《Mated at first sight》Chapter 19

It was around 8 pm, the night of Evie's first shift. Kristin and I decided to stay behind to give her some space. The first shift is hard, so she needed to stay calm. I was sitting on the couch with my sweet mate in my arms.
"How do you think it's going with Evie?" She asked.
"She will be fine, have faith, she's strong."
"Yeah, she is." She was quiet for a while and looked at her phone.
"What's wrong?" I worried; Kris is never quiet.
"Uhm I kind of told my mom about you, and she uhm. She wants to meet you." She said quietly.
"Sure, when?"
"Now?" She replied, like she's questioning it herself.
"Oh, uhm okay, let's go I guess."
"Wait are you serious? You don't have to; I can come up with an excuse that we're too tired or you're too busy with pack stuff of --" I silenced her with a kiss.
"Babe it's okay. I mean we leave Friday. I understand your parents want to know who their daughter is leaving with. I mean if it were our daughter I wanted to know too."
"You think about our kids?" She said kind of shocked.
"Of course, don't you?" I asked a cautiously. Is it not normal to think that far ahead? I mean she's my mate. The only girl I ever want to be with, she is my future.
"I mean, I want kids someday. But not in the near future. So, no I haven't really thought about it. I'm sorry." She looked away.
"Hey" I took her chin and made her look at me. "Don't worry okay, we'll take it slow. I know some mates have kids within the first year they meet each other, but we don't have to be like that okay. If you want to wait a year, or five of hell even ten, I'll wait till you are ready. I don't want to force anything." She smiled. "There is that smile I love so much."
"You love me?" I just said that out loud, didn't I.
"Yeah, I do, I loved you the moment I saw you."
"I love you too." She said and gave me a sweet kiss. Before I could deepen it, she pulled away.
"Now let's go meet the parents."
"Be prepared, she can be a bit much."
We were sitting in the car talking about sweet nothings, like favorite colors, music, food everything. I loved these kinds of moments, just listening to her getting excited about stuff. The way her nose moved when she doesn't like anything or the way her eyes almost sparkle when she's excited about something.
About 10 minutes later we arrived at a suburban area. We drove down the street and pulled up to a two-story grey brick house. The house had a small garden, with some grass and flowers. We walked up to the porch and I was beginning to get nervous. I know her parents know about wolves, as they kind of are, but still, this isn't easy.

"Relax, she will love you." Kris gave me a kiss on my cheek and rang the doorbell. A woman who looked exactly like Kris, just older, opened the door and pulled her in a hug. She had the same ashy blond hair and light blue eyes.
"How are you my sweet baby?" She asked while still hugging her daughter.
"I'm good mom, this is Josh." She tried to motion to me. Her mom almost immediately let her go to walk over to me.
"Oh, my baby found her mate." She now pulled me in a hug. "Let me look at you." She studied me. "Strong bones, good height and good muscles. Sweety you did good." I blushed; this is kind of uncomfortable.
"Hello Mrs. Miller, nice to meet you."
"Oh, none of that, call me Katy." She smiled sweetly. "Now come on in, my other daughter and husband are waiting in the living room." Shit meeting a father.
We walked inside the house and stood in the hallway when a girl shouted.
"KRISTINN." A girl around 12 years old, with dark blond hair and dark brown eyes ran up to us and jumped in Kristin's arms.
"Heyy speedy, how is my beautiful little sister doing?" She asked.
"Speedy?" I asked confused.
"Yeah, when we were younger, she used to steal candy and cookies from the kitchen and just ran away. And she was fast, faster than me. So yeah, that's how she became my little speedy." She gave the little girl a kiss.
"Who is this Kris?" Her sister motioned to me and folded her arms.
"Well Kara, meet my mate, Josh." She looked at me. "Josh meet my little sister Kara."
"Hi Kara, nice to meet you." I pulled out my hand for her to shake. She slapped it away immediately.
"If you ever hurt my sister, I will hunt you down and kill you. Okay?" I looked shocked. Did this little girl just say that to me and slap away my hand?
"Kara, relax. He won't hurt me, right Josh?" Kristin turned to me and arched her eyebrow.
"No of course not." I put my hands up, like I surrendered and looked at Kara. "I promise I will always take care of your sister and never hurt her."
"Okay, I like you now. But I just couldn't be sure. I have heard the stories of mates hurting their mate."
"I get it, it's a good thing you're looking out for your sister." I kind of liked how protective this little girl was of her big sister.
"Well now that is settled let's go meet my dad." Kris laughed. "Don't worry, he's the calm one of the family. Me and Kara got our mom's temper." For some unknown reason that didn't calm me at all.
We walked over to the living room and there was Kristin's dad waiting. I guess Kara got her dad looks. He got the dark blond hair and dark brown eyes, like his younger daughter. He walked over to me and gave me a firm handshake.

