Patience and power. These were two of the things an assassin had complete control over. A Mafia leader. A murderer. But in this instance, not Rafael.
His teeth gritted in anger at the minx before him. After having discovered vital information from Itzel, his somewhat happy mood had changed drastically to annoyance. Every little thing ticked him off, especially the girl before him.
She stared at him with petrified eyes, something which ignited the fire within him. He bathed in her fear, almost feeding off of it.
With a sneer to his lips, he growled out the next words.
"Do you really mean that, my love"
His eyes lingered south, almost as if a heavy force was dragging them downwards towards the pink, plump lips before him. The sight stirred an unknown feeling within, as his thumb outlined an action he could only dream of doing with his mouth.
All of her pleas and cries for help went over his head, his sole focus on the burning firecracker before him. After a good couple of uncomfortable seconds, for both of them, he finally broke out from his reverie.
"Shhh, my love. To be honest, I've had a very, very long day" he began, a facade escaping through his lips in the form of a sigh. He looked down at the little demon, seemingly finding the hight difference too amusing. " And your whining makes it no better. So why don't we go to bed and sleep"
A small yet arrogant smirk dominated his features, knowing exactly what must've been going through her head. She must've noticed this too, as she took a step back discreetly.
Of course Roman was aware of this.
Just to add fuel to the fire, to add salt to the wound, he'd figured, why not throw an extra statement out into the open, to try and seek her little demon within. "What do you say, wifey"
And out the little demon came indeed. As within a millisecond, she was right infront of him, her head craned and neck full of determination to not bend before the superior. Like a wild lioness.
"I say for you to stop calling me that!" Came the snap from her heavenly mouth. Rafael was in no mood for this and so he decided enough was enough. The temperature had decreased, causing goosebumps to emerge from Laila's hijab clad figure.

Without another second to waste, he encapsulated the small of her waist and instantly did what he'd do to any women who'd test his patience. But of course, this wasn't any women, he found himself thinking.
Eradicating these thoughts before they drowned him, he looked down at the minx. After all that complaining and bickering about not sleeping in my bed, look at where you ended, Laila Bakhash.
She began moving vigorously under him, seemingly appearing stronger than Rafael's toughest hitmen.
"You're a sick man, Rafael!" Came her yell, successfully releasing one of her knees from under his finesse. But that's what struck the middle, angering Rafael altogether. With a swift movement, the lights shut off with an instant command of his hands, and poor Laila was lying there, restless to get away from him.
But he did not care.
"There's one thing you should know about me, darling and that is I'm not a very patient man. So, for your own good, I'd stop moving about and get to sleep" That seemed to do the trick, as after a couple of seconds, Laila's anger died down.
She looked tired and scared. But most of all, defeated. Something blossomed in Rafael's heart upon picking up her dejected emotions. Good. This is how it's supposed to be.
With a broken whisper, she agreed to Rafael's words, sealing her fate for that night. With no time to waste, the demon got off of her faster than the speed of lightening and allowed room for her to walk past.
Everything about her changed in that instant. Her walk was lazy and the way she looked around was like a kitty in an unfamiliar environment. Hadn't she been here before? Shouldn't she know where she is, In whose room she was in?
Those questions were for another time. Now was the time to wait by patiently until sunrise.
Meanwhile, Rafael shook off his blazer, and threw it over the couch. His shoes were next to come off, placed neatly in the walk in closet.
The door opened behind him, and with one swift smirk, a wink and an arrogant pep to his step, he sauntered past Laila, like nothing was wrong. He basked in her misery, and from now on, he'd savour every moment of it.
She was his now. And that too permanently.
The demon was surprised to see the many pillows lining as a barrier smack dab in the middle of the king size bed. Another time, he would've shown Laila his ways, but for today he'd let it slide.

Let the kitty bask in the control for once in her life. After that, she was the demons. So silently, he walked to his end of the bed, and lay down. In an instant, peace erupted within him, something he hadn't felt in many years.
He was as still as a lion, his mind following the path of a sinister route all the while he lay better than the dead. He could sense every rise and fall of her breath. Every rustle of the sheets. Everything. Nothing went past him, and you'd be foolish to think otherwise.
Not long after, a light illuminated in the dark followed in by rustling. It was Laila. She'd tiptoed towards the exit, completely unaware of the demons watchful gaze upon her. And in there lied her naivety. Another time, he would've been amused by her antics but right now, only the worst thoughts clouded his mind upon who she could be calling this late at night.
She had once mentioned a man waiting for her back home... Could it be her husband? Boyfriend? She didn't seem like the type to have any sort of relations before marriage. Rafael's mind eased at the thought, but then doubt was quick to settle in. But what if...
Luck must've sided with Laila that night, as she entered the room before the demons mind could conjure any more ideas. He lay there in the dark, as still as water, whilst she walked a few steps inside.
But as if a light switch had been tyrbed on, she hakted midway and presumed her way towards the exit.
"Don't even think about it" cane his prompt warning. No amount of hesitation lingered on her features the further she walked from him.
"Come here"
"No" came get whisper. The demon heard this, and with a low growl stormed towards her.
"I told you girl, I'm in no mood for fucking games. I was lenient before, but now you'll play under my rule" just that statement alone was enough to light Laila's brain on fire.
Pure rage filled the demons body, not used to such negative attitude from no one. Except this girl who seemed to love ticking him off.
"Rafael please, I don't want to sleep in the same bed as you. Why don't you get that?!" A tear escaped from her eyes, not fazing the demon in the slightest. He continued walking with her in his arms towards the bed, placing her down not too gently.
"Well too late for that" came his mumble. He made sure to remove the excess pillows from the bed, making movement of getting under the covers, much to Laila's astonishment.
This was turning out harder than what Rafael expected, but then again, why did he expect things to go easier when he commanded a Hijabi. She was quick on her feet and remained set in stone with her words and actions.
Right now he had to sleep, if he wanted to confront Itzel about those three men. Things were escalating pretty quickly from bad to worse and Rafael had to do something before all this could get out of hand. After having learned their motive, Rafael was not one to stay still and let turmoil unfold before his eyes.
Without another second to lose, he grabbed the small of Laila's waist and pulled her closer to his warm chest. It was all going smooth until Laila reached out her hands to prevent them from making any more contact. It was amusing to see her in such a state, with tears freely falling from her eyes.
Rafael sighed loudly, knowing if she continued crying, she wouldn't ever fall asleep and neither would he. He'd have to comfort her. Something he hadn't ever done before this women.
"Shh" he cooed gently, which sounded foreign coming from his mouth. Before today, he didn't even know if he had such a lulling side to his voice. But whatever, he was thankful it was working, as Laila's tears eventually turned to sniffles.
The hands which were against his chest loosened in their stance, no longer holding the fight in them. Soon, she was fast asleep, just like Rafael wanted. And soon Rafael followed suit, his own eyes too heavy to open.
Together they lay, unaware of the turmoil which would be soon to follow on. All the tables will be turned. All the coins will be tossed.
The only question remaining to be answered is, which side would you pick, Heads or Tails...

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).
