beside her as I carried Saint.

"I'm being good!" I exclaimed walking to our seats.

"Let's just sit down, I've got the worst headache," Naala said rubbing her forehead,

"You good?" I asked standing still. She looked up and smiled weakly,

"I will be," She replied, "There's your mom," She said gesturing to where my mom sat. She was dressed in all black with big black sunglasses covering her entire face. Chanel sat beside her, boo-hooing.

She didn't even know the man, I chuckled to myself.

Naala led us over there and Sinai sat by my mom which made her smile softly.

"Sonia," Naala said with a tight lipped smile, "I can only imagine how you feel right now," She struggled to get out.

"Mmm," My mom replied turning her head in the opposite direction.

"Mama," I said sternly. I spoke to her about her attitude towards Naala before,

"Thank you," She replied with fake smile. Naala nodded and took a seat, taking Saint from my arms.

"Hey Lala," Chanel said through tears,

I guess I'm just invisible right?

Naala looked to the side and gave a confused look. Her and Chanel were not on good terms at all so that even shocked me.

"Hi," Naala said softly before sitting back. I put my hand on her thigh and squeezed it.

"I love you," I mumbled before kissing the side of her head.

Naala turned to me and leaned in but was stopped by Saint pushing my head back.

"Boy you came from my balls, quit trynna take my girl," I said moving his hand off my face.

"Amir," Naala gasped laughing. "We're in church," She said bouncing Saint up and down.

Saint was the definition of a Mama's boy, he wouldn't let me touch Naala without making a sound. I could barely even lie in the bed if he's there otherwise he would cry till Naala makes me leave.

Saint looked at me and babbled, with his hand in Naala's breasts. I mugged him back and moved his hands out of her top,

"I know you are not jealous of your son," Naala laughed quietly, switching Saint to the other arm,

"He's doing too much," I grumbled getting comfortable in my seat, "How long is this shit meant to be?"

"Oh my God Amir, stop it," Naala snapped, "This is your father's funeral."

"Oh really? I didn't know," I said sarcastically gaining a dirty look for Naala.

"Shut up and listen," She whispered as the pastor came out onto the podium

"We are gathered here today to lay David Brewster Sr. to rest. He was a very important part of our community," I scoffed and leaned back, he wasn't important to anyone, when I needed him the most, he died.

At first I was fucked up about his death but then I realised that if he put in the effort when I was younger then maybe our relationship would have been better.

I zoned out for the rest of the funeral. I ignored my mama's sorry ass speech and also anyone that tried to speak to me afterwards.

Now we were at the repast and I was ready to dip, all these people acting as if they cared about him was pissing me off.

"What do you want?" Naala asked holding a plate and balancing Saint in the other hand.

"Hand him here and I ain't hungry," I grumbled taking Saint from her arms. He wiggled and squirmed but I didn't care.

"You haven't eaten all day, so you need to have something," Naala replied walking off with the plate. Sinai ran over and sat next to me,

"Daddy?" She asked playing with Saint's feet,

"Hmm?" I replied looking down at her.

"Are you gonna die one day?" She asked seriously. Damn, why do kids be so nosy?

"Everyone is going to die baby," I said in the nicest way possible. I looked over to the food table and saw Naala laughing with an unknown man. I raised my eyebrows because who the fuck is that?

"Even mommy?" She asked with a bewildered look, shit the way she's laughing with that man she might be dying sooner than I thought.

"Everyone," I repeated, "But what matters is the effect you leave on people in the world you leave behind,"

Sinai scrunched up her face, I knew she didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Naala walked back over with two plates, she gave Sinai the smaller plate,

"Here you go Nai, be careful of your dress," She said softly before turning to me,

"You've got to eat something Papa," She smiled sitting the food on my lap and then sat beside me taking Saint back.

"What about you?" I asked before spooning some macaroni and cheese in my mouth.

"I'm not hungry," She replied quickly looking to the left. Naala is a very bad liar and any time she lies, she looks off to the left.

