《Regretting And Rejecting》Chapter 21

Hannah

Griffin and I were surrounded by at least twelve rogues, all of them snarling and stinking like rotting flesh. Griffin tried to stand in front of me protectively, but he and I both knew that even he couldn't take on this many at once.

'Shift.' I told him and we both jumped, landing on our paws.

It had been a long time since I had seen Griffin's wolf and the brown monstrosity somehow looked like even it was on steroids. I had never seen so much muscle on a wolf and I was hoping that would translate to strength while still maintaining some speed because these rogues were lean, meaning they were fast. My light brown wolf shook out her fur and puffed out her chest, giving the illusion of confidence.

Which in all honesty wasn't that misplaced. Both of my parents are fierce warriors. I got my mom's speed and agility mixed with my father's quick thinking. I could use some work on the brute force front, but my lean frame allowed me to be faster which mixed with quick decision making is more lethal than strength a lot of the time.

'We only need to stall them until Micah gets here. He'll be here soon.' I link Grif and see him nod, not taking his eyes off the closest wolf.

We stand back to back and twirl in a slow circle, snarling and nipping at any one wolf that gets too close. A young one makes the poor decision of leaping at Griffin, only to have his throat ripped out in a half a second.

'One down, way too fucking many to go.' He says as he licks the blood from his snout while snarling.

'Micah?' I ask him nervously.

'Almost there, Hannah where are you?' He asks.

'North side of the packhouse.' I tell him and I can hear him panting in my mind. 'Don't tire yourself out. We'll need your help.'

'I'll never be too tired to kill for you, sweetness.' He says with a cocky lilt and I almost huff out a laugh.

A rogue senses that I'm distracted and lunges for me. I sweep my paw up, trapping him under it before extending my claws and ripping through his neck. I hear him gargle his last breath and let out a howl of victory.

'Hell yeah, baby. Keep it up.' Micah coos in my mind and my heart flutters that he's close enough to hear me, but the excitement doesn't last long as the remaining rogues descend on us.

Luckily they're sloppy and not well trained. Too many come at us at one time and they push each other out of the way, taking them off balance and making them easier to take down. I rip through fur, muscle and bone, chomping on everything that smells like shit. That's the only way I can keep from attacking Griffin. I'm not paying attention to what he's doing, but I know he's getting the brunt of the attack. His larger size signaling a bigger threat. I hear him let out a pained howl and turn to see a rogue on his back, ripping the flesh from his right shoulder.

I jump on the rogue and sink my teeth into it's neck while clawing it's soft belly adamantly. It let's go of Griffin trying to get to me, and Griffin turns in time to rip it's neck out. Turning around left my back exposed and I felt the teeth of a rogue latching on to my back left leg. I howled in pain as he pulled back, then heard the sickening crunch of my bone as he ground his teeth down on it. I snarled at him and kicked him in the face with my other foot. Griffin landed on him a second later and he was dead before he hit the ground. I pushed myself up on to three paws, my left leg hanging limply at an awkward angle. It stung like a bitch, but I tried to ignore the pain as another rogue came at me. I was about to dodge him when a large grey wolf landed on his back, ripping his spine out with his teeth.

The familiar green eyes met mine and relief flooded through me.

'I got you, Hannah. Stay beside me.' He says bumping his forehead with mine before pushing me in between he and Griffin.

There are only a few left, and I help the boys where I can, clawing and biting when the rogues try to climb them.

'Not all of them are rogues. Some are pack wolves. From another pack.' Griffin says as he sniffs the air. Micah snarls and the two of them circle around me as I limp on three legs. A few more wolves try to attack, but Griffin and Micah take them down easily.

I'm not sure how long the battle lasts, but eventually Alpha Mike lets out a victory howl signaling the fight is over, and that his pack won. His wolves join in the howl, but I collapse onto my belly, whining at the pain in my leg. Micah is next to me in an instant, licking feverishly at my wound.

He continues to lick until my leg is almost healed and completely numb.

