《Safe Haven》Chapter Forty Four

I slowly open my eyes to find dark brown ones looking back at me. A smile forms on my lips as I take in the beautiful girl in front of me. Her dark hair brushed back, one hand in front of her while she lies on her side, a smile on her lips and her eyes softly looking at me.

"Morning," she whispers and raises a hand to tuck my hair behind my ear.

"Morning." I place my hand on top of hers. "Did you sleep well?"

"I pretty much blacked out last night. The driving and the activities wore me out." We giggle. "You?"

"Same. All the singing Daisy and Jess did on our way back gave me a bit of a headache. I like Taylor Swift, but when you spend over three hours with two lunatics screaming her entire discography right next to your ear, you're bound to consider killing them." She laughs. "But I'm much better now." I press a quick kiss on the tip of her nose.

"Um, excuse me? I think you missed." She frowns and kisses my lips. She pulls herself up and hovers over me. She breaks the kiss to start pecking my entire face.

"Jamie!" I laugh and push her away. "Are you one of those people that get all lovey-dovey and clingy after sex?" She falls on her back and laughs too. "I did not expect that of you."

"You actually think I could ever be like that? I guess you don't really know me." She giggles and kisses me softly. "I'm just messing with you."

She gets off the bed to go to the bathroom and I shamelessly check her out. "Shit," I let out in a whisper, but she hears me and turns around.

"What?" She frowns with an amused smile on her lips.

"Oh, it's nothing." I wave my hands. "I just think my girlfriend is really hot, that's all." She laughs hard and gets inside the bathroom.

I roll on my back and smile. In a little over two months my life did a whole 180º. My year started great and then it went downhill making me hit a low, but my friends were there. They helped me climb out of that hole and properly cover it up so that I could never fall in it again. Daisy, Jess, and even Scott helped me so much.

And Jamie...

She showed me that it's ok for me to take my time to fully heal, and whatever is meant to be will be. And even though it's not fair at all to compare her to Matt, I can't help it. This is how things should be, not the shit he put me through. The person I'm in a relationship with should make me feel safe and appreciated, and Jamie makes me feel that and more.

I raise my left arm and trace the four birds on my skin with my right fingers. I don't know what would've happened if I hadn't had them in my life during that period specifically. I got in a relationship thinking it would be smooth sailing, but the sky turned black, the wind picked up, and I lost control of the sails. In a blink of an eye I found myself in the eye of the storm. But they were there. She was there. She guided me out of it and I found my safe haven by her side.

The bathroom door opens and Jamie comes out. "Wanna grab breakfast?"

"Sure." I get off the bed and feel her eyes on me. "You want me to spin so you can have the full view?" I laugh and go to the bathroom, her hand smacks my ass when I walk by her and I jump with a yelp. "The fuck?" I laugh and turn to look at her.

"You can't expect me to keep my hands to myself." She giggles and starts putting on her clothes.

"Such a child." I shake my head and close the door behind me.

When I come back out, I find her pulling a shirt over her head.

"Do you have to go to your room before we leave?"

"Nope. But even if I did, I am not risking walking in on Jess and Scott again." I chuckle but wince with the memory.

"Good point." I finish getting ready and grab my bag on the way out.

Daisy finds us while we're eating and joins us. Our conversation revolves around stupid things until Daisy decides to drag us back to reality.

"Allie, when are you planning on working on the final project for design?"

"And spring break is officially over," I mumble. "Some time this week, why?"

"I don't want to do mine without some company for mutual emotional and psychological support. Maybe we could go to Wurster together to do that."

"I'm down. I'm really not looking forward to it and maybe this could help me not want to die as much."

"You two are so dramatic." Jamie chuckles.

"Excuse me?" I turn to her. "We're not dramatic! We have to write a paper, design some blueprints and build a fucking 3D digital model. So I think we're far from overreacting."

"She's right. Give us a week and you'll see the stress monster Allie can turn into. I've seen it with my own two eyes. It's like she goes full Jekyll and Hyde."

"No, I do not! Sometimes stress can make me a little irritable, but it's not like I turn into an evil alter-ego or something!"

After breakfast Jamie texts Jess to check if Scott is gone and, upon Jess' confirmation, we go back to my room so she can grab her things to go to her room.

The five of us have lunch together and Jamie complains for ten minutes straight that Scott should've taken her to LA so she could meet Chris Evans. We fill him in on Jamie and I being together and the fact that Daisy knows about Jess and him, and she makes sure to promise us a few punches if we ever keep secrets from her again.

When we go back to the dorm, Jamie comes to my room and we spend the rest of the day watching random videos and movies while cuddling in bed. She leaves a little after we finish the pizza we ordered for dinner and when I go to sleep I can't stop the smile that appears on my lips.
