《Princess of Peace [BNHA]》Chapter Five

~Toshinori's POV~
I wasn't ready for this! Already I was deviating from what Ayumi had instructed, I was going in alone. Which meant I had to do my very best not to embarrass Amy by buying too much stuff. Deciding it was best to go in my weakened form so as not to draw attention, I'd made my way toward a convenience store around the corner from the house. Hesitating just outside the doors of the convenience store, I took a deep breath.
"Alright, Toshinori, you can do this." I slapped my hands on either side of my face trying to pump myself up enough to step into the convenience store, "It's just..." I paused as realization hit me that I had absolutely no idea what feminine products were called.
I took a step into the convenience store. It was Friday morning so it was pretty empty most people were at school or work at this time. Glancing around the store I realized all the sales associates were men and groaned. Ayumi didn't give me a back up plan in case her original plan failed. There were no female store associates to help me and I couldn't bring Amy with me.
At the back of the store I spotted a pharmacy with a small minute clinic attached and felt a moment of relief, perhaps there was a nurse at the minute clinic who could help! As I reached the pharmacy and minute clinic area my smile fell as I saw a sign in both windows, they were closed for the day. My gaze fell on a few plastic displays along the wall with various medical pamphlets. Perhaps I could find some help there. I stepped over to the wall of medical pamphlets. There was a whole section about periods! Success!
I grabbed one of each and soon had a handful of pamphlets before frowning, "Ah...this is probably what Ayumi meant about going overboard." I put three of the twenty back and smiled, "There, much more reasonable." I smiled proudly as I started leafing through them hurriedly trying to find answers. The more I read, the more confused I became, there were so many different products!
Aimlessly I wandered through the store trying to find the aisle with the section for feminine products. I paused at an aisle in the middle of the store, there wasn't a small section within the aisle for feminine products. THE ENTIRE AISLE WAS FEMININE PRODUCTS! Starting to feel a little discouraged, I trudged into the aisle holding up the many pamphlets as if they were road maps that would somehow point me in the right direction.
The pamphlets weren't as much of a help as I thought as far as which products to get, they just explained that my life was going to be a bit hectic for the next 2-10 days and the process would repeat every month. I tucked the pamphlets under my arm and picked up the nearest box. It was brightly colored and had an outline of a girl jogging on it. That was good, right? I scanned the back of the box hoping it would provide some kind of information. There was something about an applicator wand.

"Wand...fairy godmothers have wands so that's kind of princess-y, right?" I muttered to myself and tucked the box under my arm before another brightly colored box caught my eye along with the words, 'fabulous florals' and something about wings, "Wings and flowers, those are good right?" I grabbed the second box before yet another one caught my eye. Before I knew it, I had an armful of brightly colored boxes. "Oh no, I did exactly what she told me not to." I groaned.
"Oh my, do you need a hand with that?" I heard a feminine voice sound from behind me.
I cheered causing all the boxes to hit the floor, "A lady! Ah- sorry, my apologies." I bowed apologetically to the slightly plump middle-aged woman with long dark green hair as she jumped at my outburst.
She laughed at my awkwardness and offered me a very motherly smile, "It's alright", she extended an empty shopping basket to me which I gratefully accepted and dumped the pile of pamphlets into. Her green eyes fell on the pamphlets and she smiled again as she figured out my predicament, "Daughter's first period?"
"Ah." I laughed nervously, "Is it that obvious?"
"You do kind of resemble a fish out of water." She chuckled as she helped me pick up the boxes I'd gathered. She glanced down at the one in her hand and laughed, "Oh, these won't do, these are for much older women."
My face reddened at this, "Ah. I really am no good at this."
"Oh, I don't know about that." She offered me an encouraging smile, "You're trying your best and I'm sure she appreciates it."
We managed to get all the boxes put away so I could start over. With the aisle put back together I felt lost again, my rescuer smiled and said she'd be right back. She returned a few moments later and held up a girly magazine that looked like it was for teenagers.
"I think the best way to see what products teenagers are using is in here. They always put adverts targeting teens in these magazines and they'll be advertising whatever the most popular brand is."
"Oh, I never would have thought of that. You're a lifesaver." I sighed with relief as I accepted the magazine from her.
After we found some advertisements in the magazine, she helped me find the right products to get with a few different selections saying all girls had different preferences and something about different flows that instantly made me red in the face. Once my basket had an acceptable variety of feminine products for Amy to choose from, she wished me luck and was on her way saying she had to get home to take care of her son who was home sick from school. As she left the store I sighed, I should have asked for her name so I could thank her properly.

