I just woke up from the best sleep ever, I was warm and comfortable. When I opened my eyes and saw Ashton asleep next to me. I looked around me and realized I was still in the hospital. On a seat in the back of my room was my best friend sitting. With a smug on her face.

"Looks like sleeping beauty is awake. How are you?" Kristin asked.

"I'm good." I said with a smile on my face.

"Yeah, I bet. You looked comfy. Don't worry I took many pictures for the kids later." I looked at her with a shocked face.

"Yeah, that's not going to happen." I told her.

"I think we would make some cute babies though." Ashton said with a sleepy voice. I looked at him, with an even more shocked expression.

"Yeah, we are not going to talk about this. By the way, what happened to the bartender?" Ashton growled.

"We handled it." Is all he said.

"He was taken by the police but released an hour later. There was no evidence that he drugged you." Kristin explained.

"Like I said we handled it." Ashton repeated.

"Where is Josh?" I asked Kristin. She blushed just at the mentioning of his name.

"He had some pack business to get to because the lazy Alpha is in your bed. He will be back later." Just when Kristin explained, Josh walked into the room.

"Speaking of the devil." I laughed.

"I am no devil. If you were talking about me. The one you're getting cozy with in your bed is more like one." Josh said. "Anyway, Evie feeling any better? I saw your parents in the waiting room, they said you could leave any moment now."

"I'm alright, just tired and hungry. You would think after they pumped your stomach you would get something to eat. I mean I literally have nothing in my body now. I could use some burgers and fries. Oh my god. fries, crunchy, salty, curly fries. I want those." I was getting more and more hungry when I thought about the food. And as of cue my stomach began to growl. Really loud, might I add. They all began to laugh, and I just looked down to my hands.

"Looks like you're feeling a lot better." The doctor walked into the room. "I have your discharge papers here, so you could leave if you want. Although I don't recommend eating a burger and fries now. Began to eat something light like crackers or toast."

"Seriously? I'm not on a diet, I just want my burger." I pouted and gave him some puppy dog eyes.

"Evie, I don't think that is going to work. The doctor is just doing his job." Ashton said and looked over to the doctor. "Don't worry doc, I'll keep an eye on her eating habits. Can she eat some soup? And how long should she watch what she eats?"

"Ashton! I'm not a kid. I can look after myself."

"Some soup is okay, just see how it feels first. If you don't get nauseous or anything you should be able to eat a burger in a few days. Just rest a bit first okay and see how you react to lighter foods."

"Okay sure, can I go home now?"

"Yeah, just sign this and you're free to go. Do you want me to get your parents?"

"No, thank you." The doctor left the room. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. A few minutes later I heard a knock on the door.

"Can I come in?" Kristin asked. I opened the door for her to come in. "I have some clothes for you to change into."

"Thank you, have I ever told you, you're the best friend a girl could ever ask for?" I said while changing. I wasn't shy in front of Kristin and this was definitely not the first time I changed in front of her.

"Yeah, once or twice. But hey, you can never say it to many times, right?" We laughed and left the bathroom. "Let's get you home."

"Finally. Oh Kris?"

"What's up?"

"Uhm could you maybe tell my parents to just go home. I'm not ready to talk with them yet. I need some time to think."

"Sure, you got it. How about Ashton drives you home, while I talk to them."

"Thank you." I gave her a hug and went home.

I unlocked to door and Ashton and I walked inside. "Uhm make yourself at home. The kitchen is over there. If you want anything to drink."

"Sure thanks. Do you want anything?" Ashton asked.

"No, I'm okay, I'm just going to crash for a little bit." With that I just walked over to my room and got in my bed. A little while later I woke up from someone stroking my hair. I opened my eyes and was met with Ashtons blue ones. "Hi"

"Hey, I made you some soup." On my nightstand was some chicken noodle soup.

"Thank you, that is really sweet."

"Evie, I uhm wanted to talk to you about something."

"Sure, what's up?"

"I, uhm wanted to explain why I behaved the way I did when I first met you." I sat up in my bed and gave him a nod to continue.

Ashtons POV

(Flashback)

I just stormed out of my dad's office. I was angry at him; we are a strong pack. We don't need some humans to help us with some rogues. Who does he think he is? We can handle this ourselves. I know it is getting out of hand but still. They just need to know that we are stronger. I arrived at school and walked in. I was still angry and walked towards my history class. Someone bumped into me. Seriously this as well. I looked to see who I could take my anger out on but was met with the most beautiful green eyes. I knew immediately that this was my mate.

