《Lose Myself》Chapter Forty-Eight: Game Plan

Amara and I had devised an excellent game to play, this would be the most fun we'd had since we came to this country for sure. The game was in our favour. We chose where the pieces moved next. Amara was getting dressed in something slightly suspicious but professional also, our first step was to worry them. Make our motives warped in their minds.

We locked the door on our way out and caught a taxi to the city, paying the guy upon our exit. We walked into a lawyer's agency, I'd done business with the guy before and planned to get him to help us out.

I watched my father tense as Amara and Dominic walked into a lawyer's office, they'd sent people out to scout the city and one of the men carried a recording device on his person. Every second of that footage was instantly transmitted to us, who sat in my father's office watching attentively.

Leo looked genuinely worried by their plan, my father probably thought they were stupid whereas my mother didn't seem interested in their activity. She much preferred to focus on our next step, not theirs.

We watched the footage, the camera now recorded them in the window of the building - with the lawyer. They seemed friendly and Dominic looked at an unusual amount of ease. He's usually the one tense, eager to finish the fight and rushing into danger with no second thought. Seeing him having thought things through made even myself uneasy and I wasn't even the target.

I nodded along to everything being said and tried my best not to laugh, Dominic and Enrico where talking absolute gibberish but pretended it was business-like conversation. I can't believe he expects me not to laugh.

As soon as we'd entered Dominic had told Enrico they were probably being watched so to just play along from now on, they shook hands and sat - followed by me. Afterwards Dominic told him that he wasn't really involved with much, and that we were playing tricks.

Dominic hadn't told me that Enrico was the best lawyer in the country, all the mafia wish he were in alliance with them. Dominic coming to Enrico would be serious in the eyes of everyone, I would've loved to see actual business happening - since I hadn't yet - but the opportunity was missed.

"Grazie per l'aiuto." Dominic thanked sending a wink at him before doing the two-handed hand shake and standing. I followed nodding respectively towards the man before Dominic placed his hand on my lower back and led me out.

It appeared Dominic was getting some legal backing of some sort, Amara seemed calm and Dominic was at ease. I can only trust them at the moment, what I saw wasn't what I should believe.

I turned to Santo as Dominic exited the building, "He's a fool for trying anything. There's nothing he can do." he said matter-of-factly then picked up the phone, telling the men to follow and keep tabs.

Claire continued to stare at the screen even after it went black, Donna pulled her into a side hug. "I know it can be hard seeing your brother on the other side like this, you understand its for the better right sweetie?" she smiled, Claire just nodded absentmindedly. Santo frowned at this but didn't say anything, they wouldn't trust Claire for some time - she'd always be pro-Dominic.

"Padumpap, padumpapa." Dominic was singing some tune as we once again walked the streets of Italy, this time we were meeting bunch of random people throughout the day. I was fine with it since I had a book and we'd be stationed in a cafe, nothing wrong with that picture.

I twisted my hair and brought it to one side, "Can you tell me why we're wasting our time?"

"We'll meet a bunch of my old friends that like the idea of a prank and spend like twenty minutes with each of them. It won't get boring, promise."

"I'm aware," I sighed, "How does this help anything?"

"We're pretending to make a new familia."

"Oh, cool." I dismissed as we sat down at a table one space away from the window. We ordered our drinks and snacks then sat waiting for our first guest.

After playing around a bit with my friends I was going to really stage the show, right now it seemed boring to Amara and I was aware she wasn't interested until the real fun began. Which wouldn't be too long from now.

Once I have everyone playing along, we'll lure them into one place and see what they do. Not a real plan but fun nonetheless.

My father had called us back to his office and we were once again watching boring ass footage, I didn't understand my reason for being here. Why was he including me in this?

This time Dominic and Amara chose a public space to meet with people, they met around forty guys and a few girls. They laughed, ate and exchanged documents with each person. Where they starting a cult?

I snorted internally at my own joke. The smile I'd had on my face fell when I found my father staring at me, I guess happiness should be reserved for another time.

The meet-ups lasted all day, Amara left a couple of times - trips on which she shopped a little and got takeaway from a different restaurant. Finally at around six they stood and exited the cafe, heading for a nearby dinner spot. We watched them eat their food and talk. That's all they did.

The more we'd keep this up, the more it'd feel like a waste of not just mine but everyone's time.

Amara had come up with an idea as soon as the first person arrived.

