─── chapter eight.

snaps towards the door. it was snape, he was standing there with a smug smile. "vengeance is sweet, i was hoping to be the one to catch you"

rubi hated snape to the core but at the current moment she was jumping up and down in her head to see him. "severus.." remus tries to explain but snape aims his wand at him.

"i told dumbledore you were trying to let an old friend in to castle and now... here's the proof" he smirks at them in satisfaction.

"brilliant snape, once again you have put your keen and penetrating mind to the task and as usual it has come to the wrong conclusion. now if you'll excuse us me and remus has some unfinished business to attend to." sirius walks slowly towards snape.

but snape quickly puts his wand to sirius neck. "give me a reason, i beg you" he sneers. "now severus dont be a fool" remus tries to calm the situation.

"he cant help it, its a habit by now"

"sirius be quiet!"

"quiet yourself remus!" they banter. rubi looks at all three of them, wondering why they all seem to act like they know each other so well.

"look at you two quarreling like an old married couple." snape's lip twitches. "why dont you go run along and play with your chemistry set."

snape pushes forward making sirius flinch slightly. "i could do it you know, but why deny the dementors, they are so longing to see you."

sirius face falls and he starts backing away. "do i detect a flicker of fear, oh yes, the dementors kiss only one could imagine what that must be like to endure, its expected to be quite unbearable to witness but i'll do my best."

sirius gulps backing in to the piano in the room. "severus please" remus begs, looking terribly ill.

rubi feels a hand slip in to her back pocket making her shiver.

"after you." snape looks at the other four and gestures with his head to leave. rubi was going to walk over to help ron off the floor until harry walks forward with rubi's wand out in front of him,

"expelliarmus" harry shouts. snape goes flying to another part of the room and crashing to the floor.

rubi gasps, looking wide eyed at harry. why was that sorta hot? rubi thinks to herself. what kind of thought was that. she mentally slaps herself for even thinking that.

"harry, what did you just do!" ron blinks at harry. "you attacked a teacher."

"tell me about peter pettigrew" harry demands, pointing his wand both at lupin and sirius. why was rubi sorta feeling attracted to him at the moment?

"he was at school with us, we thought he was our friend." remus explains with his hands going all over the place.

"no pettigrew is dead, you killed him!"

"no he didn't, i thought so too until you mentioned seeing pettigrew on the map"

"the map was lying then!"

"the map never lies! pettigrew is alive, and he's right there!" sirius points to ron. rubi's eyes furrow and she looks over at ron backing up a bit with her eyebrows raised.

"me?! hes mental!" ron looks at rubi trying to explain himself. "not you! your rat!"

rubi looks over at sirius. "it makes sense, that rat was always suspicious to me, didnt like it anyways." she shrugs. ron looks over at her with a 'what the fuck' face.

sirius nods agreeing with rubi. "scabbers has been in our family for-."

"12 years! curious long life for a common garden rat, he's missing a toe isnt he." sirius walks closer to ron looking more eager. "so what?" ron grabs on to rat tighter.

"all that was missing of pettigrew was his-."

"-finger! the bloody coward cut it off so everyone would think he was dead. and then he transformed in to a rat!"

everything was clicking in rubi's head. it was making sense. "show me." harry demands, slowly lowering his hand.

sirius looks over at him nodding. he grasps the rat in ron's hands and tries to pull it away from ron. but he doesn't budge. "give it to him ron."

rubi takes matters in to her hands and mutters a spell under her breath. ron hisses in pain making him let go of the rat.

lupin notices and looks over at rubi. feeling him look at her, she looks at him. he smiles proudly at her knowing he taught her that spell.

she blushes looking away. "what are you trying to do to him, scabbers! leave him alone!" hermione pushes past rubi and grabs ron, pushing him down.

rubi walks over to harry, grasping his hand. without not even looking at her, he knew it was her.

sirius and remus nod at each other before putting the rat on top of the piano. the rat squirms away. remus and sirius struggle trying to hit the rat.

the rat starts heading to a hole and rubi tightens her hand on harry feeling a bit more nervous. remus and sirius right on time point their wands at the rat and the rat immediately becomes a person.

rubi looks wide eyed at the person stuck in the hole. sirius and remus quickly run over and pull him out of the hole.

the man squeaks looking down as if he was an actual defenseless rat. he was short, chubby, balding. she grimaced. how disgusting.

