《Junoesque ✿George Weasley✿》77.

The return to a form of normality couldn't have been more of a blessing for Blair. The twins had finally agreed to letting her meet up with her Ravenclaw friends after weeks of being confined to the complex of the flat and shop. She had only been able to send a handful of letters to each of them, but had been dying to go to their little Muggle cafe to chat and get through their weekly news. However, she had refrained from telling them about Jasper's death. She thought it wouldn't be right to put in writing, so she had wanted to tell them in person.
But of course the twins weren't that lenient. They would let Blair leave on one condition, and that would be to have one of them with her at all times during the meet up. She knew they wouldn't compromise anymore than they already had, but she chose to take Fred along for this occasion. She loved George, but he was constantly worrying about her safety whether she was outside the flat or not. If he didn't start to relax, he would be spurting grey hairs in his mass of ginger by the time summer came around. Fred was more laid back in that sense and would at least settle George's conscience for one afternoon.
"We're leaving now, Georgie!" Blair called out as she and Fred made their way towards the door of the shop. It wasn't too busy today so George and Verity would be able to handle it while Fred and Blair had their day off.
"If anything goes wrong, send a Patronus and I'll come-"
"No you won't!" Verity butted in, appearing between the counter where George stood and the front door where Blair and Fred were. "I need at least some help here! You're not ditching me!"
"We'll be fine," Fred rolled his eyes at his twin's pampering. "You have such little faith in me, brother."
George narrowed his eyes and Blair took it as her cue to leave; the bell dinging as she opened the door and making Fred follow after her with a merry wave to his twin. The two left the shop and Fred suggested that they'd apparate, making the journey shorter and reducing the chance of running into any Death Eaters that were looking for Blair.
"No, I haven't been out of the flat for weeks now. I want to walk," she replied and turned up the hill that would lead her to the Leaky Cauldron.
"Ugh, excercise," Fred groaned, following after her with his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"You know you used to be a Beater for Quidditch, Freddie. Maybe you should get back into it?" Blair suggested.
"Pfft are you suggesting that I'm losing my touch? I'm insulted," he dramatised. "I could still take you on as Beater any day. I've just got other responsibilities now that I'm an adult."
Blair was about to joke about his few chores that he barely does around the flat, only to remember that his main chore had been to feed Jasper every morning and evening. It made her heart ache to think that his food bowl had been stowed away along with all his toys, bed and tinned food. She had promised herself that Jasper hadn't suffered when he died and that he would be living in 'cat heaven', as George always said. It had been hard to get over the fact that he wouldn't be curling up at her feet anymore and padding across the room whenever she'd pat the space next to her on the sofa. She missed him, but he had a good life.

Pushing away the depressing thoughts, Blair and Fred soon arrived at the Leaky Cauldron. Fred made sure to stay behind her as she walked into the pub and headed for the brick wall that would allow them into London. He eyed certain cloaked witches and wizards and steered Blair around the tables that he didn't like the look of. The Order was taking Blair's safety seriously now that You Know Who was aware that she didn't want to be recruited. With Fred and George being her set bodyguards, Fred stood to attention and took his job seriously. It was bad enough losing Jasper, they didn't need to have another unnecessary death on their hands because of his tardiness.
Making it out into the Muggle world, Fred followed Blair to the cafe she said she knew like the back of her hand. In the meantime, he looked over the heads of Muggles that he towered over. He had been through London before when seeing his father in St. Mungos last year, but hadn't had the interest to marvel over those who didn't know the Wizarding world even existed. But this time, he found them fascinating. They walked along the streets in their masses in business suits, expensive dresses and the wildest of outfits. They were odd and Fred didn't understand some of their ways, but they were interesting to watch.
"This is it here," Blair announced as she turned to head into the cafe on their left, making Fred pull his gaze away from the Muggles and follow in after her.
Poppy, Mina and Nancy were already sitting at a round table with various drinks in their hands. They looked up at the entrance of a small girl dressed in black and a tall redhead, immediately waving them over. Blair smiled and settled into the seat they had left for her since their first meeting; it now just being filled after weeks of it being empty.
"The great witch returns!" Poppy cheered. "And she brings her subject with her!"
"I ain't anyone's subject," Fred grumbled and sat at the table next to them. It was better to stay separated from the table in order to look over the cafe without being distracted by the girls' conversation. Besides, he didn't want to be seen as the only male sitting with a bunch of gossiping girls.
"What happened to you? You were gone for so long," Nancy stated, looking at Blair concerned. "Did... something happen with...?"
"Um..." Blair didn't know what to say. "Yeah. Something did happen."
The three girls waited for Blair to continue but saw that it was difficult for her to let the words leave her mouth. They could see the anguish in her face and even saw the glistening of tears in her eyes. But Blair blinked them away and attempted to smile at them, fiddling with the cup that Fred had at some point put on the table for her.
"Fletcher stopped me on the street one day," Blair stated, taking her time to speak to keep the tears that she had tried so hard to keep at bay for months. "He's a Death Eater now. He wanted me to join You Know Who, just like you guys warned me about."
"Oh no, Blair, you didn't!"
"N-No I didn't accept it!" she fought back, shaking her head vigorously to prove her point. "A-And Fletcher said that You Know Who knew I would say something like that. Jasper had been with me at the time and Potts..."

