《Safe Haven》Chapter Forty Three

"You girls can come back anytime you want," Liz says as she hugs us goodbye. "Even if Jamie isn't coming home." We laugh.
"So you'd rather spend time with them than with me?" Jamie crosses her arms.
"I got to spend the majority of the last 20 years with you. Plus the nine months you were literally attached to me." I don't know what makes me laugh more, Liz's statement or Jamie's shocked face.
"Good to know." Jamie closes the trunk and opens the driver's door. "Well, it was nice seeing you, mother."
"Oh c'mon. You know I love you." Liz pulls her daughter for a hug.
"Liz, I hope you don't mind, but I'm stealing the leftovers of that lasagna you made," Daisy says from the other side of the car.
"Not at all." She chuckles. "It would go bad if I had to finish it by myself."
"It was really nice meeting you, Liz." I hug her and make my way to the passenger door.
"I guess I'll see you girls around." She waves.
The girls get in the car and Jamie pulls out into the street.
The drive was pretty chill and soon we're driving around the familiar streets of Berkeley.
"Why don't we stop at Elena's to have dinner before we get back to the dorm?" Jess asks from the backseat.
"Now we're talking," Daisy says.
"I'm down." I answer.
"Let's go." Jamie turns on the turning signal and we arrive at the cantina a few minutes later.
"Girls!" Elena greets us once we walk in. "How was your break?"
"It was great! I took a lot of great pictures to post on my Instagram," Daisy says and I laugh. "But we also had a lot of fun."

"That's nice!" The old lady smiles. "Take a seat, I'll bring your bruschettas in a bit." She disappears in the kitchen and we pick a table to settle down.
"Is Scott back yet?" Jamie asks.
"Nope, he's arriving tomorrow morning." Daisy answers. "Too bad for Jess and her needs." She laughs loudly by herself.
"You do know I don't need a man to fulfill my 'needs', right?" Jess shoots back.
"Not when I'm around!" Jamie says. "I do not have to witness that."
"Y'all paint me to be a sex addict." Jess laughs.
"If the shoe fits..." Daisy mumbles.
"It doesn't."
They keep bickering until Elena brings our food, then we're all eating and talking about all we did this week. Dinner goes by quickly and we drive back to the dorm.
We pick our things from the trunk, but before Jamie closes it Daisy holds my arm. "I forgot to grab the blow dryer from your bag."
"I'll bring it to you after I open my bag."
"But I'm taking a shower right now and I'll need it."
"Can't I just drop it in you room while you shower?
"It won't take long, let's just get it now so you don't have to come over." I sigh and put my bag back on the trunk so I can open it. I shuffle things around and pull Daisy's dryer out. "Thank you!" She presses a kiss on my cheek and skips away.
I roll my eyes and put the things that fell out of the bag back in. I start closing the zipper, but somehow the things that were inside ten seconds ago don't fit. "How is it not closing? There's literally more space in after taking that out. It looks like I doubled the amount of things," I whine as I shuffle things inside the bag to find a way to close it, but it doesn't happen. "I give up." I pick up the bag and hold it in a way nothing falls out.

"Stop." Jamie giggles and pulls my bag back to the trunk. "Give me a few things and I'll carry them for you so you can close it." She pulls out a thicker coat and a few other things, and I finally can zip it shut.
"You're an angel." I smile and we walk to the dorm.
We get in the elevator and Jamie's phone buzzes. She pulls it from her pocket and grunts when she looks at the screen. "I hate Jessica."
"What is it?" She shows me her phone and I read the text Jess sent her.
'Scott came back earlier and surprised me. Go crash with Allie or something.'
I laugh and look back at her. "I guess we're having a sleep over tonight."
We get to my room and I drop my things on my desk. "Do you want to watch a movie or something?"
"Sure. Anything specific?"
"Nah, you can choose whatever you want."
She grabs my laptop to search for a movie while I put away the things that didn't fit back inside my bag.
When I'm done, I join Jamie on my bed.
"What are we watching?" I look at the laptop screen.
"Some random movie I found on your home page." She presses play and I make myself comfortable.
Her fingers intertwine with mine, her thumb starts rubbing the back of my hand and a small smile forms on my lips. I scoot closer and rest my head on her shoulder.
Halfway through the movie, I'm barely paying attention to the screen anymore. I'm focusing on the things I'm feeling just by laying next to Jamie and us holding each other.
I cuddle her even more and I feel her chest moving with her laughter. "Are you trying to merge our bodies?"
"No, I just want to hold you closer." I look up and our faces are inches apart. "Can't I just hold my girlfriend?"
"That depends, what are your intentions?" She raises one eyebrow.
"Just holding you, but do you want me to have another?" I smirk.
"Do you want to?" She smiles.
I stare at her before closing the laptop and putting it on my nightstand. I look back at Jamie and smile as I straddle her. "That movie was kinda boring anyway..." I lean in for a kiss and she responds with hungry lips.
The whole room seems to have increased temperature quickly as things escalate. I lift my hands and slide them in her hair while she digs her fingers on my hips to pull me closer.
I pull away as my hands leave their place to reach for her shirt, but she's one step ahead of me and the piece of clothing is already on the floor. I lean for a quick kiss before taking off my own shirt.
"I don't think you're allowed to look like that," I whisper and run my fingers down her arms.
"Shut up." She chuckles and pushes my back on the mattress.