"remus, sirius. my old friends." he squeaks out before trying to push through them. the man looks around looking terrified, trying to find a way out.

he turns towards rubi and harry and exaggeratedly gasps. "harry! you look so much like your father! and you rubi! your the

right? can you still protect someone who isnt your ward-." sirius pulls him away from rubi and harry.

rubi blinks at him what the fuck did he meant by anima mate custos? and what the fuck was a ward?

"how dare you speak to harry! how dare you try to speak to harry in front of rubi, by her rights, she could bloody kill you in seconds!"

ok what the bloody hell are they talking about? rubi's thoughts were running wild. she was feeling so confused and frustrated.

"you sold james and lily to voldemort didn't you?" remus accuses with his wand pointed at pettigrew.

"i didn't mean to, the dark lord, you dont know what kind of weapons he possesses, sirius what would you have done, what would you have done" he cowers back in fear.

"i would've died, i would've died before i betrayed my friends" pettigrew starts crawling under the piano. rubi and harry run over to the door before he got to it.

pettigrew went running up rubi. "rubi, your ancestors promised to protect their wards, i can help you protect your ward i promise, please show me mercy-!" rubi looks at him disgusted as remus pulls him away from her.

harry grabs rubi's arm and puts her behind him possessively. "harry please, your father wouldnt have wanted me killed, he'd show me mercy, be like your father-."

"shut up!" sirius yells. pettigrew cowards away putting his arms up to his face. "should've realized it peter, if voldemort wouldn't have killed you then we would, together!"

"no!" shouted harry. rubi from behind him turns to look at the side of his face, while furrowing her eyebrows.

"harry...this man..." remus looks at harry with an appointed look. "i know what he is." he says breathing in deeply. "we'll take him to the castle."

pettigrew falls to his knees exaggeratedly. "bless you boy bless you-." suddenly a crack his heard. everyone turns to look rubi.

she had kicked him in the face, breaking his nose. "get the fuck off of him you filthy rat." she spat. he trembles holding on to his bloody nose.

"i like this girl." sirius breathes looking over at remus. remus lets out a breathy laugh and nods in agreement.

rubi smirks to herself satisfied. sirius sighs running a hand through his long hair looking completely exhausted.

remus bends down and grabs pettigrew aggressively. he points his wand at his cheek. pettigrew shakes in fear looking at remus.

rubi looks over at ron and hermione who are just basically smothering each other as they look at all five of them in fear.

rubi runs over and hugs them both. she sighs out in relief. "come on, we should get back to the castle and take you to the hospital." ron nods looking down at his leg.

"erm- ill take him, i promise i wont hurt you, you were only collateral damage- that came out wrong. but for hurting you, in apology ill take you up to castle." sirius says a bit awkwardly.

ron clears his voice and nods at him hesitantly. "ill help." harry says walking up them. sirius looks over at him and smiles. rubi moves over so they both could get ron.

they both pulled him up, going first out the door. "you dont need any help professor?" rubi asks lupin as he was forcing pettigrew to stand up.

he looks over at her. "no i can deal with him myself, thank you. you should catch up with sirius and the other three." he nods reassuringly at rubi.

she nods back, giving pettigrew one disgusted look she ran off to catch up to them.

when she did catch up to them, she saw hermione walking behind looking warily at sirius "sorry about the bite, i bet that it stings a bit."

"a bit? a bit?! you almost tore my leg off!" ron shouts out frustratedly. "i was going for the rat"he defends.

