~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's dark. The room is small. You don't know the time. Roxy left a million years ago.
You try to think of Maribelle. You hope she's doing alright. Is it daytime yet? Will she be at the daycare today? You thread your fingers together silently as your mind mulls over questions you can't answer when surrounded by darkening silence. Not even the tick of a clock. You want to hum, but breaking the silence now would feel like a disruption to how things should be. Quiet. Cold.
A thick click beams through the darkness, followed by a heavy grating noise and a blindingly thin line of light breaking a hole through the void around you. A door. A door is opening. ...Jesus? He looks... awfully Moon shaped. Oh wait. Goddammit.
Fingers splayed as you hide the light from your eyes, you look away. You got so many conflicting emotions from Moon after your last interaction, you can hardly tell if he's here to brutally murder you or sweep you away like a knight would with a princess. Then again, knights don't typically push princesses off of their balconies. Yes, you are still officially holding a grudge.
The light fades, bringing another grating noise as the old door creaks shut. You keep your hand in front of your face. You can't see him, but you don't want him seeing you. Stupid piece of shit. Chica should've attempted to throw him off the balcony.
You hear the soft tapping of footsteps, accompanied by the short ringing of bells. And then it stops. You can't help but look up. He's there; just two, perfect glowing spheres staring down at you. The PizzaPlex worker people must've repaired him, you realize. So maybe they aren't that incompetent after all.
In a slow, swift movement, Moon is crouching in front of you, his hands coming up to cup your face with eerie gentleness. You almost don't care enough to pull away. Sleepiness tugs at your eyelids.
"I'm sorry," He says in a soft murmur, "I had no other choice." His left hand trails the line of your jaw, the tips of his fingers tantalizingly dripping their way down your neck. Why is he warm? Or is that just you?
"Of course you had a choice," You quickly snap, trying to pull yourself away from his magnetic aura. "I highly doubt 'possesively kidnap co-workers and punish them when they flee like sane people' is a part of your coding." Moon jerks his hands away, evidently matching your anger.
He presses a finger to your chest. "You're ungrateful," He growls. Huh? FOR WHAT? IT'S NOT LIKE YOU HELD MY HAND AND TOOK ME ON TRIPS TO THE BEACH. Fuck offf.
You scrape any of your lasting stregth and force it to your arms, lamely shoving him away. "I'd be grateful if you left me alone," You rasp, your voice not matching your inner burning passion to shove your foot up his ass.
Before he can explain more of his contradicting intentions, a loud crash comes from outside the hole of a room you're in. Moon's head swings to the door. It sounded like something huge and metal had hit the ground. Moon's eyes find their way back to your face.
"I'm going to check that out. Stay here." You can't help but roll your eyes as he stands up. Right. Because I'm going where? Hawaii?
Moon slips out of the room so quickly it makes his entrance earlier seem dramatic. You barely have a moment to appreciate his absence before a clink on the ground to your left grabs at your attention. You sit upright, surprised that you're more alarmed at a small noise than a murdurous moonman that just kidnapped you.
It's quiet. Then, one right after the other, three more clinks. It sounds like something hitting the floor. You can just barely see now, the room not as pitch black now that you felt more awake. You piece out four screws on the ground. Then, a small clunk rips through the air followed by a sliding noise.
You look up and see an empty, opened vent on the wall. Nevermind, there's a bear crawling out of it. Wait a minute. WAIT A MINUTE.
You scramble backwards as a robotic bear with teal and red patterns hits the floor. He's mostly bear-colored except for an invasion of purple and green on his paws. Huh.
Before you get a moment to process the multicolored bear, a head pops out of the vent. It harbors pale skin and long, black hair that blends in with the walls. It- she, you realize, also appears to be young and frail, her bone-thin hands holding onto the edge of the vent. Hold on a gosh darnded second...