Leaving the dreaded feminine product aisle behind I went in search of chocolates remembering Ayumi had mentioned that Amy liked chocolate with caramel. The candy was in the next aisle over which I was starting to think was intentional and very smart product placement. I got an assortment of different caramel chocolates before another thought crossed my mind. Wasn't this supposed to be a big deal? Like her first steps into womanhood. The thought made me groan inwardly, I was not ready for this.
I picked up a bouquet of flowers, some bright happy girly looking movie about ponies and found a cute Tanuki plushie before consulting the pamphlets to see if I needed anything else. They suggested heating pads and ginger tea, so I grabbed those before heading to the checkout. As I left the store I glanced down at my watch, I'd taken way too long. Hurriedly, I scrambled home. When I got home, I heard the sound of washing machine running and frowned, I should have been here to help her with that. She probably still felt really embarrassed.
"Amy?" I called her name curiously as I stepped out of my shoes and began searching for her. It didn't take long for me to find her, right where I left her, locked in her bathroom. "Honey?" I knocked on the door.
It clicked open after a moment and I felt my heart drop as Amy reluctantly stepped into view wrapped in a dark terry cloth robe. Her skin was much paler than usual, her eyes were red and puffy and she still looked like she was in pain. She looked at the plethora of shopping bags in my hand and a small smile twisted onto her lips.
"You bought the whole store." She said with a sniffle and a soft giggle escaped her.
"I wanted to be prepared for everything." I grinned as I extended the small bouquet of bright flowers to her.
"What's this for?" She asked me curiously.
"Ah...well..."' My face reddened, "I thought the situation called for it...ya know...stepping into womanhood and all." I choked out awkwardly.
Her face flushed and she accepted them with a laugh before stepping forward to hug me. "Thanks, Dad."
I hugged her back careful not to squeeze her too tight and hurt her, "You're welcome, Princess. Dad Might is always here to save the day." I grinned causing her to giggle. She stepped away from me and I set the bags down on the counter in her bathroom before hesitating. "Ah...I'll give you a minute."
She nodded before retreating to the bathroom as I headed back to the kitchen to brew some ginger tea. A few minutes later, I heard her bedroom door open and turned around. Amy still looked pale but her bright blue eyes weren't as red and puffy as before and she'd changed into some comfortable pajama pants and a loose tank top. She had the Tanuki plush tucked under her arm and was holding the movie I'd bought looking at it curiously.
"What's this?" She asked me with a giggle.
"Ah...I don't know, it looked cute and happy." I laughed nervously. "It's probably too childish...I can take it ba-."
Her smile grew, "Will you watch it with me?"
I felt my heart skip a beat, she wanted to spend time with me. "Sure."
"What are you making?" She asked me curiously and stepped into the kitchen only to pause as she spotted the plethora of period pamphlets fanned out on the counter. Her cheeks reddened and she bowed her head hiding behind her long golden hair.
"Ginger tea...I read it was supposed to help with cramps." I smiled sheepishly.
She took one last look at the pamphlets and shook her head before escaping to the living room wanting to get as far from them as possible. Once she left the kitchen, I hurriedly tucked the pamphlets into a drawer before finishing with the tea. I grabbed the heating pad and a cup of hot ginger tea before joining her in the living room.
I handed her the cup of tea before plugging in the heating pad. Feeling exhausted from my hectic morning, I dropped onto the couch next to her and smiled as she hesitantly scooted closer and hugged my arm, resting her head against my shoulder.
"Thanks for coming to my rescue..." She said softly, "Mom was right...you are the best dad in the whole world."
I grinned, "Parenting level, plus-."
"Infinity." Amy giggled.
