《Watch Me ✔️》Chapter 18

I woke up on the rug the next morning to the curtains being opened, my body sore from sleeping on the floor.
"Good morning, how'd you sleep?" Michelle asked.
"Fine," I said, holding my head between my hands.
"Coffee?" Michelle offered. I looked up and she had the coffee maker already going, the smell growing stronger as I inhaled its magical scent.
It had been officially 24 hours of being in this cabin with her. I had to get out.
"Could I come to the table?" I asked, trying to be as nice as possible.
"Of course, if you promise to be good I'll let you free of the cuffs, since your wrists are still hurt. My heart sailed, it was exactly what I wanted.
"Yes that would be great," I said. Michelle came over and unlocked my ankle. I stood up slowly and stretched my body. I couldn't give away my plans, so I walked over to the table and sat down obediently.
"I think I'll make some eggs for us, does that sound alright?" Michelle asked turning away from me.
"I could put some bread in the toaster to go with it," I offered. Michelle nodded, so I got up slowly and headed for the cabinets. I took mental notes of my options as I moved through the kitchen. The utensils drawer where the knives were was locked and the keys to the front door were in Michelle's sweatpants.
"The butter is in the fridge," Michelle said, jolting me from staring at her pants.
"Thanks," I said. I put the first pieces of bread in and got some plates out.
"Could you unlock the drawer? I need a knife to butter the toast," I said.
"Of course, just give me one second," Michelle responded. I watched her closely as she pulled the keys out and unlocked the drawer. She handed me a butter knife, one that was small and wouldn't do any damage. I took it with a smile and thank you and turned back towards the toaster.
Once we had our breakfast at the table, Michelle asked if I wanted to do anything in particular that day.
"Could we go down to the lake? It looks so beautiful from the windows," I said hopeful.
"Maybe tomorrow," she said. I sighed and looked around the cabin. There wasn't much to do.
"Could we watch the news?" I asked, maybe there would be something about me on it.

"Why? That's so depressing," Michelle replied.
"We could have a repeat of last night," she said, leaning over towards me.
"Oh, umm let's play a game?" I said trying to distract her. Memories of the night before surfacing and causing a slight panic in my voice.
"What kind of game?" She asked intrigued.
I let out a sigh of relief and said, "Did you bring any board games or cards?"
"No I didn't," Michelle said, "next time I go to the store I'll get us some cards."
"Okay, how about a question game? Like we used to play when we first started dating," I said.
"A question game? Okay, I'll go first!" Michelle said excited.
"What's your favorite thing about me?" She asked.
"Oh, probably your cooking," I said honestly.
She nodded, "Your turn."
"If you were stranded on an island, what one thing would you bring with you?" I asked.
"You silly, so at least we could be together," I tried to smile at her answer, but the idea of being stuck on an island stressed me out even more than the current predicament.
"What's your favorite memory of us?" She asked.
I took a moment and thought about it. All of our memories together weren't bad, but I was having a hard time thinking of a happy memory in the current moment.
"Spring Break, when we took that road trip to Nashville, I loved the city," I said, then added, "and I got to spend it with you."
"That was a good trip," She said.
I leaned back and waited for her to ask another. I had a few questions I wanted to ask about her taking me that could help me plan better for my escape.
"This is getting boring, let's do something else," Michelle said. It took everything in me not to jump up and strike her, but I couldn't.
She got up and walked over to me, "how about we take that walk down to the lake?"
I nodded enthusiastically, thankful she was bored easily.
"I'm going to take a shower first, you'll be good for me right babe?" She asked.
I nodded and said, "of course."
"Good, I'll be back before you know it," she said, then kissed me. I let her and kissed her back slightly trying to reassure her. She seemed satisfied after and gave me a little wink. She went into the bedroom as I moved myself to sit on the couch.

Suddenly, I realized she would be taking off her pants, making the keys easy to get to. I waited to hear the shower start to run. This was the moment I'd been waiting for all day, then I headed into the bedroom.
Her pants and the keys were nowhere to be found in the bedroom, meaning they were in the bathroom. I opened the door as quietly as I could and saw them sitting on the bathroom counter waiting for me.
Michelle was singing to herself as I reached forward for them.
"Leilani, is that you?" Michelle asked. I froze.
"Yes, I just umm, missed you," I lied, not sure if she would buy it.
"Oh did you? Well why don't you come join me?" She asked, then peeked her head out from behind the curtain. I was trapped, I couldn't say no because she'd think it was suspicious. I took a deep breath and nodded, starting to take off my clothes. Just more of making her happy I told myself, then I'd try again.
After our shower, Michelle dried her hair then went into the bedroom to get dressed in new clothes for the day. I followed her out and did the same, dressing in jeans and a tank top.
I noticed the keys weren't with her and I realized they must still be in the bathroom. The moment was here and I had to take it. Michelle was distracted with putting on her makeup in the dresser mirror, so I went into the bathroom casually to get them.
I held the keys tightly against my stomach so they wouldn't make any noise and took a step outside the bathroom. She wasn't looking at me, so I kept moving towards the front door. I had gotten halfway across the room at a normal pace when I was caught.
"Leilani," I froze at the sound of my name.
"Michelle," I replied, turning to face her. She was leaning against the bedroom door frame, her makeup looking flawless and done, I had underestimated the time it would take her and this plan was not working out the way I wanted. The front door was in my reach, but I couldn't unlock it with enough time before she grabbed me.
I had to come up with a new plan quickly or I'd be back in those cuffs.
"What do you think you're doing with those keys?" She asked, her eyes looking directly at the keys in my hand. I had tried to keep them hidden, but they were peaking out slightly.
"You left them in the bathroom, I was just returning them to you," I said calmly taking a small step backwards towards the front door.
"I don't believe you honey," she said. I gulped and took another step backwards. She moved
herself from against the door frame and moved towards me.
"Stop," I said to her, she paused.
"Or what?" She said teasing me, a smile forming on her lips.
I looked around frantically and saw the ankle cuff on the floor only a foot from me. If I could get her over there I had a good chance of getting that on her and getting out of this cabin.
She took another step closer and I side stepped towards the rug. She looked at me with a confused look as I moved away from the door.
"Just give me the keys like a good girl," she said. I shook my head and took another step.
Suddenly she rushed me and I rolled myself onto the floor. She wasn't expecting me to drop and she tripped over herself and fell face first into the rug. I straddled her quickly, putting the keys down on the couch above her reach, and grabbed for her wrists.
She yelled profanities at me as I got her wrists in my hands and yanked her arms behind her back. I didn't have anything to tie them with though so I just held them as best I could while I reached for the cuff. I grabbed it, luckily it was already open and closed it down around her ankle.
Then I grabbed the keys and tried to jump off her as best I could, but she grabbed ahold of me and I fell hard, knocking my head against the couch arm and I felt the keys sliding out of my hand. She pulled me back away from the keys and I felt myself starting to blackout from my fall.
I heard the keys jingle above me and I tried to keep my eyes open, but darkness was overwhelming and I passed out.