"Here," I said spooning some food and lifting it to her mouth, she hesitantly opened her mouth and let me feed her.

"I'm not a baby," She smiled rolling her eyes,

"But I bet you're gonna eat more," I smirked as she leaned in to take some chicken off my plate.

"Ew who the hell made this?" I said scrunching up my face at the taste of the wings,

"Your aunt Tonya," Naala replied giggling, "She can't cook for shit,"

"That was nasty man," I said reaching for Naala's soda,

"I didn't say you could have some," She whined, "Now I don't want it,"

"Naala my mouth has been all over you now you don't want to share drinks," I smirked taking another sip of the drink.

The old woman that sat by me was looking at us with a look of disgust. Naala chuckled under her breathe whilst I mugged the woman. Old women never know how to mind their business.

We ended up sharing the food and I got up to go and put the plate in the trash.

"Dave?" I heard my name being called from behind me. I turned around and set my eyes on Sevyn.

"Sev, what's up?" She was looking at me all sad and shit. She leaned in for a hug and didn't give me much of a choice but to hug her back.

"I'm sorry about your dad," She said rubbing my arms,

"It's aight, you didn't kill him," I said seriously. I never understand when people say sorry when a person dies, unless you killed them what are you apologising to me for?

"Can you ever be serious?" She laughed pushing my shoulder. I looked back over to where we were sitting and Naala was staring back at me, with Priest's girl also mugging me.

"You wanted something?" I asked stepping back, I didn't want no trouble,

"I was checking on you, you haven't been returning my calls," She replied pushing her chest out,

"My bad, I've been busy, I have got a 4 month old baby." I really wanted this conversation to end because I knew Naala would be here any second.

Ah hell, I said to myself as I saw Naala get up and Brianna follow behind her.

This has to be the longest funeral I've ever been to. To top it all off, Amir's family are the worst people to be around. I have been getting glares from Tonya and Sonia for the majority of the day, which didn't bother me that much. At this point, I might just have to beat somebody's ass so they have a real reason not to like me.

"Nai you can go over there Caiden but mind your dress," I said pointing to where Priest and Caiden stood.

"I will mommy," She replied running off, clearly not minding the dress.

Brianna saw me and came straight over, "Girl I've been looking for you," She exhaled taking Sinai's seat. I really liked Brianna, since we met we have been messaging back and forth, she really is a lovely person. When I told her about Miami, she convinced Priest to come as well so I had company when he and Dave were working. Turns out Priest was Dave's road manager, something I never knew.

"Hey girly," I smiled giving her a side hug. She hugged me back and then turned her attention to Saint,

"I can't get over your little chubby face," She cooed at him. I handed him over as he began to reach out to her, "I want another baby," She pouted playing with him,

"Why don't you and Priest try for another one?" I asked watching her interact with Saint.

"Girl I said I'm not popping out another baby till he walks me down an aisle,"

"Period," Naala chuckled, "I'm done with kids," I sighed. Saint was my last.

"Mmm, you got about 2 more left in you," Bri smirked, "I can see it now, 2 more little monsters,"

"Stop wishing that on me," I frowned, "You all packed for Miami?" I asked looking at her,

"I've been packed since you told me, I need a break from New York," She said bouncing Saint in her arms,

"Same, I am not going to be sober for that entire trip" I replied, at first I really didn't want to leave but now I feel like it's necessary.

"Oooo, I'ma remember you said that," Bri said, "Can't wait to hit the clubs," She groaned making me laugh,

"You think Priest is gonna let you?"

She waved me off, "He can't do shit, you should be worrying about Dave," She smiled,

"He lets me go out," I said defensively,

"Mmm, wasn't he just over here feeding you?" She smirked, "Yeah girl, you're not leaving that hotel room,"

I burst into laughter, "Trust and believe I'm leaving," I said. There was no way I was going all the way to a different city and not do some bald head hoe shit.

