─── chapter three
who would be the man or woman who gets to love me for the rest of their life? as kids we just kind of imagine the future on how it would end up for us. sometimes it wasnt even about if you would end up with your prince charming or princess. sometimes it was just if we would end up becoming something we've always wanted.
but our visions of the future always change through age. our inner child starts slipping away. but not rubi. she refuses to move on from fantasies and fun. it's what has always pushed her. the what if's has always pushed her to reach new heights.
thats what has always made rubi, rubi. her whole family knew rubi's imagination was bigger than any regular kid. it made her feel invincible and not afraid of anything.
so a stupid boggart is not gonna tell her what she is afraid of. she's not gonna let anything or anyone tell her she has a fear because she didnt.
"i want you to picture something that makes your fear's look like idiot's" the whole class laughs. rubi chuckles picking at her nails. she really liked this professor. its not everyday you meet a fun and kind teacher.
"please mr..." he waits for the best friend of the weasley twins answer. "lee jordan sir" he smiles while rubbing his hands together excitedly. the teacher chuckles nodding.
"well mr jordan, have your wand ready, once i open that door i want you to picture the thing you fear most." lee nods jumping up and down.
"wands at the ready, go" the door opens slowly. a cloaked figure appears from the closet. he slowly walks forward pointing his wand at lee.
lee's eyes widen, he quickly raise his wand. "riddikulus!" the cloaked figure immediately transformed in to an old woman with very sagged skin.
the whole class starts laughing. leanne walks up smiling. the old woman immediately turns in to a man. a man that was very familiar to rubi.
leanne's adoptive father.
he glares at her. "you ungrateful little slag, there's a reason why your parents are dead, because they'd rather die than ever gotten to know you" he hisses at her.
i see leanne's face look at him with pure sadness and fear. george tries to walk over to her but i grab him. he turns to look at me with his eyebrows furrowed and a frown plastered on his lips.
"she needs to realize herself that it's not him" rubi whispers. "druissela also left because she was ashamed of what she had to raise, i should have left you-"
"riddikulus!"
he transforms into a clown, he looks down at himself horrified. people start laughing but a bit uncomfortable because of the terrible words he was saying to her. but they also knew it was fake.
but what they didnt know was that he has said those words to her.
george smiles at her as she walks to the back. she smiles back weakly. "mr. fred weasley." lupin waves fred over to walk up to the boggart. "uh sir, you mean fred and george" he chuckles at the twins. "hey!"

they look back her. "what about me" rubi asks huffing. "you'll get your turn after" they roll their eyes at her. she frowns.
they turn back and they walk towards the boggart. the boggart acknowledges them and starts turning and suddenly there lays rubi on the floor.
but it doesnt look like the rubi behind them. this rubi had blood running down her lips, blood gushing out of her chest, dead. horror flashes their eyes a they see their soulmate, their twin, their bestfriend, dead lying on the floor.
rubi watches her dead self lye on the floor. their biggest fear was me dying? they both raise their wands before shouting riddikulus. her body becomes mini fireworks. everybody in the classroom cheers at the fireworks.
they turn to face their sister and they immediately rap her in to a hug. she hugs them back tightly. they let go of her and walk to the back to leanne.
she walks towards it and it immediately starts turning again. she gets ready to see george and fred's dead body. but instead its her sitting on the floor, hugging her legs, rocking back and forth.
"why cant i be without him, why cant i be without him, why cant i be without him, why cant i be without him" this lunatic version of herself keeps saying. she watches at this version rock back and forth, looking around horrified.
why was this her fear. she doesnt even know what this means. the other version looks up and looks at her right in the eye. and she sees it.
her fear was loving someone more than she loved herself, and him being the only one and thing to keep her sane.
but why was the boggart making it seem like its gonna happen?

"look who's coming" fred wiggles his eyebrows at me. i frown and i look towards his direction. cedric walks towards us smiling. "hey rub" he pulls me in a hug.
i take in his smell and i smile. he smells wonderfully. he lets go and grins. "hey twins" he waves at george and fred.
"hi ceddie" they mock my nickname for cedric. i look at them and i glare. cedric chuckles "its nice to see you boys. i wanted to talk ask you the thing i didnt get to ask you the other day."
he puts his hands in his pockets. "uh would you like to go to hogsmeade with me today? i wanted to ask you days earlier but you seemed busy so i didnt want to budge"
i grin widely "yes, yes id love to" i try not to gush at him. he grins back rubbing his neck, "great, well ill see you in about an hour." i nod my head.
he grabs my hand before kissing it again. "see you later rub" he turns and walks away. i watch as he leaves, dreamingly.
"see you later rub" george kisses fred's hand exaggeratedly. fred puts a hand on his forehead, cooing.
he 'faints' and falls in to george's arms. i flick them off. "RUBI!" i hear leanne gushing, running over to us. she throws her arms around me.
"cedric went to go tell his friends about asking you out and he was all happy about it, he was saying how he got the most gorgeous girl at school to go on a date with him"

