《Princess of Peace [BNHA]》Chapter Fifty

The morning I was to leave for my very first work study, my stomach was tying itself into nervous knots. I glanced at the full length mirror, it seemed like the skirt of my costume had somehow gotten even shorter than the last time. I wasn't sure why I had to wear it when it seemed like I'd be stuck in an office all day. A soft giggle escaped me as Ritsu scurried up my body and quickly took his place in my hair hiding partially behind the tiara. I reached up and gave him some gentle pets.
"Are you coming too?" I asked hopefully.
He poked his little head up over my tiara and met my gaze in the mirror before nodding adamantly.
"That makes me feel much better." I relaxed a little before straightening out my uniform, a nervous habit. I took a deep breath and exited my room.
When I reached the ground floor, I found my way to the front door blocked by all my classmates. Even Present Mic and Mr. Aizawa were lying in wait. Present Mic was supposed to be taking Bakugo and Todoroki to their supplemental training lesson but I wasn't sure why Mr. Aizawa was here.
"Good Morning." I greeted them all with a shy smile, wondering why they were all blocking my path.
"Where are you completing your work study?" All the girls blurted at once.
"Who is it with?!" The boys demanded.
"EEP!" I squeaked as all my classmates swarmed toward me, surrounding me worriedly. Ritsu shifted atop my head and I had a feeling he was suddenly standing in a defensive stance holding his teeny tiny paws up like fists ready to punch all of my classmates. "Th-The Dispatch Hero: Tech." I answered in a panic and flinched as they all rushed me.
"Deku?" Bakugo growled, not recognizing the name but trusting in Midoriya's encyclopedic knowledge of all things hero.
"Tech, they're more of a behind the scenes hero. Their quirk deals with electronics and helps them monitor hundreds of live surveillance feeds at once, because of Tech response times have become way faster and more efficient since they can see things happening and dispatch the right person right away." Midoriya rambled.
I noticed my classmates relax, a few breathed sighs of relief and I let out a dejected sigh as I realized they were all relieved I wouldn't be in any danger since I'd be stuck in a room watching cameras all day long. The biggest danger I'd face would likely be burning myself on hot beverages or getting a paper cut on sticky notes. It felt like they were all looking down on me and doubting my capabilities.
"What a waste," Bakugo huffed, "I was really hoping I'd get to see you punch someone else in the face." He smirked.
My heart skipped a beat. He believed in me! Without thinking, I threw my arms around him, overwhelmed by the simple fact that he believed in me. "Thank you, Katsuki." I sniffled as I was overcome with emotion.
He tensed up, caught off guard for a moment before his strong arms gently encircled me, giving me a quick squeeze before he shoved me away from him. "Get going." He grumbled.
Everyone else offered me smiles and their own words of encouragement before parting. I wondered if I'd been completing my work study with someone else if they'd have refused to let me leave. I paused as I reached Present Mic and Mr. Aizawa. Present Mic looked as relieved as the majority of my classmates, which was a little disheartening. Mr. Aizawa frowned.

"Did your father suggest this?" Mr. Aizawa asked me curiously.
I nodded.
He shook his head but said nothing more on the subject before opening the door for me. "Well, let's get going."
"You're coming with me?" I asked in awe.
"I told your Dad I'd make sure you got there safely." He noted.
So Dad made sure someone was with me on the most dangerous part of my internship, the transportation. I tried not to look as dejected and disheartened as I felt and forced myself to offer him a polite smile. "Thanks, Mr. Aizawa."
His frown deepened. "Let's go."
I shuffled out of the dorm and walked slowly toward the faculty parking lot. Mr. Aizawa fell in step beside me . He kept throwing curious glances my way. I could sense his frown getting even frownier. Ritsu let out a squeak and leapt over my tiara. His little furry body hung down across my forehead and he frantically swatted at my nose as if he were trying to cheer me up.
A giggle escaped me and I reached up to catch him before he could fall. He dropped into my hands and swept into one of his adorable knightly bows. "Thanks, Ritsu."
Mr. Aizawa smiled faintly, " I'm glad you'll have a friend with you to keep you company...I'll have a talk with the idiot about your work study and see what I can do." He offered.