The whole thing felt kind of stringed together roughly and unprofessionally, but I didn't really have time for professionalism. I'd informed each person to bring a friend or two, we'd be meeting up tomorrow night for a real show. Every person was just skeptical but said yes anyway, some of the girls organised with Amara to bring food and fun stuff to do.

She kept calling it a 'giant criminal sleepover' and nearly suggested everyone to dress up, I stopped her.

She took a sip of her wine, "This is going to be fun."

"Glad you finally think so." I smiled.

She looked at me with a child-like expression, "We should have a barbecue."

I chuckled, "That a little too chill."

"I'm telling you, I'll build a fire if I have too - create a makeshift grill."

I snorted, "Go ahead."

"I will."

"Its just a little weird to me that they haven't noticed us following them," she carried on, "Do they want us to know what they're doing?"

Claire hadn't stopped talking about this since she'd woken up, we were on our way again to the office - the routine was getting old.

"Morning." Donna greeted as she placed the last tray on the table, she'd set up breakfast in the office and the surveillance screens were already on. Today the men were trying to find where Amara and Dominic were living. They looked healthy, well-fed and well dressed. Santo was probably worried about how well they seemed to be doing, not that he would admit to it.

We ate breakfast simply watching, had lunch simply watching and napped whilst Santo continued simply watching. Around mid-afternoon Claire sat up straight for the first time, unfortunately by the time she realised so had Santo and she couldn't keep it to herself. A friend of ours had sent us a text.

'Are you coming to your brother's meet up tonight? I'd hate to show up without you lmao that's just embarrassing. You know how I had a massive crush on him way back so you better not leave me hanging xox'

"Reply to her!" Donna shuffled closer to Claire, Claire hesitantly started typing.

'Lol I forgot, whereabouts?'

'The warehouse near the auto shop, Leo knows where it is. Starts at eight so you better not be late :P'

"Great!" Donna seemed excited, "Problem solved. We know where they are."

"It's not that simple," Santo rubbed his jaw, "We'll send spies to the area early, then when the time is right and everyone is gathered we'll ambush and capture the two. I'm sure Dominic doesn't have any amount of weapons to be handing out, every person there should be unarmed."

Amara and I sat in the living room drinking tea and swapping ideas, "My father should send spies earlier and then ambush later. Classic Vitiello tactic, he doesn't change it because he doesn't believe it fails. His own pride will be his demise."

She snorted, "I don't believe you. He can't be that stupid."

"He has a large amount of faith in his men, he believes they can't be beat."

She chuckled getting up to get more tea, "He forgets you're the reason his men were unbeatable."

"He believes I'm weak now because of emotion."

"He can't be more wrong." she shouted back.

I'd started playing loud music, we were both getting ready to head to our scheduled location. We'd told everyone to dress like spies, my idea of criminals had made Dominic think I was taking it too far so I just told everyone to wear black or something. They were gonna look cool.

I zipped closed my jumpsuit, it had long sleeves and long legs, was skin-tight and shiny black. Showed the perfect amount of cleavage too. I'd worn it before.

"I remember that." Dominic casually pointed at it whilst picking up his coat, "I was so angry that day."

"I remember how angry you were that week." I added.

He snorted, "Very funny."

"I like to think so." I grabbed my coat.

He thinks he can win this, he thinks he can make his own little group and he thinks he can prove he's not afraid of me by making it painfully obvious then he's wrong. He's a child, he doesn't know anything about this business yet - not like I do.

"On your command sir." the man I believed to be named Romero spoke, he was leading the men today.

"Let's go." I said walking past and to the car which Donna already sat, I'd told Claire to stay put - Dominic wouldn't dare pull something on the house of Claire was sitting pretty in it.

Leonardo was in the first car giving the directions to the location of the warehouse, if he screwed us over in the hopes of helping his friend he would be signing his own death sentence. The boy wasn't that stupid.

After an hour and sometime of driving through the city we came to a stop in a pretty underpopulated suburb, the cars were parked along the side of the road near the 'auto shop' mentioned by Claire's friend.

"It should be this way." Leo announced after helping Donna out the car, we began to follow him to our destination.

The party had started an hour ago.

We stood watching everyone settle, people were eating and talking everything was pretty chill. I felt like I was at a high school get together.

"How are you feeling?" Dominic came up behind me planting a kiss on my nape.

I smiled, "Like this is going to be fun."
