《Nefarious | ✓》chapter three

Scarlett swayed her hips to the music and bit her bottom lip one more time as she approached him. She knew what she was doing, she always did. She had mastered the art of seduction a long time ago, during her junior year in college to be exact and within seconds, she could have men, groveling at her feet.
She liked the feeling it gave her.
The power that she had over them.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and came in close contact with him; he didn't move when she leaned in, her breath fanning his ear.
"Hey handsome," she seductively said.
The stranger placed his free hand on her waist and pulled her in closer until Scarlett's palms rested against his chest. She took in the scent of his cologne; it was musky with a slight touch of sandalwood.
"Hey gorgeous," he had mumbled in response.
Leaning back and boring her eyes into his again, Scarlett smiled, "Do you come here often?"
She noticed a smirk form on his face, "Only to find pretty girls like you."
Scarlett merely brushed off the compliment without thinking twice, "How about a dance?"
"I would love too."
He placed his drink down on the nearest table and grabbed Scarlett by the hand. In a few seconds, he had led her to the center of the dance floor, where they were surrounded by other bodies. It was sweaty and hot in the middle but Scarlett didn't mind, not the tiniest bit, especially since the way he was looking at her like he was ready to devour her.
He quickly spun her around, his hands reaching for her waist one more time before he pulled her in. His chin rested on her right shoulder and Scarlett tilted her head back, resting it against his left shoulder. It wasn't long before their bodies moved together in sync with the beat of the music.

"I'm Nolan, by the way," he whispered into her ear.
At the moment, Scarlett didn't care what his name was, it could've been Bob for all she cared, she was just enjoying herself— enjoying the way he felt pushed up against her.
"Scarlett," she mumbled back, her eyes closed as she continued to sway to the music.
One song had passed, and then two, and then three but Scarlett didn't want to leave, just yet.
Removing his hands around her waist, she spun around to face him. She then lifted his arms and placed his hands back in their rightful position.
"Do you want to head upstairs, maybe, somewhere a little quieter?"
Nolan didn't deny her request.
He grabbed her by the hand again, as he had done last time, and headed towards the staircase that was intricately placed in the far left corner of the club. Scarlett pushed past the people from the dance floor, random hands gliding across her body and touching her in all the inappropriate places.
From what Scarlett could remember, the upstairs had a few booths and unknown washroom that was mainly used by staff. Her realization of how frequently she visited Prism dawned on her and she resisted the urge to chuckle.
As she climbed up the metal black, spiraling stairs, with Nolan ahead of her, Scarlett scanned the crowd to see if she could spot Penelope anywhere.
Unfortunately, she didn't.
It was much quieter upstairs than it was downstairs. The booths were less occupied since the majority of the visitors wanted to be right where the action was. Nolan took a seat at one of the empty ones and with a single tug, pulled Scarlett into his lap.
She didn't mind the gesture.
"So, tell me about yourself, Nolan," she casually asked, looping her arms around his neck as she stared at him intently.

"What do you want to know, Scarlett?" he teased back, his eyes dancing across her face and finally resting on her lips.
As the conversation drifted from topic to topic, with Nolan occasionally skimming his fingers over Scarlett's bare thighs, she couldn't help notice that he was nice.
But, it was nice in an odd way.
She could not pinpoint a moment where he had done anything negative or had said anything negative to someone else or to her within the conversation. It was as if he had no flaws to show and that part made Scarlett curious.
It made her wonder what he was really hiding if he, in fact, was hiding something, and how dark it might have been.
If it had been someone else, they might have been alarmed but, Scarlett no, she was intrigued, to say the least.
His lips brushed against Scarlett's neck as she was mid-sentence and she knew what he was attempting to imply. He had enough of them talking and he wanted something more, something physical that he could latch onto and she wasn't disagreeing.
"Maybe," she started off as he continued to kiss her neck, "Maybe, we can head back to your place? For some real, quiet time?"
His eyes snapped upwards and he leaned his head back, a devilish smirk formed on his lips indicating that he very much liked that statement that escaped her lips.
"I thought you would never ask," he replied.
Scarlett pried herself off his lap but she could tell that he didn't want her to get off that easily. As he lifted himself up from the booth, his fingers traced along her wrist and up towards her forearm, tickling her skin underneath.
The very way he looked at her told Scarlett that he would have her right there if he could.
She wouldn't have minded.
This time, it was her turn to lead the way. She tugged on his hand and made her way back down the staircase. The music continued to vibrate the walls of the club and people continued to lose themselves in the tempo; Scarlett was positive that it was nearly 2:00 AM, but that was what she loved about New York City.
It was the city that never slept.
Her eyes fell towards the bar and she noticed Penelope standing there, with David right beside her. Scarlett rolled her eyes but did not make the initiative to intervene. She waited until Penelope glanced over at her and when she did, she gave her the indication.
She pointed at Nolan, who was staring at the bright screen of his cell phone and pointed at the exit doors of the club.
Scarlett merely waved a hand and Penelope nodded her head in return.
Now, the real fun was going to begin.

Ursus Ex Machina
Ozzy was a man of the wild. Raised in a remote village atop the world's mightiest mountain, he'd been taught to respect and revere the natural world. The realm he was born into had been there long before him, and it would remain there long after him. Sure, there was the occasional madman who threatened to destroy it, but such boasts were always empty. No one individual was actually capable of demolishing this beautiful blue-and-green ball Ozzy called home. No matter what terrible magics these villains wielded, they were incapable of causing permanent harm to the environment. Even if the planet was completely devastated, it would recover. Life would find a way to flourish, same as it always had. That was what Ozzy believed from the bottom of his heart, so he never once felt the need to save the world he loved. After all, it was never truly in danger. The world would be fine no matter what. The people were a wee bit endangered, but that was another story altogether. However, what would happen if Ozzy suddenly found himself devoid of his beloved wilds? What would the man do if the realm he knew - one of wonder, magic, and chaos - was replaced with a man-made environment of concrete, industry, and steam? Ozzy could never imagine such a thing happening, and yet that was his new reality. After losing a fateful confrontation with a mad wizard, he and his friends found themselves transported to a strange world so thoroughly alien that every waking moment feels like a fever dream. Separated and scattered to the four corners of this land, each of these adventurers will need to adapt, survive, and overcome if they hope to reunite. They would also need to do so quickly. The sooner they are able to find one another, the sooner they can figure out a way back home and have another crack at putting an end to the villain's plans. Whether such a thing was actually possible in a world with barely any magic in it was a valid concern, but Ozzy had more immediate things to worry about. For instance, why did the air smell like a perpetual forest fire? How did ships sail through the sky as if it were water? And most importantly, was the pavement he was hurtling towards at high speed much softer than it looked? Probably not, but a man could hope.