"I heard you're my champs' mate." Okay I'm not sure if this is a good start or not. He kind of looks like he wants to kill me.
"Yes sir, I am." I returned his handshake.
"Well at least you got a good handshake. Let's go talk." That can't be good. I looked over to Kristin to see what she was thinking, but she didn't give me any indication if I would even survive this. Well world it was nice while it lasted.
"Eric be nice" Katy said. He gave her a kiss on her cheek and walked away.
"Of course." Well at least I didn't stutter, that's a start. He walked over to what seemed like an office and I followed him inside. There was a dark wooden desk with a chair on both sides. On the desk were pictures of his wife and the girls. I looked at the picture of a young Kristin, she looked so cute. I couldn't help but wonder if our daughter would look like her.
"She was around 6 in that picture. We just visited the fair in a town nearby. She always wanted to visit one, but we didn't have something like that in the city. Kara wasn't even in the picture; she was a sweet surprise about a year later. Kristin was over the moon, the moment she found out she was going to be a big sister. She always wanted to be one. When she found out, she wanted a doll, just so she could learn how to hold a baby and how to take care of one." I smiled at the thought, she would be a natural as a mother. "She always took her job as a big sister very serious. She would do anything to protect her, just like I would do anything to protect my girls."
"I understand sir, I would do anything to protect her too. And her family as well of course." I tried to sound confident, but this man scared the shit out of me. I'm a fucking beta for fucks sake, but now I act like a freaking pup.
"That's all I wanted to hear." Wait that's it, I thought. "I don't want to keep my daughter from her mate, I can see you thinking, but that's not why I asked you in here. I just wanted to know my daughter would be safe with you. I already asked about you and Alpha Alexander said you were a good guy, and I trust his opinion." Remind me to thank Alex.
"Thank you, sir." I held out my hand and he shook it.
"Call me Eric." I let out a sign, I didn't know I was holding. We talked some more about Kris as a little girl and how she grew up. What felt like only a few minutes later we heard a knock on the door. "Come in." Eric said. The door opened and Kris walked in. I immediately smiled at my mate; I just can't help it. Every time I see her, I just smile.
"So, you are still alive." Eric and I laughed. I stood up and gave Kris a hug.
"I'm fine babe. We were just talking about you. I didn't know you liked fairs so much."
"Dad what did you tell him?"
"Oh, just about the time you ran off in the fair and we found you near the pig races yelling at a pig to run faster." Kristin blushed.
"DAD, I was 6." She tried to reason.
"Champ, you did it again and again till you were about 15 or so." I laughed.
"It's okay babe, I think it's cute. Remind me to go to a fair someday." I joked.
"Come on, let's go back to the living room." Eric said.
"Thank you so much for the cake Katy." We were just about to leave and go back to the cabin. It was around 11 pm and we wanted to be back, when Evie would be back.
"Of course, and you keep your promise in taking care of our daughter." She gave me a hug and turned to Kris. "And you, check in with us once in a while okay. This is the first time you're leaving, and we want to know how you're doing."
"Yes mom, I promise. I love you guys."
"Also keep me updated, if anything changes." She wiggled her eyebrows, yes, she knew we weren't fully mated. And it was an awkward as fuck conversation. "Also give Evie a hug from me and tell my how it went."
"Of course, mom. But we really have to go. I want to be at the cabin when they get back."
"Of course, drive safe." Kris said goodbye to her dad and sister as well and we drove back. When we got back, we decided to watch some tv. Around 1 am we heard they got back. Evie looked really tired, not that I blame her.
"How are you? How was it? What color is your fur? Did everything go okay?" Kristin bombarded Evie with questions. Evie just nodded in response, after Ashton mentioned to talk tomorrow Kris understood and backed off for now. When Ashton brought Evie to bed, we talked some more and went to bed as well.
The next day flew bye and before we knew it, we were sitting in the car on our way back to Lupus Harbour. The drive back went easy, we stopped a few times afor bathroom breaks and eat something on the way. After the smooth drive we finally arrived at the pack house. When we stopped William ran outside in a hurry.
"They broke through the border." He didn't have to explain anything else.
"Rouges." Ashton and I said at the same time.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here.