"This girl really doesn't know when to read the room," Brianna said under her breath looking to the food table,

"Who?" I asked, my blind ass couldn't see anyone.

"Six or whatever she calls herself," Bri replied nodding her head to where Dave and Sevyn were standing. I giggled,

"It's so funny to me that she is always at some type of family event," I didn't feel any way threatened by her because Amir knew not to play with me.

"She called herself trying to make a move on Priest," Brianna said mugging her, "I ought to slap the bitch,"

"Bri we are at a funeral," I said stifling a laugh,

"So? Who's gonna know?" She said taking off her rings and slipping them into her pocket.

"Bri," I said laughing, "Give me my son if you are about to go over there," I said reaching for Saint.

As soon as I picked him up, a nasty smell wafted my way. "Boy you did not just do that," I groaned as he smiled at me.

I really didn't want to go over to Dave but he had the car keys and now Saint needed a new diaper.

"That I do not miss," Bri laughed as I held Saint far way from me, "You about to go over there?" She asked as I stood up,

"I need the car keys," I said looking out for Sinai who was still playing with Caiden,

"I'm coming," Bri said standing up next to me. She pulled down her dress and smoothed down her hair, "Let's see what this bitch has to say,"

"Brianna," I said straight facing her making her turn to me, "Hit her one time for me," I smiled as we walked over.

"I got you," She replied walking by me.

Here we go,

"What's up baby?" Dave asked me as soon as we got up to them. He was trying to do some serious damage control,

"I need the keys, Saint needs a new diaper," I said staring at Sevyn who had a stupid ass smirk on her face.

"Let me take him," He said trying to reach for Saint,

Uhn uhn nigga, you gon' stay right there,

Brianna stepped forward and made her presence known to Sevyn.

"I heard you had a lot to say to my husband," She said mugging the hell out of Sevyn,

"Who's your husband?" Sevyn replied laughing,

"You know who the fuck he is," Brianna snapped loudly, making everyone look over.

Before I could even get the keys from Dave, Tonya flew over, I saw 'flew' because I didn't even see her legs move.

"Don't bring all that ghetto shit to my brother's funeral," Tonya said waving her hand in Bri's face.

"Bitch get out of my face," Brianna said back. Now everyone's attention was on us, Dave pulled me closer to him and leaned down to my ear,

"Why do I feel like you have something to do with this?" He laughed. I giggled,

"I didn't say anything," I replied. Sonia was giving us a death stare, I was looking back at her because I don't know what she was looking at.

"Baby come on, that's my mom," Priest said trying to move Brianna away from the scene,

"I don't give a fuck who she is, she needs to get her crusty ass finger away from me,"

"What you gonna do about it bitch?" Tonya taunted.

Whew chile, the ghetto.

Even Saint was intrigued by all the mess because he was staring at everybody not even making a sound.

"Mama just go," Priest shouted as Brianna started to get hyped, Sevyn tried to sneak off but Bri caught her. She grabbed her by her ponytail and swung her to the floor.

"Oh lord," One old woman said before fainting. Dave burst into laughter,

"Someone help Granny up," He chuckled. I gasped and hit his shoulder,

"Go and help her fool," I said wiggling out of his hold so he could go and help her.

Bri was busy pounding into Sevyn's face as Priest tried his hardest to break them up.

"You're loving this aren't you?" Sonia said directly to me. I had to look around a few times because there was no way she was talking to me.

"I'm talking to you, ever since you came back around there has been nothing but drama," She said pointing at me. Chanel looked at me with a sympathetic look, what the fuck is she looking at?

"Sonia now is not the time nor the place because I promise you I will punch the hell out of you," I replied hoisting Saint up some more,

"You would punch your boyfriend's mother?" She asked with a bewildered look,

"I would punch you and your mama, so I suggest you move around," I said turning on my heels and walking over to Amir,

"Keys," I said with my hand out, "Before I punch your mama in her shit," He didn't even waste a second, he fished into his pocket and bought the keys out of his pocket.

