《Hidden Riches》Chapter 21

I watched as Peyton was being arrested on tv. He had hit an old woman. She wasn't dead, just badly injured.
When the cameras closed up on Peyton's face, I felt a pull in my chest. He looked awful. His skin was completely sunken in. His eyes looked huge and red. He must be on drugs.
I came to the conclusion that it was him who was staring at me at the bakery. He decided to hide from the cops after he had hit the old lady.
Logan's arm tightened around me. He kissed my forehead. "Are you hungry?" He asked me, rubbing my thigh. I had worn shorts today and I could tell he loved them.
"Yeah. Could you order something? I'm starving."
"What would you like to eat? You can have anything you want, sexy"
"Pizza, baby." I giggled.
"Wait here." He gave me another kiss then stood and entered the kitchen, taking his phone with him.
I curled up on the couch and continued to watch the television. Peyton was yelling and screaming as the cops put him in handcuffs. I watched as his mother cried.
Poor Martha. She was always so nice to me. Too bad she had such a horrible son.
"Kitty! Kitty!" Peyton screamed, looking straight into the camera.
Kitty... that was his nickname for me. Why is he saying that?
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I love you! I love you so much, Kitty! Kitty!" The cops ducked his head into the car and closed the door on his face.
Peyton loves me... he's sorry...
My eyes quickly began to water. Peyton still loves me...
I didn't know what to think. Was he telling the truth, or was he lying?
I quickly got off the couch and ran up the stairs. I ran past Logan who was standing in the kitchen, staring blankly at the tv.

I ran into my room and slammed the door shut. I slid down the door in tears. I pulled my knees to my chest and cried.
Peyton...
The memories of he and I flashed through my head. Not the bad ones... the good ones.
The day he bought me ice cream after I broke my toe...
The day he did my hair for me because I woke up late...
The day he kissed me in front of everyone when his team won the soccer game...
The day he came home late from practice and bought me flowers to apologize...
Why am I thinking of this?
My heart beat increased as the memories flowed through me.
The day he drove left me outside in the rain because I hugged his best friend...
The day he called me stupid for breaking my toe...
The day he called me a bitch for burning dinner...
The day he went out with his friends instead of spending Valentine's day with me...
Wait... these are bad memories, not good ones.
The memories hurt... even the good ones did.
I felt pressure on my back so I stood. Logan opened the door. He was standing in the hallway.
"Logan..."
He gave me a big smile. He walked in, his hands in his pockets. I could tell he was nervous. "Hi, little bunny."
"Go away, Logan." I said in tears. I couldn't help but cry. It hurt. Everything hurt.
He took my chin in his hands and lifted it up so I was forced to look into his eyes. I could barely see him through my tears. He was a blur, just like the day we met.
"Forget about him, Bunny. He's gone now. Just remember that I love you more than he ever could."

"But Logan...
He pulled me toward his chest and circled his arm around me. He rested his chin on my head.
It took me a second to realize what he had just said to me. "Logan... you..."
Logan loves me...
"Just ignore it, Bunny. It'll go away soon."
I pulled away and looked up at him, his cheeks were red. "What will?" I asked.
He looked down and scratched the back of his head. Before I could look down too, he lifted my head up again. He smiled at me. "The things you do to me, Bunny."
I smiled back then stood on my toes and kissed his lips. The memories of Peyton quickly faded away. My love for Logan took it's place.
He kissed me softly, as if he didn't want to hurt me.
My tears continued again. They weren't sad tears, they were happy tears.
The doorbell loudly rang, interrupting our moment. Logan quickly pulled away. "I'll be right back." He said and quickly ran down the stairs.
I was disappointed. For once in my life... the pizza could wait.
I touched my lips, his kisses still lingering on them. I wanted him to kiss me softly again.
Just as I sat back down on my bed, I heard a loud thud from downstairs.
"Logan?!" I yelled. I quickly ran down the stairs. I entered the kitchen.
He was laying on the kitchen floor on his back, holding the pizza up in the air above him.
"I slipped. I chose to save the pizza," he looked up at me and gave me a big smile.
I burst into laughter.
I took the pizza from him and kissed his forehead. "Thank you, Logan."
That night as we ate pizza and watched movies, I didn't think of Peyton at all. I only thought of how Logan's arms felt around me.
I wanted to forget Peyton all together. I knew there would be some memories I couldn't forget, but I didn't care. I wanted to start over with Logan. I wanted to call the memories Peyton and I had bruises instead of scars. Logan's memories were the ointment.
It was as if Logan was a superhero. He was my superhero. He saved me from my past. He made me happy. He made me forget.
What could I have possibly done to deserve this man?
