《Fall》Chapter Five

Annie knocked on the door of Eren and Mikasa's house and waited for someone to answer.
"Who is it?" Eren's voice asked.
"It's Annie...I'm here to help Mikasa with the project in English." She said hugging her arms.
There were some foot steps then the door opened. Mikasa stood there wearing a blood red shirt with a leather jacket and her scarf. "I told you to call before you came over." She said harshly stepping aside to let the girl in.
"Sorry, your highness, I forgot." Annie curtsied at "your highness".
It's written on the back of the paper with my address along with my phone number." She crossed her arms.
The blonde girl rolled her eyes, "Whatever. Hey where's your kitchen? I'm starving." Annie looked around the living room. It looked pretty nice. Much better than her house, much nicer.
"Over here." Mikasa said guiding Annie to the kitchen. Annie followed the dark haired girl to the kitchen. "This is it." She said once they got there, "Help yourself to whatever, Just clean up afterwards. I'll be upstairs in the room to the left." She said leaving the kitchen.
Annie looked through the fridge. She took out a few things to make a sandwich. While she made her snack she thought about her plan after this.
She couldn't go home...her father would be furious. Mikasa wouldn't let her stay here and she didn't have any other friends. She could go see if Reiner would let her stay, she could just tell him parents she was helping with the project. But be already had a partner so that wouldn't work.
A tear rolled down Annie's cheek. Her dad wasn't going to take any excuses to as why she skipped out on training. If he lashed out last time she was late, he'd do the same this time.

"Are you crying?" Eren's asked from the doorway. Annie quickly whipped the year away, "No." She finished making her sandwich and put everything back.
She grabbed her snack and pushed past Eren and made her way upstairs. "Room to the left..." Annie said to herself. She turned left and walked into Mikasa's room without knocking.
Mikasa was lying on her bed with her laptop. She had changed into a black tank-top and red shorts. Annie tried to to stare at her.
"Knock next time. I could have been changing." Mikasa snapped.
"We're both girls, not like it would matter." She inside, closing the door behind her. She sat on an office chair and spun around in it, "So, what should we work on first?" She asked.
Mikasa looke surprised at the blonde, "Oh, you're actually here to do work?" She asked very serious.
"Duh. I'm not going to fail a creative writing." Secretly Annie loved creative writing. Everyone thought she was a lazy writer but she normally put her heart and soul into her writing.
"Hm...okay. Well, we should definitely figure out the plot, then the characters. And remember it only has to be 5 pages long." Mikasa sat up on her bed and leaned against the frame.
-----
A few hours later, Mikasa and Annie had the plot figure out and two of the main characters. But that was about it. It was a pretty good start, they only got into 3 arguments all of which Eren could hear from down stairs.
Mikasa closed her laptop and stretched, "You better be getting home. You're parents will start to worry." Annie's heart sank, "Yeah...my dad especially." She said sadly. Mikasa noticed the sadness in her voice but didn't bother to say anything.

Annie got up and left the room without saying bye. She walked down stairs and grabbed her stuff. All the lights except one hall lamp. She walked out the door closing it behind her.
Everything was telling Annie to not go home. Her heart, her brain, they screamed at her to just go somewhere else. But she didn't listen. She slowly walked to her house. Maybe if she walked slowly enough, her dad would be asleep and she wouldn't have to deal with him. While she was walking she pulled her phone out of her bag and turned it on. 5 missed calls from her father. One that was only 10 minutes ago...she swallowed and looked behind her at the Jaeger household. The light in Mikasa's room went dark. She turned back around to her phone. She turned it back off and shoved it into her bag. 'Just keep going' she told herself.

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
