《Artemis》Chapter 14

The royal family stood looking out as the guards lined up awaiting the chariot to come through the gates. Prince Caspian keeps glancing up towards the window that he knows leads to his father's study. The king notices and takes a deep breath.
"Son, she is not leaving."
Caspian looks forward and loosens the collar of his shirt as if a noose is tightening around his neck. He doesn't want to be here. He doesn't want to have to greet and host around a young debutante that will surely cause nothing but aggravation.
The queen glances to her son and feels her emotions slack at seeing him so distressed. She turns her gaze to her young princess who stands beside her. She is grinning ear to ear and practically bouncing on her feet.
"Princess, what has you so happy?"
The princess turns to her mother with a wide smile. The king and prince now look to her as well. She giggles before looking back to the front.
"Navene said he has a surprise for me when we are done!"
The king raises a quizzical brow as the queen giggles at her energetic daughter. Caspian smirks turning back to the gates. The gates begin to lift and once again he takes a deep breath before taking one last glance to the window behind him.
The chariot pulls in with horses in front and following behind as her patrol. The chariot stops in front of them and once again Caspian can't help but play with his collar. The door opens and an iron clad man steps out. He then holds his hand out to the maiden whose white glove is first to be seen. She peaks around the corner allowing her to see the royal family standing there with polite smiles. She grins seeing Prince Caspian and her eyes slowly take in his form.
'Welcoming Princess Lena of Darion!'
The guards bow as the commoners clap politely but not cheerfully. She steps out in a dress that could only be described as indecent. The buss revealing to much to be consider proper as the the waist is over exaggerated. Her hair resembles a bee hive. Caspian cringes looking at her as she sways her hips walking over to them. She bows respectfully to the king and queen before standing up straight. Her eyes locking on Caspian.
"Princess Lena, it's a pleasure to see you again."

The king says watching as she continues looking to his son. His wife going stiff seeing how the young maiden is eyeing their son as Cass doesn't hold back from her distaste. She gags making the young maiden snap her eyes to Cassandra slightly narrowing her eyes before turning to the king and queen.
"Thank you your majesty and thank you for having me." She turns to her side and gestures with her hand. "This is my adviser, Sir Radican."
The iron clad man steps forward to stand at her side as he bows to the royals. They respectfully nod their heads to him.
"Prince Caspian, I have missed you greatly."
Caspian has to refrain from scoffing at her tone. Anyone can tell it was more than inappropriate. He nods his head at her and she notices the disinterest but shrugs it off.
Cassandra becomes bored and pulls on her mother's dress gaining her attention. The queen smiles down to her daughter seeing her anxiously waiting to go back in. She redirects her attention to the young princess who is still looking at her son making her become agitated. She grinds her teeth together before taking a slow exhale. The king notices his wife's frigid form and knows it's directed to the young maiden.
"Perhaps we should go inside and get the princess situated."
The princess takes the opportunity to walk over to Caspian. He forces a smile as she links her arm through his. She clings to his arm feeling his muscles that are tense from the intrusion. The princess either doesn't notice or doesn't seem to care as she grins ear to ear.
The queen continues her lack of enthusiasm as she links with the king who forces his own smile. Cassandra leads in before taking off into the castle leaving them behind. The queen smiles at her trying to relax knowing one of her two children are happy. She glances over her shoulder to see her son looking down to the floor as the maiden continues gushing about god only knows what.
"Be nice my love."
The queen looks forward and clenches her jaw before looking up to her husband. His reassuring smile causing her to take a deep breath.
"She is being disrespectful my king."
He chuckles as he leans over kissing the side of her head. He knows she is passionate and clearly in flamed by the princess' interest in their son. She huffs as they go down the hall leading to the chambers.

Caspian practically holding his breath as the princess continues to babble on about her dresses and fashion... nothing of importance. Her not so subtle ways of flirting. He releases the breath he is holding as they get to her doors.
"Princess Lena, this will be your chambers for your stay."
The princess' brows furrow knowing the prince's chambers are on the opposite wing. The queen can see the wheels turning in her head.
"Your Majesty, I thought I would be in the wing with Prince Caspian."
The King can feel his queen dig her nails into his arm. He places his hand over hers to stop her from lunging at the maiden.
"It would be highly inappropriate for you to be in the hall with our family. Some would say... scandalous."
Lena's eyes go wide as she looks to the queen clearly seeing she has overstep. She gives a polite smile before speaking.
"Absolutely, your majesty. My sincere apologies"
She gives one more bow before stepping in the room with her adviser following in with her bags. The king pats the queen's hand that still is engraving her nails into him as they turn away from the door. They look to their son who is looking directly at his father.
"May I go while she becomes situated."
The king sighs but one squeeze from his wife makes him nod. Caspian doesn't hesitate as he practically sprints away. The king and queen chuckle as they watch him.
"Where has Prince Caspian left to?"
The queen rolls her eyes before they turn back to the princess who is looking each way for the missing prince. The queen clears her throat gaining her attention. The king once again soothes his wife from saying something that wouldn't be appropriate.
"He had duties that needed attendance Princess Lena but I assure you, he will be at dinner this evening."
The king answers. Lena's eyes turning upset before she gives a small smile back to the king and queen.
"Thank you for escorting me to my chambers. I shall rest before dinner time."
She bows before closing the door on the king and queen. The queen is irate as she practically stomps away. The king is even surprised by the action of the young maiden. He walks off after his wife knowing she will need to calm down. He finds her walking towards the back gardens. He follows in tow.
"My love"
She huffs and stops walking crossing her arms in a defensive manner. He walks up behind her wrapping her within the safety of his arms. She leans her head back while looking out to the gardens.
"I do not like how she acts nor the way she looks at our son like she could eat him."
"She will be harmless my queen."
She turns to look at her husband with an unimpressed look.
"She brings nothing but harm."
With that she steps away leaving the king to his own thoughts. He decides to take a walk to the stables to clear his mind. He walks in hearing a soft lullaby being sung. He looks around for the person with the voice. He chuckles as he looks into a stall seeing a cloaked figure brushing away at a stallion.
"Lady Artemis"
"Your Majesty"
He opens the stall walking in to sit down on the stool as Artemis continues her attention on the horse. He lays his head against the wooden stall and sighs loudly. Artemis waits patiently for him to gather his wits.
"You know my son must be looking for you."
"Caspian is still wandering around near the top of the castle at this moment."
"How... nevermind." Artemis giggles slightly as she continues her even strokes of the horse's mane.
"My king, why are you so distressed?" He studies her for a minute before looking off into nothing.
"I feel I have made a great mistake bringing the princess here. No one seems to be happy..."
"When you made the decision to invite the princess, was it for your own personal gain?"
"No... I wanted to make my son happy."
Artemis nods her head as she lays down the brush and turns to the king. Her eyes now looking upon the sorrowful king. She kneels down in front of him as the horse neighs. The king looks into the hypnotizing eyes feeling lost.
"Your intentions were pure my king. You have nothing to feel sorry for. I do not believe it was a mistake to attempt bringing happiness to a loved one. Just give it some time."
He relaxes and feels grateful for her words. He shakes his head realizing everyone was right about Artemis. She brings a serenity to everyone. He reaches out to gently squeeze Artemis' shoulder.
"Thank you Lady Artemis..."
She bows her head before a loud voice makes them both snap their heads.
"ARTEMIS!"
