When my eyes swiftly shut open, the never-feeling pain of headache sauntered into my head. I groan, lightly hoisting myself up the white bed that had the warm sun on the surface. My lips parts open as I let out another grunt, my hand gripping my head from the immense pain.
"Good morning,"
I quickly turn my head in the direction of the voice that spoke, my black curls twirling and fluttering on my neck as I did so finding it very familiar and startling.
Synn was seated in front of me on a black chair with his right leg traversed on his other leg. His ringed fingers stay put on his leg, almost near his calves as he looks at me with an indecipherable look. His skin was finely contracted with the black long sleeve he was wearing, his sharp red eyes dancing on mine. From the rim of his neck, I see a new fresh tattoo is drawn on his skin, the area a little red and looking irritated. The image of it looked like writing done on his neck in italic with the honed black ink.
I groan again finding the headache becoming more critical in seconds. I turn my gaze away from Synn, discerning the room I was in. It was still my same room but the colour of it seemed more radiant but only to my vision. I couldn't remember what happened last night being the thing I remembered was someone dressing up for me.
I take a quick glimpse down to check my clothing to see the white comfy nightwear moulded on my body. My feet were clouded with blue socks as I take out my feet from under the blanket.
Quickly remembering I had Synn seated in front of me, I take my eyes back at him puzzled by his fragmentary sitting position and reason.
"I have a headache," I say bluntly throwing away the blanket that beforehand covered my body to the other side of the bed.
"I know." He says also getting up with me as I did. I stumble a little going over ahead from the bed to the way of the bathroom.
"What happened last night?" I ask him smoothing my hair from my face before gazing at him. I see a small faction smirk from the corner of his face.

"We attended the opening of my new company." He says vaguely splitting out the details of the reason for his smirk.
"Oh," I whispered before shutting the door behind me as I enter the bathroom to get ready for the day. I slide to the other rival of the small bathroom to look at my reflection in the speculum.
What I see is different than I expect. I looked so bright today it was almost confusing why. My hair gleamed conversely than normal and my lips were plumper.
My skin was not pale but different. I looked like a whole new person. Spanning out to my toothbrush, I caught something in my reflection. The cryptic purplish mark that was hidden under my hair.
I quickly gather all my hair from my shoulder, bringing it to one shoulder to observe the weird-looking mark. Once I was done, I gulp immediately once my eyes landed on the neck mark. It looked so raw and red around its area. I bend open my fabric to show my collarbone where I see more of them and just on my left shoulder.
What was this?
The clicking open of the door alerted me that someone had come in. I quickly leave hold of my nightwear so it covers back the mark left on my collarbone and so Synn doesn't see it. My head was pounding, my body becoming more fainthearted. Synn says we tended a party last night but it doesn't seem like all true.
I hastily glance to the mirror where I see Synn bowing to the door of the bathroom. His two hands were wrapped plainly to his chest with his legs crossed. I take that as my shot to turn around and ask.
"You wanna use the bathroom?" I asked. I see his pink lips roll into his mouth, shaking his head as he did so. I nod, facing back the mirror and proceeding to brush my hair. I take out my hairbrush from the upper cabinet and a white bunny hair tye to use it later.
"Do you remember anything from last night?" I hear Synn ask. I lower my gaze at him, being conscious. His question really threw me off the edge. There must be the reason he was asking which made me suspicious.