she jumps up and down squealing. i laugh with my cheeks flustered. oh god, this is great, i never wanted a boyfriend but it's cedric diggory for merlin sake, ive had a crush on him since the day i met him.
"we have to go pick out your outfit, we have an hour so its more than enough time to get something quick yet beautiful." she pulls me away from george and fred.
"bye boys" i yell out to them and they chuckle at me waving. "-imagine your kids with him, people as pretty as you two, would make the most precious kids" she skips while pulling a smiley rubi.
"hi sister" i turn to see ron, hermione and harry. "hey guys." i smile at them three. "whats got you so giddy?" hermione asks me.
"nothing much, just that cedric diggory just asked me out." i giggle. "no way! you got pretty boy cedric to ask you out?!" ron says grinning.
"i didnt do anything to make him ask me out, he did it himself, not to mention he was nervous." i shrug, fluttering my eyelashes.
ron chuckles. "thats nice rubi" i look over at harry and he's smiling weakly at me. i grin "thanks harry" i rub his head.
"oh hey little weasley" leanne finally notices them as she skips through the crowd of kids. he glares at her "how many times do i have to tell you, stop calling me little weasley, ginny is the youngest." he huffs.
she rolls her eyes. "you'll always be little weasley to me ronnikins" he glares at her for the nickname. "ok we have to go now, i need to get ready for cedric" i giggle kissing ron's cheek before pushing his head.
"DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO PUSH MY HEAD!"
>>——————❀——————
i stare at myself through the mirror, playing with the short sleeves of my button up shirt. it was tucked in my plain black jeans with a belt wrapped around it.
i run my hand through my curled hair. trying the get a bit of a wave pattern. "hey, hey, hey!" leanne smacks my hands. frowning, i cross my arms over my chest. "i dont like my hair curled, i perfer it wavy."
she scoffs, still scrunching my hair with her hands delicately. i backed away, pushing her hands away. "oh for merlin sake! did you not hear me" i raise my hands frustratedly.
"you need something else than straight or wavy hair, it is annoying and boring seeing you with the same hairstyle everyday." how dare she disrespect my natural straight hair.
"dont mess with my hair anne, just because i dont wake up at 4 in the morning to do my make up and hair done, doesn't mean im terrible at fashion." i point my finger at her.
"YOU LITERALLY HAVE A 9 MINUTE SHOWER IN THE MORNING THEN YOU TAKE 10 MINUTES TO CHANGE, USE YOUR TOILETRIES AND PUT YOUR HAIR UP IN TO A BUN."
i shrug not really caring. "whatever, i like my hair how it is so deal with it" she huffs, finally backing down. i snicker and i throw my arm's around her, giving her a sloppy kiss on the cheek.
she pushes me away, scrunching her nose. "come on, im sure diggory is wondering where you are." she grabs my hand, dragging me along. i grab my wand and thin jumper from the table before we walk out the door.
i stumble down the stairs while leanne drags me not really caring if my feet are at the same pace as hers.
we reach the yard and i see him standing there with his hufflepuff jumper, looking around. leanne pushes me towards his direction. i turn back at her glaring. she smiles sheepishly.
"hi" i say putting my hands in my pockets. he turns to look at me and grins. "you look beautiful" i blush, looking down.
"please this is my normal attire, i just simply brushed out my hair better today" he laughs, putting out his arm for me to take.
he gestures me to take it. i nod hesitantly. i put my arm in his. "shall we m'lady" he smiles. i nod, giggling.
we walk towards hogsmeade, arm in arm, just appreciating each other's presence. some people look at us with raised eyebrows and wide eyes.
cedric assuming that i didnt see his friends from a distance, giving cedric thumbs up and kissy faces. i see him smiles to himself. "what are you smiling about ceddie"
i cock my head to the side to look at him clearly. "im just happy that i got the most gorgeous girl to go out on a date with me"
i grin. "who could've known cedric diggory was such a flirt"
>>—————❀—————
we spend the rest the day laughing and teasing each other. he ended up buying me a cupcake from madam puddifoot but as soon as we got our hot chocolate and cupcakes, we left.
that tea shop made us very uncomfortable. we ended up by a tree with a bench and we sat there talking and laughing.
from the corner of my eye, i could fred, george and leanne. staring at us and giggling like a bunch of idiots. i made eye contact with them, giving them a death glare.
all of their eyes went wide and they turned acting like if they never saw us. "your friend and your brothers were there, werent they"
i turn back to cedric chuckling, while grinning. i roll my eyes, taking a sip of my hot chocolate. suddenly i feel something smudge on my cheek
i gasp while turning to cedric. he laughs at me while holding his cupcake. i grab some of my frosting and i smear it right down his face.
i start laughing even louder, holding my stomach. "oh you asked for it" i stop laughing and i look at him for a second before running off with cedric on my trail, holding the rest of the frosting in his hand.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
8 258STEM: The Topical Dungeon
Inspired by CORE: The Volcanic Dungeon by Ace Arriande and a spiritual successor to my writing prompt series Evolution Barricade, STEM is a series following the reincarnation of Kaden into the fantasy world of Brogdar. Reborn as a "DM" and a plant, Kaden tackles the challenges of being the agent of the chaotic god: trying to be his very own dungeon master. However, unlike other stories, Kaden is often making fun of and dealing with disadvantages that the normal reincarnated hero would never have to worry about. A parody of the normal tropes of isekai, STEM is a periodic series that is intended to release a minimum of once per week. There may be times where there is more than one drop, but those would be special occasions. Additionally, the content tags are simply to try and ensure my readers know these stories can encompass a large variety of things. They may not immediately be in focus, but they will all end up appearing!
8 181Madness with a touch of sanity
A story from the point of view of madman, although they seem perfectly sane, the world will burn around them and only they will remain, and maybe some others too. This is one of my first published stories, hate it if you want, I probably will, but any advice will always be appreciated, if I can improve my writing I will be happy. Cover is temporary, royalty-free image, until I either create or commision someone to create a new one
8 195My Fantasy
The Story of a Peasant Boy named Edgar who despite all the hardships and tradegies that he had to go through still manage to rise to become the Hero of his own story. (So im not really sure where this is going but who cares its just for fun and do give me some feedback so I can fix my errors which I know I have plenty of) (Im gonna check all the Content Warnings in case I decide to explore some dark thoughts)