I heard screaming and shouting making me turn around, Bri was still beating Sevyn's ass and Tonya was on the side arguing with Priest. I shook my head, I will catch up with Bri later. Sinai came running over to me,

"Mommy they're fighting," She frowned holding onto me,

"I know baby, we're leaving now," I said leading her out to the car, I got Saint's changing bag out from the car and laid him down on the seat. I changed his diaper and then put him in his carrier and closed the door.

"They good?" Dave asked coming behind me,

I jumped and stepped back, "I'm gonna have a heart attack one day if you keep doing shit like that," I mumbled.

"Sorry Love," He said wrapping his arms around my waist, "It's crazy in there,"

"I can imagine," I said leaning into him, "I'm not leaving the kids with your mom," I added,

"What do you wanna do then?" He said,

"They can stay with Taina, I don't want them around her if she can't respect me," I said truthfully. I would rather they stay with my friend than with someone who always finds something slick to say about me,

"That's cool with me," He shrugged and leaned down kissing my lips, "You know I didn't speak to Sevyn first, she came up to me,"

"Oh I know, you're not mad," I said smirking. The old Naala would have blown up on him but the new Naala ignored it.

"I can't wait to fuck the shit out of you in Miami," Dave grumbled in my ear. Just those words soaked my panties.

"We said no sex," I said but inside I was punching the air.

"I changed my mind," He whispered gripping my butt. He leaned down and kissed me passionately, bear in mind we are outside his father's funeral.

"I'm in there fighting for my life and y'all are out here fucking with your clothes on," Brianna said from behind us, with Priest following close behind.

"That's all they do," Priest called out. Dave stood up straight and I wiped the gloss of his lips.

"Priest don't come over here," Dave groaned as Priest walked over,

"Shut up patchy," Priest said mushing Dave's head.

"Not too much on my man now," I laughed holding onto him. Bri pulled my arm,

"Girl leave this man alone," She said giggling. Dave and Priest stepped to the side and seemed to be engaging in a very important conversation. The look on Dave's face was very serious, I made a mental note to ask him about it.

"You beat her ass?" I asked Bri looking back at her. This was a pointless question because I saw the way she left Sevyn.

"Is that even a question bitch?" She said laughing and sticking her tongue out. This is why I love Brianna,

"Come on crazy," Dave said getting in the car, "Y'all are going to be together all weekend,"

"Sorry Patchy!" Brianna said running off to Priest. This girl was a damn mess.

I got into the car and Dave pulled off immediately. I looked back at Sinai was asleep with her iPad hanging off her lap. I sucked my teeth and took the iPad, she knew she wasn't meant to be using that. Saint was also asleep which wasn't a surprise to me.

I sat back in my seat properly and looked at Dave who was concentrating on the road and gripping the wheel tightly. You could tell he was tense.

"What were you and Priest talking about?" I asked, making him draw his attention away from the road,

"Business," He replied bluntly. I wasn't convinced because that conversation sounded too intense.

"Okay, are you okay?" I asked putting my hand on his leg. He looked at me and smiled, putting his hand over mine.

"I'm good baby," He said but I knew he wasn't. I feel like there was something he wasn't tell me. I will get it out of him, one way or another.

"You excited to get away?" He asked glancing at me,

"I can't wait, I'm excited to see you perform," I smiled looking back at him. He pulled up at a red light and leaned over pecking my lips,

"I got a surprise for you later," He said against my lips,

"I hate surprises," I pouted thinking about what it could be.

Across town, Taina sat at he desk, finishing up the meeting notes that she was instructed to do. The office was now closed and mostly everyone had left. An older woman stepped off the elevator and walked towards her.

The sound of heels clacking made Taina's head pop up. A brown skin woman stood in front of her, dressed like she was bathed in money. She slid her sunglasses off her face and smiled sweetly, her face seemed very familiar to Taina, like they had met.