"...It's okay..." I replied somewhat morosely. "I think Dad needs this right now..."
Mr. Aizawa sighed.
The drive to Tech's agency was quiet. I avoided looking over at Mr. Aizawa for fear he'd see how disappointed I really felt with my work study. I was afraid if I looked at him he'd know and I'd spill everything and he'd already done so much to help me and Dad, I didn't want to unload more on him. As the car slowed to a stop, I pulled myself out of my morose thoughts and looked around. We were parked outside of what appeared to be a large building that rented offices to businesses.
I threw a curious look at Mr. Aizawa, he was frowning again, or maybe he never stopped, I wasn't sure. Maybe Dad and I had finally caused him enough problems; his face was forever frozen in a frown. "Is this the place?" I asked unsure.
"Apparently." He frowned even more and glanced at the GPS tracking on his phone. He double checked the address before sighing and turning the car off. "I'll walk you in."
"O-okay." I got out of the car and ran to keep up with him as he slammed his door shut and headed for the building, his stride angry and quick.
We stepped through the large glass entry way into a huge lobby. There was a large perfectly circular desk in the center of the lobby with two young women wearing black blazers with name tags. One was busy talking to a mail carrier and the other greeted us with a smile.
"Welcome, what business can I direct you to?" She asked politely.
"Tech?" Mr. Aizawa asked unsure.
"Oh, the dispatch hero?" She clarified.
He nodded.
"Certainly, their office is on the top floor. They said they were only expecting one visitor though." She noted, her friendly smile never wavering.
"I'm not staying." Mr. Aizawa sighed. He looked to me still not seeming happy about the circumstances, "are you alright on your own?"
I nodded and forced a bright smile, "I'll be fine. Thank you, Mr. Aizawa."

He rubbed his temple and let out a sigh, "...that idiot is dead..." He grumbled under his breath before lightly placing a hand on my shoulder. He gave it a reassuring squeeze before taking his leave.
I shyly looked at the lady behind the counter. She handed me a visitor pass and offered me a bright smile, "don't worry dear, Tech is very nice. That pass will give you access to the elevator and all of the building amenities, the cafeteria is on the second floor. If you need anything at all feel free to pick up one of the phones in the hallways, they link directly to the front desk and we'll be able to help you with anything you need."
"Thank you." I accepted the pass she handed me and nervously shuffled over to the elevators she pointed to. Ritsu dropped onto my shoulder and nuzzled against my neck. I smiled and scratched his tiny head affectionately before stepping into the elevator. My stomach tied itself into knots as I pressed the button for the top floor.
As the elevator dinged, alerting me to its arrival to the top floor, I felt like I was going to be sick. I took a deep breath and stepped off the elevator. The elevator opened to another much smaller lobby, there was no desk but there were several comfortable sofas and a handful of tables and chairs and a plethora of plants. There were three hallways, one that stretched out directly ahead of me and two others that branched to the left and right of the sitting area. On the wall I spotted a few golden plaques. The one on the left hall read 'Tech Agency' with an arrow pointing left.
I headed down the left hall and noticed a black phone hanging on the wall. That was probably what the receptionist had been referring to. The hallway wasn't very long and had a single glass door with 'Tech Agency' on it in big letters in a very robotic looking font. There was a small black panel to the side of the door where I assumed I swiped my visitor pass. The light above the panel turned green and a soft buzz sound emitted from the door. Nervously I pushed it open.
It opened into a large office space that was mostly barren. There were a handful of circular tables and rolling chairs. I spotted a single t shaped desk that looked like an actual functional desk just to the right of the door where an elderly woman with snow white hair pulled into a painfully tight bun was sitting. She wore a pair of green rimmed spectacles that had a pearl chain dangling off of them over her pale cherry blossom pink eyes. She was dressed in a pale pink dress that looked like something out of a 50's movie. She glanced up from her typing as I opened the door and her face lit up in a bright smile.
"Oh my stars, aren't you just the cutest little thing, you must be Amelia!." She shot to her feet and bustled over to greet me.
"Y-yes, ma'am." I curtsied awkwardly.