"You have got to be kidding me." I spoke. Now I know I sleep around, but I still wanted to find my mate someday. But she is human. I have to protect her from my world and keep her away. If the rouges find out about her, she's dead. Which means I'll most likely die as well. That can't happen. "Whatever let's finish this. I, Ashton Carter, reject you, as my mate." It hurt to say this. But this was it. I no longer have a mate. She will be safe now and she is human, so she can go on with her life. Probably find love somewhere else. Even thinking about it hurt even more. I really didn't want to do it, but what's done is done. No turning back now. She is safer away from this world.

Days turned into weeks and I tried to avoid her as much as possible. I slept with some she-wolf brunette to get my thoughts away from my mate. Who's name I learned was Evie. At night she was all I dreamed about. During the day I was with my dad and the two humans, like now.

"We took out most of the rogues from the south. We kept one alive, he's in the basement now." William said.

"Good, we will talk to him later. But first let him be for a few days." My dad said.

"Sure. We have to get home soon if that is okay with you. Our daughter should be back soon, and we don't want unnecessary questions." Emma said.

"Of course. How is she handling the move and everything?" Dad asked.

"It's okay, she made a friend. She has just been off a little bit. Not like her normal happy self. But it is probably just because she has to get used to the new place." Seriously who cares about some little girl. Can we just move on already?

"Yeah of course. You should bring Evie by sometimes; we could have diner together." Dad said. Wait did he say Evie? "You might know her Ashton, she is your age. Dark brown hair, green eyes." Shit she is their daughter.

"Oh yeah, uhm I think I've seen her. I think she's in my history class." I replied. After a small conformation, the Cross' left and I went to my room. I invited the she wolf again to take my mind of Evie. She was just a quick fuck, not even good. I had to keep thinking about Evie, to even get hard. I was not a bit satisfied so just threw her out of my room and took a shower to get off.

The next morning Josh stormed into my room shouting, "You son of a bitch." My eyes snapped at him. And gave him one chance to apologize. He was clearly not realizing that I was his Alpha as he showed me no respect. I growled at him, giving him a last warning. "She's in the fucking hospital. And you know who put her there? You!" He shouted again. I knew right away who he meant. How did I put Evie in the hospital? Then it hit me, she never excepted my rejection. So, every time I was with someone, she felt it. I didn't know I was hurting her. I really thought I rejected her. So, in my attempts of escaping my thoughts from her, to stay away in trying to protect her from the rouges, I was hurting her in the worst way possible. My angry expression vanished, and I felt nothing but guilt.

"Is she okay?" I asked softly.

"I don't know Ashton! Why don't you ask that bitch that you decided to fuck last night!" I understood he was angry at me. I was angry at me. How could I be so stupid. My hand fell from his throat and Josh took the opportunity to push me away. I sat down on my bed and asked him again.

"Is she okay?" I asked again.

Back to Evie's' pov

"That's when I heard you were unconscious, and an ambulance came to pick you up. I heard you were not even awake when you reached the hospital. I was so worried about you, I felt sick for what I had done to you. You have to believe me, when I say, I didn't mean to hurt you. I understand if you won't forgive me. I don't even understand how you can be in the same room as me right now. So yeah, that's what happened." Ashton let out a sign.

"So, all this hurt, just because I'm human and some stupid rogues?" To say I was angry, would be an understatement. I was furious, but I didn't know at who. Yes, I was angry at Ashton for hurting me. But I was also angry at those stupid rogues.

"Yes and no. Yes, I didn't want you to get hurt in the crossfire, but I also didn't want a weakness. But by trying to reject you, I made it worse." I gave him a nod, not knowing what to say exactly.

"So, what now?" I asked.

"What do you mean what now?" Ashton looked confused.

"What happened to the rogues?"

"You want to talk about the rogues?" He laughed. "That is what you want to focus on?"

"Well yes, it seems like my problems started with those fuckers, so I want to finish it." I felt the anger burning inside me.

"Evie your eyes." I looked confused at him. "They're yellow, as in your wolf is awakening."

"Now?"

"Yes now, well almost now. It is going to be a full moon next Wednesday. So, I guess with the full moon approaching your wolf begins to awaken more."

"Well, that has got to suck." I laughed not knowing what to do.

"I will be with you, one step at the time okay?" I gave him a weak smile.

"Thank you for telling me. And yeah, one step at the time."