Blair couldn't and didn't need to finish. The girls had caught on quickly and started to soothe her and nod in understanding. They started to express their condolences and Blair humbly shook them off, saying that it was fine and she was working hard to come to terms with it. The entire house of Ravenclaw knew how much she loved her cat and always saw the feline pondering around the common room in search of her. They knew how horrible she must be feeling.
The conversation eventually brightened when Mina began telling a story about her neighbour that likes to sing in the shower every night. Blair gradually forgot about the dark subject and started to laugh with her friends when hearing the neighbour once slipped while singing a song by the Muggle singer Cher. They appeared like a normal group of adults who met for a hot drink and to chat, like women do.
In the mean time, Fred observed the cafe and the street outside while keeping an ear open to the conversation next to him. He had a Muggle coffee in his hands (to which he found he didn't like at all, but drank it to seem normal to the other Muggles) and found that everything seemed as normal as it could get. There were people that walked past the shop that he eyed suspiciously, but were probably only from his paranoia. No one was dangerous around here.
"Well it was nice seeing you guys again," Blair's voice caught Fred's ears and he stood up from his table, waiting to walk her out and head back to Diagon Alley. "Hopefully I'll be able to come next week and onwards."
"We understand if you can't," Nancy reassured and the others nodded, knowing about Blair's situation. "It was great that you could come today, though."
Blair nodded and waved to them, before turning to Fred and saying that she was ready to go. The two left the cafe and stepped out on to the busy street. They started to weave through the crowd with Fred in front and Blair grabbing his coat sleeve to not lose him. Fred learnt quickly that Muggles were rude and incompetent from looking up from the small, black electronics that were glued to their hands. It was lucky that he was taller than the majority of them so they would just collide with what they thought was a brick wall.
Occasionally peeking over Fred's shoulder, Blair could see the alley that they would need to turn down in order to reach the Leaky Cauldron. They would only need to escape the crowd and slip down it to enter the Wizarding world. But their path seemed blocked once she caught sight of a familiar face heading towards them disguised as part of the Muggle crowd. Blair's eyes widened and she gripped Fred's coat sleeve tightly, yanking it in order to get his attention.
"It's him. It's Fletcher," she ushered into Fred's ear, standing on her toes in order to only reach his hearing.
Fred immediately tensed and looked through the crowd, spotting the blonde Slytherin among the ordinary Muggles in seconds. He was able to slip his wand out of his coat but wasn't able to turn around to head the other way, as that would expose their backs to the Death Eater that was advancing towards them. Fletcher noticed that he had been spotted and smirked, keeping his even pace that would allow him to reach the two in exactly eight seconds.
"What do we do?" Blair panicked in a hushed whisper, clutching her own wand in her hand but keeping it low from the sight of Muggles.
Fred wasn't sure what to do. He wasn't counting on duelling in the middle of a Muggle street where he could be jailed for threatening the secrecy of magic by the Ministry. But Fletcher looked like he was here for a fight and wasn't leaving Fred with many choices. They needed to get to Diagon Alley, but that would mean having to pass him and that was bound to cause a duel in itself. They needed to lose him. Shouldn't be too hard with how busy the street was, but Fred's bright orange hair and towering frame made it that little bit more difficult.
"Cross the street," he instructed over his shoulder, veering through the stream of people and reaching the curb.
"Now? There's cars everywhere! We'll never make it!" Blair replied, thinking that he'd gone mad from the panic.
"Yes we will. Just trust me."
Fletcher had seen their change in course and began heading to the curb, walking the line of it to reach the two who were standing inches away from speeding taxis and red buses. Fred cast a silent charm over him and Blair and stepped out into oncoming traffic, Blair being too afraid to stay behind to not follow. Cars and buses were heading towards them at sixty miles an hour and she clenched her eyes shut, preparing for the hit while they marched across the street like madmen. But the cars passed right through them as if they were ghosts. When Blair didn't feel the hit, she saw the backside of a black taxi driving away from them without any of their blood or limbs on their windscreen. She turned Fred and saw a double decker bus pass right through him, before going through her also. Blair looked to the sidewalk in front of them and saw that Muggles hadn't even turned their heads; confirming her suspicion. Fred had made them invisible.
"You can't fool everyone, Weasley!"
Muggles turned to Fletcher and stared at him in confusion, thinking he was some loon who was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. To them, he was screaming into the street at people that weren't there. But he knew that they were there as he had seen them disappear right before his eyes. Blair dared to look over her shoulder and saw Fletcher raising his wand, his eyes trying to find where she and Fred were in the street. They had made it to the middle and were momentarily free from the buses and cars that sailed through them without knowing. Blair gasped and went to start running to the other sidewalk, but heard Fletcher's voice before she could make the decision.
"Incendio!"