'It's good, baby. You can stop.' I tell him. His head perks up to look at me after I let the endearment slip and he cocks his head to look at me curiously. I huff at him and he chuckles in my mind before sticking his snout in my neck and breathing deeply.

'God damn I missed you, sweetness. Can you walk behind that tree and shift?' He asks motioning to a nearby tree. I stand and hobble over where Griffin has already shifted. He hands me the shirt Micah stuffed in my bag before I left and I shift, unable to stop the cry of pain in my leg.

"Hannah?" I hear Micah's voice and it sounds so much better in person. I slip the shirt on and try to stand, but it hurts too much.

"Micah, I can't stand on it." I call to him and he rounds the tree and lifts me on to his lap, sitting on the forest floor.

"It's back to Micah already? I liked the 'baby' thing." He smirks and I roll my eyes but can't stop my smile.

I wrap my arms around his neck and tuck my face into his chest, relishing his smell and warmth. I gasp in shock as I feel faint sparks trace up my arms.

"What? Are you ok? Did I hurt you?" He asks and I shake my head.

"No. The bond is just stronger." I tell him and he gives me a wide beaming smile. I lean back down to rest on his shoulder and he tightens his arms around me, taking in lungfulls of my scent and peppering kisses along my head. I could sit like this for days if he would let me.

The relief of being reunited with him as well as surviving the fight takes over and suddenly my eyes are flooded with tears.

"Hey hey what's wrong, sweetness?" He asks worriedly. I shake my head as he wipes away my tears before burrowing back into his chest.

"I'm so glad you're here." I whisper and he sighs, tightening his grip on me and pressing his lips firmly to my temple.

"I'll always be here when you need me." He murmurs and I look into his eyes, seeing nothing but honesty.

I cup his cheek and he leans into my touch, closing his eyes and smiling. The sight makes warmth flood through me.

"Micah." I say his name and his eyes pop open, searching mine.

"Yeah?" He asks, eyeing me expectantly.

Rather than say anything, for once I let my actions speak. I lean forward and press my lips against his. They are warm, soft and feel so damn good. I hear him gasp in surprise, before he kisses me back, threading his fingers through my hair and tracing his tongue along my lips. I open for him, and moan into his mouth when our tongues collide. Sparks lick my body as I come alive for him in a way I know no other man could make me. I readjust on his lap, trying to get a better angle to deepen the kiss, but the movement jostles my leg and I hiss out in pain. Micah breaks the kiss and looks at me worriedly.

"No I wasn't done." I whine and he chuckles, pecking my lips gently before pulling away.

"I will do that as much as you want, after we get your leg checked out." He says gently, pressing his lips to mine again for a firm kiss before standing, carrying me in his arms. I let my head rest on his shoulder as he carries me to the pack hospital. The doctor checks me out quickly and said my mate did an excellent job of caring for my wound and it will heal quickly.

Micah's chest puffs in pride at that and I can't help but chuckle.

Alpha Mike finds us on our way to our car and Micah snarls a little.

"I'm so sorry. I honestly did not think they would attack. Are you alright?" He asks, his eyes flitting between the three of us.

"My mate almost lost her leg. Luckily I was here to help her." Micah snarls and the Alpha's eyes go wide.

"Your mate?! Why didn't you tell me?" He asks and Micah growls low.

"It doesn't matter. We're leaving." He says firmly and turns to tuck me into the car.

"Are you sure? It's very late and you all must be exhausted." Mike says and Micah shakes his head.

"We'll be fine. Goodbye." He says with finality before sliding in next to me and pulling me onto his lap as Griffin cranks the engine and speeds towards the pack boundary.

"Aren't you tired, Grif?" I ask him worriedly and he grunts.

"I don't care how fucking tired I am. We're getting away from that creepy ass pack if it's the last thing I do." He says and I can't stop the laugh from bubbling out of me. I look over at Micah who is smiling at me with warm affection.

I lean down to rest my head on his shoulder, tucking my face into his neck so I can smell him.

I don't care where we're going, as long as I can stay just like this.
