《Safe Haven》Chapter Forty Two

"Ok, it's not my fault you can't hold a plate." I stare at the mess Daisy made on the kitchen floor.

"I thought I saw a spider!" She raises her voice while tears stream down her face.

"I don't care, I'm still not cleaning your mess."

"Why are you crying?" Jamie comes in.

"Because I dropped my cake," she whines.

"You're crying because you dropped a cake?" Jamie chuckles.

"Don't laugh! It was the last piece and I really wanted it!" The tears start coming faster. "And I'm PMSing, so leave me alone." She turns around and heads down the hall. Soon there's the sound of the door closing.

"I don't think I'll ever get over how dramatic she can be." Jamie giggles and leans on the counter next to me.

"It's not something you get over. You just get used to it and learn to live with it." I sigh. "And we're living with her next year, so you better just accept it." I nudge her.

"I'll use you as my buffer."

"How would that work?" I giggle.

She shrugs. "I have four months to figure it out." She leans in and presses a soft kiss on my lips.

"Get a room!" Jess' voice makes us pull away. "Enough with the PDA."

"Just because you and Scott do your thing on the down low, doesn't mean we'll do the same," I say and pull Jamie back for another kiss.

"That was completely uncalled for, Allison." She scoffs.

"What's with all the drama today?" Jamie asks against my lips.

"Why is there a piece of cake on the floor?" Jess eyes Daisy's mess.

"Daisy dropped it and then cried," I explain.

"Sounds about right." She starts scooping the cake out of the floor and throws it in the trash. "I was thinking that maybe we could light the fire pit again and make s'mores to celebrate our last night here. What do you think?"

"Let's go," I say and she starts pulling out food from the cabinets.

I lay on the couch outside with my head resting on Jamie's lap and my eyes locked on the sky. The scent of the s'mores floats around us and the heat from the fire warms me while I hold the blanket over my body.

"Why does Henry Cavill have to be so hot?" Daisy sighs while looking at her phone. "Honestly, this man could run me over with a car that I would ask him to do it again." I laugh.

"So you're saying that Superman is better?" Jamie asks.

"Don't start with this again!" I yell before either of them could say another word. "We already settled on 'it doesn't matter'."

"Just because you decided that, doesn't mean we agree," Daisy replies.

"Let's just stay on the Henry Cavill topic," Jess says. "He's too hot for his own good."

"I second that." I raise my hand. "God only knows what I'd do if I ever met him."

"Should I be jealous?" Jamie giggles.

"Of course not. There's no competition." I smile as I look at her. "He definitely wins." I laugh while shock fills her face.

"So that's how it is," she says and I just nod.

"You two are disgusting," Jess mumbles.

"What's wrong with you?" I sit up and turn to her. "Has Scott not been doing-" I cut myself with wide eyes. Shit, Daisy doesn't know about this.

"What?" She stares at me. "Has Scott not been doing what?" She looks at Jess who might be trying to burn a hole in my head with her eyes. "What do I not know? There's something I'm missing here." She looks at me and I shrug. "What are you not telling me?" We stay silent and suddenly her eyes widen. "ARE YOU AND SCOTT TOGETHER?" She turns to Jess.

"What? No!" Jess winces. "It's not serious."

"Why am I the last one to know everything?" Daisy gets up. "How long has this been going on?"

"Longer than us." I motion between Jamie and me.

"What the fuck, Jessica!"

"It's not serious, Daisy. You're overreacting."

"I've been the fifth wheel all this time?!"

"You can't be a fifth wheel when there are no couples," I say. "Jess and Scott are just screwing around, and Jamie and I weren't together for a while." I shrug.

"Same difference!" She huffs. "You're telling me everything." She sits back down and stares at Jess. She starts to protest but Daisy cuts her off. "Now!"

"That's my cue to go to bed." I chuckle and get off the couch. "I don't have to listen to all the details." I walk towards the house and turn around. "And don't worry, Jess, you'll be getting some in no time. We're going back tomorrow and you can have all the fun you want with Scott." I wink and rush inside. I hear footsteps behind me and I run thinking it's Jess.

"Why are you running from me, weirdo?" Jamie's voice fills the hallway and slow down.

"I thought it was Jess coming after me," I giggle and turn around to hug her, "but this is a much better sight." I kiss her softly.

"Would Henry Cavill have been better?" she asks.

"In your home? In Fresno?" I raise my eyebrows. "Of course it would!" I laugh.

"You're so not sleeping on my bed tonight." She pushes me off her and goes to her room.

"Weren't you the one saying everyone was dramatic today?" I laugh and follow her. "I guess it's rubbed off on you." She turns to me with a smile on her lips. "Even though I think he's hot as fuck, I think you're way hotter." I close the space between us and put my arms around her neck.

"I don't think I believe you," she whispers against my lips and closes the door behind us.

I hear the lock and a smirk forms on my face. "Do I have to prove it to you?"

"Maybe."

I close the space between our lips and start a hungry kiss. Her hands roam all over my body and I walk us towards her bed. When she hits the mattress behind her, I pull away and push her to lay down. She smiles at me while I straddle her and lean down to kiss her again.

My body gets warmer by the second and my breath speeds up. Her hand sneak inside my shirt, making me sigh. The skin she touches tingles and I try to bring our bodies even closer. She pulls away and her hands hold the hem of my shirt. Her eyes look deep into mine and I know she's asking for my green light. I nod and soon my shirt is flying to the floor.

She flips our position and now she's the one straddling me. "Fuck," she whispers while her eyes travel down my body.

I pull her back for another kiss, but before our lips could touch, the door is being punched.

"Allie! I need you!" Daisy's voice sounds muffled from the hallway.

I sigh and look at the ceiling. "Do you think she'll believe we're asleep if I don't answer?" I whisper to Jamie.

"Allison!" She yells and pounds the door again.

"Even if we were, we would've woken up by now." She pecks my lip and gets off the bed. I groan and follow her.

I grab my shirt and put it back on before I open the door. "What do you want, Daisy?" My eyes meet hers and take in the scene. She's soaking wet with a towel around her. "What the fuck happened?"

"I fell in the pool." She huffs. "I need my blow dryer, but I already put it in your bag."

"Why couldn't you just use Jamie's?" I roll my eyes and walk towards my things.

"Because it's not as good as mine. It would take double the time to fully dry my hair." I hand her the dryer and she rushes out of the room. "Thank you!" she says over he shoulder before closing the bathroom door behind her.

I stand there just staring at the hallway and then turn to look at Jamie. "Why, though?" I huff and run my hands through my hair.

She laughs and closes the door. "It's just Daisy being Daisy." She starts changing into her pj's.

"So that's it?" I raise my eyebrows and point to her clothes. "You're just going to sleep?"

She laughs. "Maybe Henry Cavill can help you with that."

I groan and throw myself on the bed. "I hate you."