"normally i have a very short disposition as a dog. in fact more than once, james suggested that i make the change permanent. the tail i could deal with but the fleas they're murder" he lets out a breathy laugh.

rubi snorts right behind them. "well you are a dog, what did you expect? to get butterflies instead?" she taunts.

sirius laughs shaking his head. "you remind me of someone" he smiles. "who? your poodle girlfriend dog?" he cackles at that one. "your a bit of a bitch you know that?" he grins looking back at her.

she shrugs. "mum raised me right." he snorts shaking his head.

they reach the end of the tunnel and they climb out. sirius throws ron to the ground, ron groans in return. sirius rolls his eyes. "deal with it" he sassily says.

rubi burst out laughing as sirius chuckles walking away. she sits by ron breathing heavily. "you alright there ron?" rubi says looking over at her brother.

"yep, i feel like i could soar through the skies right now." he imitates wings and flaps them. she shakes her head looking at harry as he stares at sirius.

from the corner of her eyes she sees hermione sitting right next to ron and checking his leg as he blushes.

"go to him." harry turns to look at her with his eyebrows furrowed. "what?"

she rolls her eyes. "go to him, we'll be fine." she stands up and kisses his cheek. she pushes him a bit to give him a bit of reassurance.

he walks away. she stares at him for a minute before sitting back down at the ground looking at ron's leg.

meanwhile harry walks up to sirius and stands right next to him. looking at hogwarts. "its beautiful isnt it." sirius says.

harry looks over at him and nods. "i never forget the first time i walked through those doors. it'll be nice to do it again as a free man." he sighs happily.

"it was a noble thing you did back there. he doesn't deserve it." he looks over at harry smiling. "well i just think my dad wouldn't want his two best friends becoming killers, besides dead, the truth lies with him, alive, your free."

sirius nods agreeing. they hear pettigrew's loud yelling and they turn to see. "ron i was good friend a good rat, you wouldn't let them give me over to the dementors will you? i was your rat, you! clever girl you wont let the-."

remus pulls him away. "i swear to merlin lupin, i will murder that forsaken rat if he doesn't stop pleading for his life" rubi growls.

sirius smiles at her. "you like that girl dont you?" harry snaps his head towards him. "what?" harry chokes out.

sirius chuckles. "you potter men are so obvious with your crushes." he shakes his hear while smiling. "also whats with you guys and the red heads, i dont get it." he raises his eyebrow at harry.

harry blushes in return. "i like her, she's fiery reminds me of someone i knew." he says remembering the only girl whoever put james potter in his place.

"she's older than me, she'd never like me in return." harry runs a hand through his disheveled hair. sirius eyes widen. "she's older than you?" harry nods.

sirius burst out laughing. "you like older woman don't ya?" he grins, elbowing harry's side. "james would've loved hearing this."

harry smiles to himself. "age doesn't matter when it comes to love besides how older is she than you?" he questions.

"only two years" harry rubs his neck in embarrassment.

"two years? that's nothing, dated a girl who was 4 years older than me, james even fought over her with me for awhile but he got over it. he only had eyes for one woman for his whole life." sirius smiles at the memories with the maurders. where everything was easy.

something came to sirius's mind. "i dont know if you know harry, but when you were born, james and lily asked me to be your godfather."

"i know" sirius furrows his eyebrows. "oh, well id understand if you chose to stay with your aunt and uncle. but if you ever wanted a different home...." he trails off.

"i could live with you?"

"well id understand if you didnt want to."

"harry!" they spin around to see hermione pointing at the full moon. rubi's eyed widen, they snap towards remus. remus face falls when he notices the full moon.

"lupin!" rubi yells trying to run over to the man but sirius grabs her. "no! take these three and run!"

"no! hes my friend im not gonna leave him!" she squirms in sirius arms. "rubi listen to me! take harry, ron and hermione back to the castle please listen to me!" he yells.

suddenly remus starts yelling out in pain clutching his head. "remus my old friend!" sirius shouts letting go of rubi. "have you taken your potion tonight?!"