Maribelle smiles and waves shyly from the vent, and Freddy begins stomping over to you like a drill sargent. He lifts you up with one arm and carries you dutifully sideways back towards the hole in the wall like you're a textbook. Should you be concerned? And why is this the second time you find yourself asking that question about Freddy?
Freddy shoves you into the vent and you fall forward into Maribelle's arms, recieving a hug too strong for her to have possibly given it.
"How did-? Why are you-? Freddy is-??" You can't decide on a question to ask and stumble on the words foaming in your mouth. Maribelle just smiles softly, holding your shoulders and looking more-adult like than you could ever manage.
"Sunny said you were on a break!" She spills out, "But he was acting all nervous so I knew something was up..." A goofy, devilish grin takes over her face, fitting her surprisingly well. "So... the only way to get information out of him was to start kicking boxes over until he couldn't take it anymore. My friend Gregory told me that." You stare at her dumbfounded. You don't know if you should be angrier over Gregory, or the fact your most favorite child was harrassing your most second favorite child. I mean co-worker.
Maribelle suddenly looks worried, clasping her small hands together. "Sunny said he didn't know where you were! He was crying, and-"
"Sunny..." You finally echo, looking confused. But...
"Yup," Maribelle replies. "Anyways, he-"
"I've been out for a day?!" You cry. The only way Maribelle and Sunny would be in the same room is during daycare hours, and the only way Moon could be out now is if the lights were off. Maribelle flinches and nods with a sorrowful look on her face, confirming your dreaded conclusion.
"He said you were supposed to be there for the nightshift, and then you were gone in the morning..." She criss-crosses her legs, not needing to duck her head to avoid the low ceiling. Her exhilarant tone returns as she blurts, "Then we blackmailed Freddy into helping us!"
You choke on your surprise, coughing and looking at her incredulously.
Maribelle grins softly. "Just kidding! But he learned from Roxy where you were because she nevveerrrr shuutss uppp! I heard her in her room on the way here! Anyways, Freddy offered to help us." You turn back to see where the animatronic is, and catch him climbing into the vent.
"We must go, Gre-" Freddy begins and then cuts himself off. "Maribelle," He finishes. "I think our distraction won't hold the daycare attendant's attention for much longer.
You grimace. "What exactly did you distract him with?" Freddy stares at Maribelle, and you turn to see her looking very suspiciously non-suspicious. "What did you do?"
He cheeks pinken and she smiles. "We found half of a crocodile man in parts and services and pushed him out of one of the vents in the hallway." You turn back to Freddy, knowing perfectly well who she's talking about, and he's disapprovingly glaring at her. But he must know Monty might be the only distraction to keep the other animatronics at bay for that long. How sweet that he'd go through that trouble to save you. Or maybe just to help Maribelle.
Freddy squeezes past you, beginning to crawl towards a right turn in the stretching space ahead. Maribelle eagerly follows, and you turn back one last time to look into the room behind you. The silence drags, and you don't know how long you're going to sit there. Taking one final breath, you stick your tongue out at the bare room.
A small creak being your only warning, a sudden hand attaches itself to the entrance of the vent, eliciting a heavy groan from the metal as it bends under the pressure. Moon's head rises into view, drowning in the darkness, his silhouette saved only by his two scalding pupils burning holes into the abyss.
You gasp and flinch back, though you don't hear Maribelle and Freddy behind you anymore. Moon's arms slide into the vent, and he pulls himself up at a tantalizingly slow pace, as if he knows you won't move.
"Going s-s-somewhere?" He hisses delightfully, now halfway in the vent with his hands creeping toward you, the glitch in his voice adding to the fright. He looks like he belongs in some sort of horror game.
"No," You grit out, "But you are." You scoot away from him, pulling your legs to your chest.
A scarily amused giggle echoes through the walls. "And where would that be, little thing?"
"Parts and services." You throw your feet out and they connect with his torso, forcing him back out of the vent. Shit, at this point trashing Moon could be your full-time job.
He hits the ground with a thundering crash, and you begin fumbling backwards, not taking your eyes off of the vent entrance. There's a low growl followed by an almost indecipherable, "BITCH!" Well that's a damn first.
