《Lose Myself》Chapter Seventeen Part One: Spa Day

Something was slapping my face, I waved in front of me in an attempt to swat it away but it was expert at dodging. I gave up the pathetic attempts and forced my eyelids open. Claire stood in front of me fully dressed and holding some fabric which I assumed was clothing. I gave her a weird look then looked over my shoulder to find Dominic was awake, frowning but with his eyes closed. I assumed he wanted us to move out of his space so I ignored how close his was to spooning me and smiled at Claire. "What do you want?" I asked with the sweetest voice that had an obvious hint of fake pleasantry in there too.
"Don't be such a sourpuss." She grabbed my arm and pulled me up to a sitting position.
"Claire you're such a nuisance." Dominic grumbled from behind me, I felt him pull the quilt closer. It must've lifted up when Claire pulled me up.
"Nonsense." Claire addressed she returned to examining my current state, "Dominic you know we're going shopping for dresses today."
"Uh," I rubbed my eyes then looked up, "What for?"
"The brunch on Sunday."
"Right." That's the day they said Dominic would be proposing. Now I know he finds me attractive, too bad I passed up the opportunity to officially name myself his girlfriend last night.
"C'mon sweetie," Claire pulled me until I stood, "Let's go." She grunted as she struggled to pull me along, "You weigh a lot more than you look."
My eyes widened, I stole a glance at Dominic relieved he seemed to be falling asleep again, "Shut up Claire!" I whispered a shout. She looked over at Dominic and started giggling. I slapped her arm playful.
"Ow." She squealed. Maybe it wasn't so playful.
------------------------
Claire had brutally insisted I wear make-up so now I sat letting her do whatever she pleased with my face.
Last night had been fun. After both taking showers Dominic and I had changed into our pyjamas - mine consisting of a lace nightie with a matching gown and Dominic in boxers which caused a lot of distractions on my part.
I can't lie the pizza was absolutely amazing, it was everything. Making it was much more rewarding, at some point during the process I accidentally flicked some dough onto his chiselled abs and he made a joke about me 'licking it off' and it basically escalated from there. Flour was thrown, dough was painted onto skin and people were picked up and threatened over a pizza oven chimney.
"So are you excited?" Claire breathed onto my face as she did my 'practise run' for tomorrow, which was her excuse even though professionals would be doing our make-up tomorrow and it was so obviously not true.
"For what?"
"To be engaged silly." she giggled. I thought about it a little and it got me giddy, I was excited but most of all I felt worried. What if he regretted it? What if he got bored of me too quickly? Dominic was not a 'settling down' kind of person and that wasn't a secret.
"I feel sick and happy at the same time."
"Sick?" she frowned stepping back to look at her work and then returning to breathing on my face as she continued with her masterpiece.
"Yeah," I looked down, "This doesn't seem like a bad idea to you does it?"