"Just darling." She smiled and took my arm in hers, "I'm Edna, I'm Tech's secretary, and grandmother, you can just call me Nan if you like, if you need anything at all dearie, you just let me know. We're so happy to have you here." She tucked my arm in hers and pulled me along, "this way." She pulled me further into the empty office space and as we turned the corner around her desk I spotted an entire wall filled with TV screens and various monitors that kept rapidly flipping through various surveillance feeds. There were hundreds of them. There were three long tables all connected to each other in a row a few feet away from the wall of monitors that were littered with phones. A person was leaning against the table watching the monitors closely.
"Tech dearest, Amelia has arrived." Edna called in a sing-song voice as she led me to the wall of monitors.
Tech straightened up and turned to us. They had short spiky lime green hair, violet eyes and a spattering of dark freckles across their forehead and splashed across their nose and beneath their eyes almost like a venetian mask of freckles. They were thin and pale and drowning in an oversized t-shirt with a retro looking plaid flannel over top and had on a pair of worn denim jeans with a pair of scuffed boots. They offered me a warm smile and extended a hand to me in greeting.
"Amy, I'm glad to have you. I'm Tech." Their voice was a soothing baritone.
I accepted their hand with a smile, "thank you for having me."
They glanced over at my shoulder to Ritsu and chuckled, "and who's this?"
"Oh, uh, sorry, I should have asked if it was alright if he came along." I blushed, "this is Ritsu, he sort of decided to tag along on his own. I hope that's alright." I babbled nervously.
"It's nice to have you as well, Ritsu." Tech smiled and offered Ritsu a pinky in greeting.
Ritsu politely bumped his little paw against Tech's pinky before snuggling me again.
"I tried to tell your Dad this would be a very boring work study for you." Tech sounded somewhat apologetic as they motioned for me to sit in one of the comfy looking rolling chairs. "Not a lot of excitement here, I send the other heroes out to all the exciting things."
"I'll bring some cookies over in a bit." Edna gave my arm a gentle pat before taking her leave.
"Thanks, Nan." Tech called after her as she shuffled away.
I glanced at the long tables of phones and noticed a hero's name labeled onto each of the phones. The one closest to me was unplugged and the name on it was 'All Might'. My heart hurt a little seeing it. Tech explained how the monitors were organized, the outline of the screens were color coded depending on where they were located to make it easier to decide which hero to dispatch to the scene.
We spent most of the morning watching the screens and getting to know one another. Tech was very kind and had a lot of hobbies though because they spent nearly all their time monitoring the screens they didn't get a lot of time to enjoy their hobbies. Tech let me make the calls for the few dispatches we had. They weren't too serious. Two were for cats stuck in trees and the other was for a kid's kite that had gotten stuck on a roof. Luckily all the heroes I talked to were really nice. I'd been worried about possibly having to call Endeavor.
After lunch, which was a delicious home cooked meal that Nan had made us and plenty of cookies, we returned to the monitors. Things seemed quiet. Ritsu was curled up in one of Tech's plaid flannels atop one of the rolling chairs taking a nap, his little belly was full from all the raw peanuts Nan had given him.
"Uh oh." Tech suddenly froze staring at one of the monitors.
I followed their gaze and saw a child clinging desperately to the ledge of a skyrise building.
"Shit, Hawks is the only one who can get there fast enough." Tech swiped up the phone that said 'Hawks'.
I watched worriedly as the child struggled to hold on. Tech was frantically giving directions to Hawks on the phone as I watched the child's grip begin to slip. Without thinking, I cast my hand outward toward the monitor as the child lost their grip and began to fall with an ear shattering scream. My hair fluttered around me and all of the rolling chairs and other pieces of furniture skittered away from me as if struck by an invisible force.
The child on the screen froze in mid air. Their screaming ceased and they looked around in wonder.
"Amy?" Tech asked worriedly as I felt something drip onto my upper lip and flow down my chin. I felt it drip onto my chest and realized I had a massive nosebleed.
I spotted a man with bright red wings appear on the screen and scoop the kid into his arms and I dropped my hand to my side before collapsing to my knees. Blood soaked the front of my hero costume, pooling in my cleavage. The room suddenly felt as if it were spinning and the edges of my vision began to darken.
"Amy?!" Tech yelled and I felt their hand slide behind my head before it could crack against the hard tile floor as I fell backward.