Your back hits cool metal, and you find yourself at a bend in the path. You spare one last glance at the entrance to the confined tunnel and see Moon clawing his way back inside, this time not in any mood to fuck around.
You immediately dive down the vent, following twists and turns as the sound of clambering doesn't subside behind you, but also doesn't seem to get closer.
Part of you wants to believe you're getting away. But you can't chip away the feeling that he's just toying with you again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You feel like you've been crawling for 20 minutes, making random turns and going in circles. Moon's desperate attempts at following you and calling your name dissipated long ago, but you still haven't stopped to rest. Your knees hurt.
Finally you hear familiar talking; a robotic voice paired with a worried, young girl's. Without bothering to peek through the slits, you open the door to the vent and drop down into a cozy, lit room that becomes immediately apparent it belongs to Freddy. It's basically decorated with his face all over it. Fun stuff.
You're immediately tackled by Maribelle, and her small arms wrap around your waist. You hug her back, interrupted only after a blissful minute when Freddy decides it's a fanfuckingtastic time to butt in.
"I'm going to go back to where you were being held," He says in a monotone voice, "I must make sure Monty is okay. He is still my friend." You offer him a small smile. You appreciate his compassion, even when his friends are all trying to kill you.
Maribelle runs over and hugs him, and when he actually returns it you're afraid he'll crush her, but- thank god- the small girl pulls away safely.
"Thank you, Freddy." Maribelle says, walking back to you and reaching up to hold your hand.
Freddy nods. "Of course, superstar. Stay here, you'll be safe. I will be back in no time." He leaves the room in the slowest jog you've ever seen, and you turn to Maribelle to see her jumping up and down in excitement.
"I just saved you from being kidnapped!" She squeals, "I un-kidnapped you!" You smile at her over-joyous grin. You've never seen her smile so hard, not even while doing crafts. It's adorable seeing her so proud.
"You did, that was amazing!" You praise, kneeling down and softly holding her arms. "Now what would you like to do until Freddy comes back?"
Maribelle only smiles wider, plopping down to the ground with a poof in her infamous pink dress. "I brought some of the rocks I made today! Sunny made them with me because you weren't here..." She chews on her lip and looks away guiltily. "Sorry, I know you're my rock-making buddy."
You smile and fall to the ground across from her, matching her criss-crossed legs. "It's no problem, as long as you had fun!"
Maribelle adopts her naturally shy smile again, pulling five rocks out of her pockets and carefully placing them in a line. She delicately taps each of their heads, supplying the names she's given them. "This one is Rocky... this one is Toad... this one is Deliah... this one-"
A mechanical screech from outside of the room slices through the memorable moment, and the both of you snap your attention through the glass wall of Freddy's room and to the source of the noise; some doors on the far end of the open space.
"Freddy," Maribelle gasps, and you quickly grab her, pulling her into your lap as she scrambles to save her rocks.
Freddy had only just made it to the doors, but was now laying on the floor with a certain bitchass towering over him.
The both of you watch in silent horror as his body is slowly dragged behind a wall.
Well shit.

8 173The Storytellers
Myra Kahani lives in a world of gods and prayers. People around her constantly reach out to the gods for advice and suggestions at critical times in their life. But Myra has a problem. No matter what she does, she can't talk to the gods. When Myra meets Roam, an old, enigmatic Storyteller, she finally gets some answers. She learns of the origins of the Universe, the divide between mankind and their deities, and the important role that Storytellers play in her world. But the truth for Myra is just the beginning of her story. The Storytellers is a story that I began to develop from a series of shorter stories that I wrote for a mythology and folklore class. As such, they have a strong basis in the myths and folklore of various cultures and religions. Join me as I try my best to integrate these stories into my own and develop the world of the Storytellers and Myra herself. This is my first attempt at any sort of longer-form fiction so helpful advice is greatly appreciated!
