《Safe Haven》Chapter Thirty Two

I stare at the bag on top of my bed waiting for me to pack it. I close my eyes and hope for some supernatural force to pack it for me, but it obviously doesn't work. I grab my phone and text Daisy.

I need back up

🌼

what do you need?

You

Come to my room

🌼

do i have to?

Yes

Get your ass here

A few minutes later Daisy is walking through my door and I shoot her a smile.

"Hey, pretty lady."

"What do you want?" She crosses her arms and looks at me.

"I just wanted to see my best friend."

"Stop it, Allison. What do you want?"

"You know me too well. I wanted to ask you to help me pack." I give her my best puppy eyes.

"Are you serious, Allie?" She huffs. "That's what you wanted?" I nod and smile. "You know we're leaving tomorrow right?" I nod again. "And you still haven't packed?" I might turn into a bobble head after nodding so much. "Why do I even ask? Of course you haven't."

"I can't help it!" I whine. "You know packing is my worst enemy. I never know what to bring and when I finally decide on that, I can't pack it nicely. It always ends up a mess and all my clothes come out looking like they were inside a hurricane. So can you help me?" I hold her hands. "Pretty please."

She huffs and opens my closet door. "Do you have anything in mind?" I shake my head. "Of course not. So I'll just pick whatever I want and if you don't want it, just say it."

"That works with me." I smile and plop on my bed.

Daisy starts pulling out a few clothes and I only say no to two things. I'm beyond happiness. When we're done with normal clothes, she starts going through my swimwear.

"How are you and Jamie?" She stops looking at the drawer and turns to me. "Are you feeling good yet or are you still waiting?"

I sigh. "I don't know. I think I might be ready, but I don't want to do it too soon, you know?" She nods. "I think I'll feel the water during this week and maybe figure it out after we come back." I scrunch my face up. "I don't know."

"It's going to be ok, babe." She sits next to me. "You'll do the right thing."

"But how will I know if it's the right thing?"

"You just will."

"Wow! That clarifies a lot." The sarcasm is clear.

"If you're going to keep with that attitude, I'm leaving." She starts getting up, but I grab her hand.

"No! I'm sorry! I'll be an angel. I promise." I give her my best smile and she corresponds.

"Well, back together or not, you're so going to show off." She pulls a black bikini from the drawer. "You'll look hot." She smiles.

"Daisy! That's not the point!"

"So what? Let's boost your self-esteem! And let her see what's coming her way." She wiggles her brows. "This bikini is really cute, though. If you don't bring it with you, I'll steal it."

"Fine. Pack it." I sigh and smile.

She cheers and adds the two-piece on the pile of things to pack.

We finish packing, and by 'we' I mean Daisy, and go to the dining hall to meet the girls and Scott for dinner. When we get inside, we spot them and go get our food before joining them.

"So you'll have a girls trip starting tomorrow, huh?" Scott asks when we get to the table.

"It won't be all the girls, though," Daisy says as she sits next to him. "You're not coming with us." Scott frowns, and Jamie and I laugh. I turn to look at Jess and she's holding back her laughter.

"I know you love me and you'll miss me," Scott says.

"Sure..." Daisy replies.

"When are we leaving, anyway?" I turn to Jamie.

"I think nine-ish is good. That way we can eat before we leave and we'll arrive for lunch. What do you think?" She looks at me and the girls.

"That's cool," Jess says.

"I'm taking my bags to your car today so I can exploit Scott's presence." Daisy smiles and looks at him.

"I might have to charge you," he says.

"My friendship is enough payment. When we're done, you'll help me."

We laugh, and keep eating our dinner and talking about our plans for spring break. Scott says he'll help his father at this TV show he's working on so he can learn this about 'the biz', as he puts it.

When we're done, Daisy drags Scott to help with her bag and the rest of us decide to bring all of our stuff too since Daisy's already doing it. I get my things and go to Jamie and Jess' room to wait for them.

"That's not going to fit, Jessica!" Jamie says over her shoulder as she opens the door for me.

"What's not going to fit?" I ask as I come in.

"The luggage she packed."

"You never know what you're going to need!" Jess defends herself.

"Why would you need to bring a sewing kit?" Jamie shoots back.

"To sew something if it gets ripped," Jess says as if it's obvious.

"But you're going to my house! My mom has all these things there. She has a sewing kit. And a stain remover!"

"You're taking a stain remover?" I chuckle.

"No, she's not." Jamie opens Jess' luggage and starts going through it. "Allie, give me the bag that's on top of my closet please."

I find the duffle bag and hand it to Jamie, who was now pushing Jess away so she could finish picking what was appropriate.

"Jess, you're not going to need all of this." I hold her arm to keep her away from Jamie. "You know I'm the worst packer, but even I think this is too much." We both giggle.

Jess and I sit and talk for a few minutes as Jamie sorts Jess' things. When she's done, I text Daisy to let her know we're leaving and we all head to Jamie's car to drop things off. We quickly settle things in the trunk, say goodbye to Scott, who wishes us a safe trip and good spring break. Then we go back to our rooms for the night so we can rest before the long drive tomorrow.
