《Hidden Riches》Chapter 27

Logan has been in the hospital for two weeks. He had been released today. He broke a few ribs and his ankle was sprained. I haven't seen him at all those past two weeks. Once I approached the hospital, I just couldn't go in. I knew his parents were inside with him because the paparazzi were everywhere outside the hospital. Everyone wanted to meet Mr. and Mrs. Python. They didn't care about Logan at all.

I hadn't been to the mansion either. Logan's parents were living there. Everytime I walked by, the bodyguards would glare at me until I was out of sight.

I was living with Violet at the time. She was kind enough to take me in. She found me crying on the sidewalk and told me to come home with her. Although she seems like a bully, she really is a nice girl.

When I walked into class, the students continued to stare at me.

I hated that everyone knew about the fight. One of Jason's goons told everyone about it before the police found him.

I still wanted to know who sent them to hurt Logan. That psycho!

"Hey, are you doing okay?" Someone whispered behind me.

A man with short, shiny black hair and big blue eyes was behind me. He was in a big blue hoody and blue jeans. He smiled at me once I turned to him.

He's... pretty handsome.

"What did you say?" I asked, lifting my eyebrows.

"Are you okay? You were involved in the accident right?"

"Oh. I'm fine. Thanks for asking."

"Good." He said. "Are you busy during lunch today?"

"No. Why?"

"How about we go to lunch together then?"

"What?!" I said way too loudly. My face quickly went red in embarrassment.

Mr. Leaf looked in my direction and glared at me. "Miss Sky,"

"Sorry, Mr. Leaf." I said, lowering my head.

He just sighed, then continued the lesson.

"So what do you say?" He asked. "It'll be a lot better than sitting in the cafeteria with everyone staring at you."

Well... I didn't want to stared at during lunch. I didn't want to sit alone either. Violet had to make up a few assignments for cooking class so she couldn't sit with me.

"O-okay." I said. "I'll go to lunch with you."

"Sweet! I can't wait. By the way, I'm Chase." He held his hand out to me.

I shook it. "Nice to meet you, Chase. I'm Hannah."

"I know who you are, Hannah."

I leaned up against my locker and stared down at my shoes. I was waiting for Chase. He was three minutes late.

"Hannah!" I turned to see Chase zooming down the hall toward me. Wow, he's pretty fast.

He came to a stop before me. "Ready to go?" He said, breathing heavily.

"Yeah," I nodded. "Let's go."

We left the school and climbed into his car. It was a big red, shiny truck. It smelled so nice inside, as if the car was brand new.

He quickly turned on the heat, then drove down the road.

"Where are we going to eat?" I asked him.

"We're going to get nachos!" He yelled, with a big smile on his face.

"Really?!" I excitedly said. "I love Nachos!"

"My kind of girl!" He winked at me.

I giggled. "Whatever."

"Hannah... have you seen Logan lately?" He said, getting serious.

My mood immediately sank again. "No, I haven't. Do you know him personally or something?"

"I guess. We went to the same gradeschool."

"Has he changed at all?"

"Yes, he has. He wasn't much of a lady's man in grade school." He chuckled. "I feel pretty bad for the guy. He's been abandoned by his parents, tortured by angry girls and now this. Jesus, I wouldn't have a will to live if I was that guy."

He's right. Logan has been through so much.

He stopped the car in the lot of a small red restaurant. A huge yellow sign before it read: Nacho Plaza. Loud music was blasting from inside the restaurant.

"Welcome to the best nacho place in the world!" He held the door open for me as I walked in.

We sat in a booth in the back. The place was completely crowded with other college students.

After a few minutes, a waitress came to our table. Long blonde hair flowed down her back. Big black framed glasses lay on her nose, her bright green eyes behind them.

"Hello. My name is Beverly-- Chase!" The girl gasped. "What are you doing here?"

"Hello Beverly." Chase said. "I came for lunch. Like I always do."

"Since when do you bring girls to lunch with you?"

"Since today."

"Pfft! Listen girl," She turned to me. "This guy is such a loser. You really shouldn't be here with him."

"I just want some nachos." I said. "Besides, I have a boyfriend."

"Oh. I see." She turned to Chase. "May I take your order, lover boy?"

"Just get me the usual, Beverly." He said, crossing his arms behind his head.

"Fine." She smacked her lips. "And you, little Missy?"

"I'll just have the same thing he's having."

"Excellent. Your food will be ready in ten minutes." She smiled at me then went to the back.

"Who was that?" I asked him.

"An old friend. Don't worry about her, she tries to embarrass me every chance she gets."

"Maybe... She likes you." I smiled.

"Pfft! That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard all day. She just called me a loser. Besides, she has a boyfriend and a baby at home."

"A baby? How old is she?"

"Twenty two."

"Oh. She looks really young."

"She could never like someone like me." He said, staring down at the table.

"Do you like her?"

"Nah. I like someone else, but she's in a dedicated relationship at the moment." He smiled at me.

"Awww Chase."

"Hey! Don't pity me, Hannah. I'll be fine." He smiled at me. "The sea is full of other fishes!"

We talked about each other while we waited for our food. He told me he was the leader of the track team. He was twenty one and wanted to become a doctor after college. When he asked me what I wanted to be after college, I told him I wanted to be chef. I loved cooking even though I wasn't that good at it.

"Here's your order." Beverly said, placing our plates of food before us on the table.

"Thank you." I told her.

"You're welcome, girl. Chase?" She glared at him.

"Thanks Beverly," Chase said in a monotone voice.

"You're welcome, Chase." She said, then walked away.

We began to eat. The nachos were so good. I see why he comes here everyday for lunch.

Once I finished eating. Beverly came back holding a stack of napkins. She handed them to me. "Here you go, cutey." She said, then disappeared into the back for the third time today.

The first napkin on the stack had black marker written on it. I read the marker.

It read: Hey girl! Instead of hanging out with that loser Chase, how about you hang out with me instead? I promise we'll have a fun time! Here's my number!

Below she listed her number. She wants to hang out with me? Why?

"We should probably get back to school now." I told Chase, stuffing the napkin into my purse.

"Yeah, we should. You can go to the car. I'll pay for you."

"What? No!" I said, opening my wallet. "I can pay for myself."

"Hannah, I'm paying for you." He said, reaching over and closing my wallet. I decided not to fight him on this. I was too tired to fight.

Beverly came back and Chase gave her the money. "Have a nice day, you two. I hope I see you again, Hannah." Beverly said.

"Thank you, Beverly." I said, then we headed back to school.

Once we did, I thanked Chase for lunch.

"Thanks Chase. I had a nice time."

"I'm glad you did. You think we could have lunch again soon?"

"I'll think about it." I smiled.

"I've heard that before, Hannah."

"Fine! We'll go together again." I said.

"Yes!" His fist pumped. "See you on Monday, Hannah!"

"See you, Chase."