"you know the true man you are remus, this heart is where you truly live, this heart!" sirius grabs on to remus pointing at his chest. remus face starts becoming dark and long, his body starts growing even bigger.

his once comfy sweater starts ripping to shreds. his broad shoulders were becoming bulkier and his hands were becoming claws.

remus wand falls to the floor and pettigrew picks it up trying to throw a curse at them but before he could rubi shouts out, "expelliarmus!" the wand flies out of his hand in to hers.

he smiles creepily before shrinking in to a small rat. harry tries running forward but rubi grabs him making sure he didnt leave any further.

suddenly remus full transformation finishes, making sirius go flying down a hill of grass. remus starts whining. rubi slowly walks up to him, "what the bloody hell are you doing!" ron whisper yells.

"lupin? lupin can you hear me?" she says slowly taking a few steps. the werewolf looks up at her and lets out a howl. rubi stumbles back with her eyed widened.

the werewolf growls at her, walking forward. she immediately puts all three of them behind her. she looks at the werewolf terrified.

suddenly snape comes crawling out the hole and stumble up to them. "there you are potter!" he growls before lupin howls again.

snape turns around, protectively putting them four behind him. the werewolf raises his claws and tries to slash them. but snape pushes them back making them all fall to the ground.

the werewolf growls at the them. rubi in instinct, she covers harry from getting hurt. suddenly another growl comes out of nowhere. the dog pushes the werewolf down.

the black dog growls at him showing his big sharp teeth. the dog immediately stands in front of them while the werewolf stands on all fours looking at them in hunger.

they were having a stand off, both growling at one another. rubi grabs harry's hand and pulls him up with her. they watch as the both animals pounce at each other.

the both try biting each other. slobber being thrown all over the place. the werewolf over powers the dog a bit throwing it to the ground.

the dog cries out. the werewolf turns back to the others already licking its snout. but the dog gets back up, jumping back on the werewolf.

the dog runs away making the werewolf chase after him. "sirius!" harry yells letting go of rubi and running after them. rubi pushes snape away ready to follow harry but snape snatched her arm just on time.

"no let me go!" rubi yells pounding on snape's chest. "listen to me ms weasley! you are not running after them." snape growls at her.

"what dont you understand! its harry im not gonna just let him get hurt!" she growls back, still trying to push snape away. "ill make sure he wont get hurt! ill make sure, you go and take mr. weasley and ms. granger the hospital"

some tears fall of rubi's face in frustration and anger. "fine!" she pushes away from him and grabs hermione and ron.

she pulls them towards the castle. limping a bit because ron is still struggling.

after 10 minutes of trying to reach the castle they finally reach the hospital. "oh my!" madame pomphery exclaims im shock. "what happened?" she quickly helps putting ron on to a bed.

"its a long story miss" rubi sighs out.

"you want me to check on that cut on your head?" madame pomphery says while fluffing up rons pillow once again. rubi looks over at her frowning.

"what are you talking about?" rubi questions while touching her head. she feels the wet and sting on her head. she pulls back her hand and sees blood.

"i didnt know i was bleeding?" rubi says furrowing her eyebrows. "well good thing your here now, let me patch you all up, you look awful sweetheart" she says walking over to her small little cabinet.

suddenly the door slams open and snape comes walking in with a floating harry behind him. "another one? what happened out there." madame pomphery shakes her head.

"professor if you could just lay mr potter on this bed for me, it would be lovely." snape walks over to the bed and lays him there. rubi runs over and touches his face.

"hes freezing." rubi mumbles, she quickly covers him up with the duvet on the bed. she hesitantly lays herself right next to harry. she lays her head on his shoulder and falls slowly asleep.

"ms. weasley! i found some-." madame pomphery stops talking when she sees rubi asleep on harry. "she fell a asleep ma'am, i dont suppose you mind if i fall asleep in this chair by ron i suppose?" hermione gestures towards the boy who was sleeping as well.

pomphery nods hesitantly. she walks over to rubi and quickly patches her up, making sure not to wake her.

when she finishes up she leaves the room to let all four of them have a small nap with each other.
