Beep... Beep... Beep...

"She's fine—"

Beep... Beep... Beep...

"...just has a fever but she'll be—"

Beep... Beep... Beep...

God, what is that noise?

Where am I?

I slowly opened my eyes, a painful bright light coming from next to me making me quickly close them shut. I slowly turned my back on that light, flinching at the pain I felt all over my body.

What happened?

I tried opening my eyes again, this time being able to do so without being blinded. I blinked a few times, trying to get rid of my blurred vision. I was tired, both physically and mentally. I didn't remember where I was or what had happened. I closed my eyes again and tired to remember... But I just saw mostly darkness. I could still hear the sound of crashing waves in that unexplainable darkness and the loud rain hitting the ground.

I opened my eyes once more, this time there was no blur in my vision and I could see everything. I went back to laying on my back and carefully propped my elbows up on the soft material I was laying on, trying to sit up.

My body was in pain, especially my back and head. I leaned back on a pillow and stared at the room I was in. I could see by the machine next to me that was constantly beeping, and the dull blue and white walls and furniture, that I was in a hospital room.

It was only me in there, but I was certain that I had heard someone speaking.

I looked down at my hands, starting to remember everything again. I was walking in the rain, in the woods, in the dark. I was cold, to the point where everything had felt numb. A few minutes later, I was running away, running away from something. It had glowing red eyes, eyes that I have never seen before. They were bright and they looked like they would burn your flesh off if you touched them.

Someone was pulling on my wet clothes, telling me to run and never look back. She sounded so scared and called on God to save us.

Sarah

"Sarah!" I jumped up, my back stinging and my voice coarse. I laid back down, wanting the pain to subside. Oh my goodness, Sarah. I hoped she was alive and safe wherever she was.

I thought back to everything else that had happened. The water swallowing me, the boulder that saved me but nearly broke my back. The coldness. My cries that got silenced by the rain. The feeling of death creeping towards me as I closed my eyes.

The door opened, making me quickly turn to look at the person entering. It was a woman, a beautiful woman. She was dressed in her white doctors attire and her red hair was tied into a perfectly beat bun. She had a light toned face with red freckles messily scattered all over it, making her all the more beautiful. Her eyes were a brown-green.

"Good afternoon, it is good to see you awake." She said, walking towards me with a clipboard tucked under her arm. I looked to my left, seeing the orange sky and the sun slowly disappearing behind the buildings. Noon? I had been here for more than twelve hours.

"I'm sure you would like to know who brought you here but unfortunately he didn't leave his name." She explained to me, making me turn to face her.

"He said he found you on a boulder in the river and refused to say any more that that. He drove you here in your car. It's parked outside." She said with a smile.

"One of the government troops?" I asked her.

"Oh no dear, the officials weren't anywhere near the area you were in. If that man had not been there, you would've died there alone. You're a very lucky woman." She then checked on me and gave me medicine.

"You only have a fever because of the cold you were exposed to. I will give you painkillers for your back aches too." She said, staring at me like she had another question. I nodded at her to continue.

"I must ask, what were you doing in the woods alone? In your pajamas?"

Alone? Was Sarah not here?

"I- I was looking for someone." I mumbled.

"Well okay..." She said hesitantly. "It's just that the police wanted to speak to you earlier."

"What? Why?" I asked in shock. What did the police want from me? I didn't do anything wrong... Did I?

"Perhaps it's because you were in a closed down area with no permission. Or maybe for another reason that I don't know." She said, staring at me expectantly. What was she implying? That I was going to do something illegal in the woods?

"I have to tell them that you are awake. They decided to wait for you." She said, making my eyes widen. They're here? Right now?

She was about to leave but I stopped her, "what did you tell them?"

"Nothing, only that a man found you unconscious and brought you in." She said, walking out. I took a deep breath, calming down. I didn't do anything wrong so there was absolutely no need for me to panic.

A knock came on the door and two policemen entered. They greeted me and pulled the chairs next to me out and sat down. "Right, we would like to ask you a few questions."

"About what?"

"About where you were last night." They said. I nodded, waiting for them to interrogate me.

"Where were you and who were you with last night?"

"Don't tell him about Sarah..." Sei's voice suddenly spoke in my ear. It wasn't the shy voice, it was the one that had screamed at me yesterday and told me to stay in my car. It was the voice that I had ignored. If I had listened, I would not even be in hospital.

But why should I lie about Sarah?

"I was..."

Should I just tell the truth?

Why would Sei want me to lie?

"I was at work, by myself." I said, my heart beating faster. I just lied to the police, oh God I'm going to go to jail.

"Work? At midnight?"

"I didn't have a place to stay. If you have heard, the area near the woods was on lockdown. I couldn't access it and I had work to do anyways."

The police officers looked at each other in question, obviously not believing me. I should've told the truth.

"Do you have any alibis to confirm that you were at work at night?"

"Sei is an alibi..." his voice came again.

"Yes, there was someone who delivered an envelope to me around the time and I was with someone all night. The test subject you were told about in the news."

"How did you end up here then?" The cop asked.

Oh God...

"Robbery," Sei whispered in my ear. What!? That wouldn't make any sense. My car is outside and my luggage is at Damien's house. My slippers fell on the ground in the woods. This lie isn't going to work.

"Trust me..."

"I was robbed..." I said, making the one officer write down on a notepad.

"Can you describe what happened and where it happened."

"I... I don't remember. I passed out and woke up here. All my clothes are gone and I was left in my pajamas and in the rain. I don't know what happened to my car." I lied again, hoping that my face didn't scream guilt.

"Your car is parked outside, someone bought you here and called us, claiming to have chased the thieves away but couldn't salvage your luggage."

Wait what? Someone went along the thief story?

"Did he give you his name? I would like to thank him." I asked the cops as they stood up.

"He was in a hurry. His name did start with an S though, he had weird looking eyes. Grey with red dots and he had blue hair."

"Was his name Sei?" I asked lowly. To my surprise, they shook their heads.

"Oh yes! Silas, that's the name." He claimed.

Silas? Was that Sei's real name?

"Thank you, officer. I think I know who it is."

"Of course, we'll find those thieves. Don't you worry about a thing." They walked out after that, leaving me in shock. They had no idea that I was in the woods, but they could find out soon. That doctor... She didn't tell them everything either. I wonder why.

"Sei— Silas?" I called out, hoping to receive answers to my questions.

"What, human?" He growled at me, making me grimace.

"What's going on? Where's Sarah? Why did I just lie to the police?"

"It was either you lied or went to jail."

"Jail?"

"Listen here, you did not go to Sarah's house. She was never in your car. You never went to the woods. Do you understand? She did that all by herself."

"I don't understand, why can't I tell the police that? Why would I go to jail?"

"Because it would make you look guilty."

"Guilty of what?" I asked. I was confused.

"Guilty of murdering Sarah."

"She's dead, human."