"No." she put the brush down then began wiping her hands with a wipe, "Every mafia man gets married, most for the benefit of the familia. It won't be a weird thing," she looked at me meaningfully as she sat on the armchair across from me, "And plus Dominic totally likes you. Like, likes you likes you. He's practically emotionless so it's hard to tell if its 'love'," I snorted at that and she frowned but continued, "You'd have to wait for him to confirm that one."
"No need."
"You can't feel love too?" she sympathised.
"No. I uh unfortunately am all to familiar with the feeling, it brings along a lot of other emotions with it like sadness, regret, hurt -"
"Well if you associate it with bad things like that," she got up shaking her head, "I wouldn't be surprised if you felt sick."
"Thanks."
"You guys ready to go? The car is here." Abrielle stood in the doorway breathing heavy as if she ran, she glanced between the two of us - Claire looking disappointed and me looking shook - then nodded for us to follow her out.
We exited out the front door, Donna had told us 'not to hold back' and 'put everything on the tab' which I didn't know what the 'tab' was for but I couldn't wait to feel like sh-t after being forced into using it. "Honestly I have my own tab." I complained once more as everyone got comfortable in the car, Claire let out a frustrated sigh but Abrielle just smiled at me.
"Let someone else take care of you for once." Clarissa spoke up still looking intently at her phone and typing away. Abrielle looked over at her phone and frowned.
"Are you fighting with people in Instagram comments?" Abrielle pointed at the screen causing Claire to snort.
Clarissa scoffed closing her phone, "No."
I smiled a little. We pulled up to the massive mega-mall and we all got out of the car, a large amount of reporters and paparazzi crowded the car. Men who'd rode in the black SUVs in front and behind of our car now held them back though that didn't stop them from asking their questions.
Claire! Claire! How do you feel about your brother dumping a heiress for a woman whose been missing for five years?
Amara over here! How do you feel about finally being back on the map?
Abrielle! When is your next fashion show? What underwear will you display next?
Claire! Abrielle! How does it feel to be complete sluts in the eyes of the media?
Clarissa! How are you dealing with the breakup?
Amara! Amara! Are you still worth 14 billion dollars?
We kept walking through, the men protecting us and our heels clicking on the pavement as we walked faster and faster away from the commotion. As soon as we got inside which was thankfully a paparazzi free zone, large groups of people had stopped what they were doing and now held phones up in anticipation of which celeb would be emerging from the frock of pelicans outside. They didn't seem at all disappointed as each if us walked in, the screams and shouts got louder as it went, it being Abrielle then Clarissa then Claire and then me.
I found it amusing that only a little while ago the world was introduced to the mafia and who was behind each familia and instead of fearing or hating us, most people loved us. Dominic was obviously the most famous mafia man of our generation, now that he's becoming Capo dei Capi, he's practically trending on twitter. At the end of last year and the beginning of this one he was named sexiest man alive and held that title for 5 months. And because he's not a model each cover was simply a photo of him taken by paparazzi, of course Dominic managed to look flawless in each one so much so that he might as well have been modelling.

Claire had told me all of this during our first gossip sesh, she'd explained it as 'letting you know what you're getting yourself into' and I'd readily accepted the information though only to know more about Dominic. "Stop daydreaming and let's get into our first shop!" Claire exclaimed clasping me wrist and guiding me to the store Clarissa and Abrielle were walking into. I was happy to see that she'd forgotten about the conversation we'd had earlier and was sporting a huge friendly smile like usual.
We visited a range of designer stores each trying on dresses and modelling for the rest including the people that worked there. Claire tried on this beautiful red dress, it had sparkles on every inch, a sweetheart neckline and flowed out into a train at the end. Clarissa found a shiny emerald gown that suited her brown hair perfectly, it was neck high and sleeveless and also formed a train at the end. Abrielle found a pastel pink chiffon gown, we planned to put her dirty blonde hair into large curls falling from a fancy ponytail to suit her dress.
I still hadn't found a dress but I insisted we stop for lunch, we now sat at a starlit restaurant. I ordered a salad with cherry tomatoes, Claire got a veggie burger along with Abrielle but Clarissa opted for an oyster dish. We ate our food then when we finished, watched Clarissa slowly finish her last three oysters.
"Why do you have to eat so slow?" Claire groaned. Clarissa placed the shell on her plate, dabbing her mouth with a napkin.
"It's not lady-like to eat at the speed of a barbarian."
"We were not eating like barbarians." Abrielle frowned.
"Amara was." Clarissa snorted. I raised a brow.
"Ignore it." Claire got up and grabbed my hand, "Let's go find you a dress sweetie."
We all up and followed her to the last couple of stores.
We stood in the last store looking blankly at all the displays, I felt a slippery but smooth fabric and pulled out the hottest dress I've ever seen. I loved it but I honestly didn't think –
"That looks gorgeous!" Claire squealed grabbing it from me. I smiled. "It totally suits you, with your badass vibe and it will totally show off your hot bod."
"Thanks." I felt myself blushing a little I really did like it.
"You're going to look like a straight up queen in that." Abrielle was now rubbing it up and down, "Its going to look stunning."
Clarissa rolled her eyes.
"I feel like it's not right for the occasion.." I squinged.
"Don't worry," Claire turned to holding it up as she said, "When the brunch starts we'll all be wearing basic stuff because it's more of a private event, the party really starts at around six at night. That's when we're going to wear our dresses."
"Oh."
"Lei sarà simile a una vera e propria dea romana!" both Claire and Abrielle giggled in unison. I raised a brow then gently tugged the dress out of their grip.
"I'll just go pay for this."
"Ugh," Claire tugged it from me, "Stop with this I'll pay bullsh-t. Its going on the tab like the rest of us, you're not anything special." She strutted over to the counter and slid the dress over, I watched embarrassed as she signed a receipt and poked her tongue out at me.
"That seems like all we needed to do today," Abrielle smiled looking at her watch, "And all in good time, its 11:12 am."
"Yeah," Claire breathed, "Let's get to the fun stuff."
"Already texted the driver." Clarissa announced walking past us, Claire and Abrielle shared a look then we made our way out.
The drive was filled with excited talk about how it was going to be so much fun tomorrow with everyone looking so glam and so many of our friends being there. We pulled to a stop in front of the spa, I frowned. I was almost certain we were going home.
"What are we doing here?" I asked eying the door.
They giggled then Abrielle replied, "We're getting facials, our nails done and getting full body waxed."
"Full body wax?" my eyes widened. That meant, they would be touching.... everything.
"Don't look so stricken Amara," Clarissa smirked, "It is all part of the process."
"Eyebrows, arms, underarms, chest and stomach, back, bikini wax, buttocks, legs..." Claire listed counting each on her finger, eight.
"We're going to be here a while." Abrielle gave me a playful slap. They led the way into the building and I reluctantly followed, is all this really worth it?
--------------------
"Welcome home girls," Donna smiled at the door, "Did you have fun?"
"Sì, definitely." Claire nodded. I shook my head slightly, only to myself but Donna took notice of it and chuckled.
"Okay well get upstairs, into your nightwear and back down here for family night okay?" Donna winked before going through a doorway.
"Yes!" Claire squealed, "I love family night."
"What happens on family night?" I questioned, Clarissa rolled her eyes again.
"Its this thing Dominic and I came up with when we were kids, we noticed our family was quite large and it would be such a shame not to take advantage of all the brothers and sisters we had, so we came up with Family Night." she was walking with me up the stairs, "The people of 14 years and under go to the third house and have their night there, sleepover and all. The people above 14 and under 30 come to this house and hang out, including a sleepover but because of - certain circumstances - we sleep in seperate areas. The people above 30 go to the second house and do as they please, they are adults after all but just a hint, they get super wasted and end up passed out."
"And all this before tomorrow?"
"We always do family nights on Saturdays, no matter what."
"Night." Abrielle waved as she turned down her hallway, we waved back. Clarissa had left unannounced and Claire's room was just coming up.
"Well," Claire pulled my waist into a side hug, "I'll see you downstairs, put your hair in a bun or something and wear things that won't make men want to sleep with you." She smirked pointing a finger at me before spinning around and closing the door to her room.

