《Their Human》Chapter twelve: "are you human?"

"He's not human, is he?"
I picked up the remote and opened the wall. I wanted to ask Sei that and hear his response. Maybe, if he decided to lie, I would be able to see through it. Or maybe, he would tell the truth.
Just as I suspected, his pale skin was back along with his longer greyish blue hair. I saw him shirtless and in black boxers. He was sitting on the floor with his back against the side of the bed, his head thrown back.
"Sei." I called him, stepping closer to the wall. He snapped his head up and looked at me with shocked eyes. Looks like he hadn't heard me entering after all.
"Scientist..." He said softly, brushing through his soft curls with his fingers, trying to push them back. "You here? Why?"
"I was supposed to receive some results, I'll be leaving in a few minutes." I told him, "who were you talking to?"
"H-huh?" He asked, looking like a deer caught in headlights. He was genuinely confused about me being here and even more shocked that I had heard him talking.
"Who were you talking to? I heard you."
"O-oh, Sei just talking to Sei." He said, laughing softly. He looked down and crossed his legs. "Sei didn't mean to scare scientist."
"You didn't scare me. I just thought that you weren't okay." I explained to him. He nodded, shyly looking up at me through his long eyelashes.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes," he agreed, lifting his head up and tilting it.
"Are you human?"
"No." He simply answered, like it was common sense. There was silence between us for a few seconds, no one talking.
"And you didn't think to tell me!" I asked him in bewilderment. He pouted his lips and looked down again, his hair falling on his face and blocking me from seeing him.
"Sorry..." He said in a sad whisper.
Oh please don't do that, now I feel bad.
I sighed deeply and lifted the glass wall up, making my way to him. He wasn't chained up but he didn't seem like much danger at the moment. In fact, he looked scared of me. I sat down next to him on the floor, respectfully keeping my distance although, a part of me wanted to close that distance.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh. I just wish you let me know sooner." I explained, looking at him.
"Sei couldn't, plan would be ruined." He mumbled.
"Plan? What plan?" I asked him, making him look up at me. To my surprise, he shifted closer and laid his head on my shoulder, once again fiddling with my clothes. It was my lab coat this time, he was playing with the buttons. He deeply inhaled, sighing softly afterwards. "Roses," he whispered, making my breath hitch. He was smelling me.
"There's a lot of things I need to ask you, Sei. I just never get time to do so." I told him.
"Tomorrow, there will be time." He answered, closing his eyes.
Why tomorrow? He did mention something about going somewhere tomorrow. Was he planning to escape?
"They'll catch you..." I told him, staring into nothing. "Don't escape."
He didn't tell me that he was escaping, but I needed to warn him just in case he wanted to try.
He laughed quietly at my statement, lifting his head up from my shoulder and looking into my eyes. I didn't feel weird or uncomfortable near him. It was like I wanted to be close to him. There was a comfort I felt near him, a type of warmth that engulfed my body.
I was kind of drawn to him, physically.
"They can't catch me even if they tried." He said, still laughing. That had to be the best sentence he's ever said. The grammar and pronunciation of words was perfect. I almost wanted to congratulate him but didn't want to change the topic.
"Then why are you still here?" I asked him. He just looked at me as if I was supposed to know the answer. When he saw that I didn't, he just smiled and shook his head. "I will go tomorrow."
"They'll find and hurt you."
"I kill them."
"Sei..."
He pressed his finger on my lips, keeping me from finishing my sentence. Honestly, I didn't know what to say to him. All I knew was that I didn't want him to go. He was risking his life.

"We will come get you when everything done." He said, unexpectedly kissing my forehead.
I was about to ask him what that was about when his eyes started glowing, making me move back in shock. They glowed blue, a light blue that looked similar to the sky or the ocean during the day. He looked up, nodding as if he was agreeing with something.
"Kill them..." He growled, shocking me. His eyes soon went back to their normal grey and red. He looked at me apologetically, "sorry... May Sei be alone?"
Say no more.
I quickly got up and hurried out of his area, shutting both walls down. I didn't know what just happened, especially since too many things happened at once. My heart was, once again, hammering painfully in my chest. What he did with his eyes, it didn't scare me but it did certainly catch me off guard.
I didn't know why that didn't scare me, his eyes were glowing blue! But the big question here was:
Why were his eyes glowing blue!?
"I need to sleep." I said, grabbing my things. He spoke about killing... Who was he talking to? Why kill them? How? Where? When? So many questions.
I ran out of my lab and out of the building, getting hit by the cold drops of rain. I ignored it all, focused solemnly on the idea of getting away from this place. Seeing Damien's fiancé didn't even faze me anymore, not after all that I have witnessed since subject MM2077 came into my life.
This is what you asked for, I told myself, forcing myself to smile.
My gut told me that something much bigger than this storm was coming, and I wasn't at all prepared for it.

I pulled over at the address Damien had texted me a few hours ago. I have never been to his place before, so I wasn't entirely sure if it was the correct one. I couldn't see much because of the rain either.
The building was way outside my area, being situated deeper into the city. There were a bunch of cars, very little trees, crowds of people walking around the place. It was alive, even at this time of the night and that was a foreign thing for me as a person who lived in a more open and foresty area.
Damien lived in an apartment complex. It was tall, had around six floors and it was a rectangular, brick building. There was nothing special about it, just an apartment. It had lights outside and the streetlights helped me get a small view of it. I couldn't see much detail after that.
I drove through the already open gate and parked at an available parking space. I got out of the car and quickly got my suitcase, locking my car and heading to the front entrance.
I stepped into an area that looked like a lobby. There were couches lined up next to each other and at one end of the room, there was a long counter that had a woman sitting behind it, tapping on a computer. I walked to her while looking around. The place was clean and very cosy, which gave me an impression that Damien's apartment must be too.
"Hello," I greeted. "Do you know where Damien Moretti lives?"
She looked up at me, popping a piece of gum before asking, "You are?"
"I'm Akielia Rutherford, Damien is letting me stay with him and his fiancé for a few days." I explained.
She nodded and gave me Damien's apartment floor. That's all? Didn't she need to call them to check in? Didn't she find it strange that a woman came at night wanting to go to his place? She didn't care?
Security here isn't so good.
I went to the elevator, not wanting to take the stairs. Damien only lived at the second floor but I still preferred the lift. When I got there, I walked down the hall and saw the door with the number the lady had given me.
Here we go.
I knocked on the door, preparing myself to officially meet the woman of the man I've been secretly sleeping with.
What could possibly go wrong?
