《Safe Haven》Chapter Thirty Four

"Mrs. Bell, you're my idol," Daisy says after she finishes her last bite of dinner.

"Thank you, Daisy." She laughs. "But Bell is my ex-husband's name, I'm Aria, and I already told you to call me Liz."

"Then, Liz, you're my idol." We all laugh.

I take another good look at Liz. It's clear to see Jamie is her daughter, she's almost the spitting image of her mother. The same dark brown eyes and slightly wavy hair, the sharp bone structure, the skin with gold undertones... They were almost the same person, except Jamie is at least three inches taller than her mom.

"What did you girls do today? I wish I could've met you before I left for work, but that didn't happen."

"We just hung out," Jess answers. "We sat outside for a while and talked, but came inside once it got colder."

"I hope you get to enjoy the pool tomorrow. They're promising a lot of sun and heat, so you better get in that water," Liz says.

"I can't wait to go for a swim." I sigh. "I love water, but I don't get a lot of chances to go for a dip."

"You have all week now," Jamie chimes in. "I'll spend the entirety of my days inside that pool. I don't care what the rest of you want to do, you know where I'll be."

"Count me in," I reply. "Literally." I giggle.

"Same," Daisy says. "I'll be inside that pool for so long, Jamie might think I turned into a fish and will want to study me." We all laugh.

"As fun as this conversation is," Liz says "I need to shower and get the smell of food out of my hair." We all wish her a good night as she leaves for her room.

"What are we doing now?" Jess asks.

"We can watch a movie," Jamie replies.

"Let's watch something creepy!"

"Nope," Daisy says. "I'm not in the mood for nightmares."

"But you can hug Allie if you get scared in the middle of the night."

"Hey!" I protest. "Don't drag me into this!"

"Fine, just put something random then," Jess tells Jamie.

We all put our dishes in the dishwasher and sit on the couch to watch as many movies as we want.

"Jamie's going to pass out," Daisy says when I come back from the bathroom wearing my bikini the next morning. "I think I might even steal that hot piece of ass for myself." She comes towards me puckering her lips.

"Shut up, Daisy!" I giggle and push her away. "I don't wanna think about that right now. It's just a bikini and we're going to the pool, that's all."

"If you say so..." she says in a singsong voice.

"I do say so."

"Ok." She winks. "Let's go, then. I'm dying to get in that pool."

We leave the room and walk towards the kitchen to get to the door that leads to the back yard. I see through the glass that Jamie and Jess are already outside playing ball near the pool. Daisy opens the door and yells. "Let's swim, bitches!" She runs out.

Jamie looks at us and her eyes get a bit wider, making me blush a little. Soon she is getting hit in the face by the ball and falling backwards into the pool.

"Oh shit!" Jess shouts and runs to Jamie as she comes back to the surface. "I'm so sorry! I was aiming at Daisy."

"Hey! Don't blame me! You're the one that missed," Daisy says as she walks towards a small roofed area near the pool where they kept a table and chairs, and a grill. She places her things on a table and I walk towards her. "And Jamie is the one that was distracted checking Allie out," she whispers so only I can hear.

I swat her in the arm and she yelps. "Shut up, Daisy," I whisper-shout.

"These are just facts, babe." She sends me a kiss and runs towards the pool to jump in cannonball style.

"Since you two are already in," Jess says "let's get this party started!" She turns the music on, grabs my hand and pulls me forward so we can jump in the pool together.

The water cools me down as I sink to the bottom of the pool. I push myself back up and brush my hair back.

"Why didn't you say the pool is deep?" Daisy whines.

"Because it isn't," Jamie replies.

"I'm on the tip of my toes!"

"Daisy, it's only five feet deep."

"Oh, I'm sorry," she says sarcastically. "Not everyone is a giant, you know?"

"Babe, we're not giants," I say. "You're the one who's just... not that tall." The rest of us giggle.

"Excuse me?" She raises her voice. "5' 2'' is not small."

"But it isn't tall either," Jess chimes in.

"You're only, like, an inch taller!"

"But I don't have to stand on my toes," Jess brags.

"Whatever, Daisy." I chuckle.

"Shut up, Allison! Just 'cause you're seven feet tall doesn't mean you get to bully me."

"I'm not bullying you."

"Yes, you are!"

"How is she bullying you?" Jamie questions and chuckles.

"Shut it, Jamie! You're a giant too." Daisy huffs. "Whatever." She takes a deep breath and goes underwater.

"Drama," Jess sings and gets out of the pool. "Let's play volleyball." She grabs the ball and throws it to us.

"As long as you don't smack me in the face again," Jamie says.

"As long as she doesn't keep checking you out, she'll be fine," Daisy whispers in my ear and startles me.

"Shut up," I whisper back as I chuckle and swim away from her.

As planned, we spend the whole day in the pool. We play a few games, swim around, and Liz comes out to help us start the barbecue for lunch. I give her a hand with the food and try to learn a few things from her.

By nightfall, we've all taken showers and just hang around the fire pit near the pool. We bring out a few blankets since the temperature dropped and listen to Liz tell stories from when Jamie was a kid. It's fair to say we laugh a lot and Jamie gets a little embarrassed by some of the stories, but I love them all.