I look at him, turning around. "No, I don't." I say softly. Either ways siding my embarrassment, I was keen to know what happened to my neck. I didn't have any marks on my neck from previous. The neck marks looked so new and fresh. Maybe asking Synn about it will help me know what happened last night. For all I know, I would have embarrassed myself in the party- I don't remember anything from.
I drop the materials I held in my hands on the counter in front of me before turning around to face him. I feel his curious gaze on me, watching everything I did in front of him.
I bring my hand to lower the collar of my night wear a little so the marks are exposed directly in front of him. Doing this made me feel embarrassed to be honest but knowing no reason concerning it made it less embarrassing.
"I have these marks on my neck." I start making sure to advoid his gaze and just look at the floor that was less intimidating. "Do you know how it got there from last night?" I ask.
Not knowing what to do in the brief silence, I just waited for his answer in anticipation.
After a while, he answers. "I made them."
I lift my gaze from the white floor and threw it at him. My mouth was sealed close. Was he serious?
I didn't know what to say. There is a high chance he might be joking but something in me tells otherwise. How was it possible he was able to make marks on my body so painful to the sight. From the little I remember, I don't remember Synn touching me. Even so, how was it possible?
"You won't understand." He says breaking me from the ice of confusion.
"But I want to understand. How did you make them and why don't I remember anything from last night?" I ask feeling light weighted. Thinking didn't make my throbbing headache any better and this all was just instead adding more to it.
"Because you were drunk last night." He says in a matter of fact tone. Honestly, nothing was making sense right now. He saying I was drunk was just out of point giving me a lot of reasons to believe he was lying.
I have never taken alcohol before and definitely I haven't tasted any kind in my life.
"You're lying." I whisper to myself basically to convince myself he was lying to me. "I have never tasted alcohol before." I defend my answer.
I see his eyebrow raise at bit from my last sentence. He probably didn't believe me but I wasn't lying.
"The alcohol really did mess up with you, huh?" He taunts running his tongue on his lips. I shake my head.
He was just being delusional with all this but that didn't stop me from asking further about the marks.
"What about neck mark? How did being drunk create that?" I ask a little absurdly.
"Like I said before, I created that with you sitting on my lap while I create them. They are called hickeys and not neck marks."
I almost faint- I said almost- fainted from hearing those words fly out from his lips. Everything he just said sounded so fake, more specific the last one.
But the look I saw on his face didn't say it all.
"Really?" I almost shout, raising my voice a bit. He leans away from the door frame and strolls inside.
"Yes." He says dryly picking his toothbrush from the small cup. He was trying to advoid the topic but I needed to know more.
"How?" I blurt out curiously. He lifts his head to look at me before shaking his head.
"You're asking me to show you?" He asks in disbelief.
"Can you?" I say tilting my head as I adjust back my collar still feeling the heavy pang of headache flow through my skull. Those painful looking marks didn't just appear there with no cause.
In the state of letting my hands fall flatly to my side, I was taken aback as I feel my back hit the counter behind me in the process of knocking me out of my breath in an instant. Synn holds my left wrist with one of his hands and the other one tilts my neck so it exposes the other untouched part of my neck.
"Gladly."

After the Long Burn
After the longest exodus in human history, a terrible accident threatens to turn the salvation of humanity into its most desperate struggle for survival. From the ashes of calamity rises a new human story. A frustrated scientist dedicates her life to recreating the Earth in alien soil, while another is gunned down for his sin and sets off a chain of events culminating in a desperate escape across the void for an opportunity at redemption. Around a distant moon a deep space miner stumbles onto a secret, the key to which lies buried inside his own tortured mind. After the Long Burn is an anthology of short science fiction stories set in the distant Ionad System. Author's Note: I thought I might try something a little different with this story. Rather than one story, it is six stories of varying length, each taking a slightly different perspective to tell a larger story. Some are more actioney, others more cerebral but I hope there will be something for everyone. Stories over 7000 words, with the exception of the titular After the Long Burn, will be published in two parts. I anticipate an upload schedule of one part every other day.

Greys II - Ghosts
There he stood, dark eyes, dark hair, beautiful in the most devastating of ways. It scared me how little he had changed, his hair was longer and black, his frame thinner, like he hadn't eaten since I last saw him. His eyes were different, lacking something they had always held before, lacking anything really, and yet he was the same. He looked weak, but I knew he wasn't. "Hi, angel."His voice was just as dead as his eyes. It sent a shiver up my spine. That was the reason I felt sick, that was the reason he seemed different. He was dead, and as much as I wanted to hate him, I was sad he was empty, sad he wasn't the same man anymore."Hello, Gabriel."My voice came out softer than I would have liked, the words burning my tongue. But it didn't matter, I got the desired effect even if the volume wasn't there. He flinched, his eyes widening, his eyebrows twitching up and together, his jaw setting for just a moment. But then it was gone and he looked away, death settling back in his eyes, in the lines of his face.» ✦ «#2 in Angel Romance#3 in Demonology#11 in Thriller#Mature, 18+ for all the reasons.