The Empty Valley Cries Unheard
The stories can be read at any order. Phew, this story was finally finished at last! What could I say, it was a hell of a ride when I wrote it from the beginning to end. Thanks for having me on RR :D All the current chapter had already done a run on Grammarly, so hopefully it'd be more readable. ...kinda feeling lazy so calling off the edits for now. A couple of old / new attempts of combining Horror, Comedy and Absurdist elements. I'm not very good at writing Horror stories but I'd like to try once in a while. Although the first chapter may be completely screwed up, believe me--I mostly write fluffy gay scenes between two girls. It would PROBABLY become a lot lighter as we moved up the chapter count. Not for the faint of heart, but if you're like me who like some absurd or nonsensical stories, this might be right up your alley. Sorry in advance if some of the chapters seem normal lol additional tags : nonsense / absurd / parody

Right as Rage
Only 15 years have passed since the miscreant god, Villi, stole magic from the gods and gave it to mortals. In response the mortals seem to be doing their best to squander this gift. The Kingdom of Abrune regulates it, the church of the Sacred Hierarchies outright condemns it, but one 'wildman' from across the sea begins his journey after being cursed by it. Vakdragnar's curse manifests when he loses his temper. It has driven everyone he’s ever cared about away from him. Out of options and money, he travels to the city of Tirough and quickly finds himself on the wrong side of the law. He is persecuted despite his intentions to do good. How can you stand against evil if everyone you’re trying to protect thinks you’re the villain? And if this curse is truly a part of him now, what if they’re right? **************************************************************************************************** Right as Rage is a story I’ve been excited to write for some time now. I hope everyone is as excited to read it. This story is going to be told over several arcs, with each arc containing 7-12 chapters, and an interlude or two each. I plan on submitting new chapters once a week on Tuesday evenings.
