《Mated at first sight》Chapter 11

Ashton pov
"So how do you feel?" I asked Josh as we walked down the road. We left the club and decided to continue our original plan and go find something to eat. There was a burger restaurant a few blocks away, and I could use a bloody burger. Not literally bloody, but almost. Medium rare it is.
"I'm good, happy. Did you see how beautiful she was" Josh replied
"You look like a lovesick puppy dude." I laughed at the way he was looking
"Shut up."
"Kind of cliche don't you think? Your mate is my mates' best friend." He shrugged
"I don't care how cliche it is, she is mine and I'll cherish her." I nodded, I have to give it to him, it is a better way to treat your mate when you find her. I know I was stupid; I didn't want her to get hurt, but by the way I acted she got hurt in the process. Because of me. I hurt my mate. Even thinking about it now, I could almost not breath, I still feel so guilty. I just hope she forgives me some day.
We arrived at the restaurant and went inside.
"Hi welcome to Hodad's, did you make a reservation?" The hostess asked, while giving me the fuck me eyes.
"No." I just went with a short answer, not giving her any reason to think I would be interested.
"Okay." She said a little cautious. "No problem, let me find you a table." I gave her a quick nod. She looked at her screen for a moment, probably looking for reservations and to see which table was vacant. "Okay follow me." We walked over to a table near the window and sat down. "Your waiter will be with you shortly. Enjoy your meal." Not replying again, I just gave a nod.
"You know you could try to be nice sometime." Josh said while laughing.
"And what, give them hope that I'm interested. I am never making that mistake again, you know I still need to prove myself to Evie. If that means being mean to all girls, so be it."
"Okay okay." Josh held his hands up in defense. After a short moment a waiter arrived and we ordered our meals, both a double hamburger with bacon, fries, and a beer. Apparently, they don't have steak here.
Just when I finished my burger, I felt an aching pain in my chest. It felt like someone put a knife in my heart and my skin began to burn. I held my heart hoping it would lessen.
"Ash, are you okay?" Josh asked concerned
"No, something is happening. We have to go back, to the club now." I shout at Josh
"What? Why? What's wrong?"
"I think Evie is cheating on me" I said
"What? Why?"
"I DON'T FUCKING KNOW; CAN YOU STOP WITH THE STUPID QUESTIONS?" I shouted. Everyone at the restaurant was now looking at us.
"Sorry." Josh mumbled under his breath.
I stood up, took a Benjamin out of my wallet, and threw them on the table. That should be enough. I picked up my jacked and almost ran out of the restaurant.
"Thank you for choosing Hodad's, hope you enjoyed your me--" The hostess tried to say but I just ran past her.
A few minutes later we arrived back at the club. We looked for any sign of Evie but couldn't find her. We saw Kristin walking near the booth we last saw them. Josh beamed with happiness, when he saw her, and we ran over to her.

"Hey babe, have you seen Evie?" Josh asked his mate after giving her a sweet peck.
"Hey, no why? What are you doing here?" She asked with a blush on her face
"Ashton thinks there's something wrong with her."
"Oh uhm, I think she just went to the bathroom. She said she didn't feel so good."
"And you didn't go with her" I growled at the girl's stupid behavior.
"I'm sorry I didn't think about it."
"Sorry is not going to cut it if something happened to her, that's on you." I was furious, how could they just let her walk off alone. "Just help me find her."
I first walked over the bathroom, looking for her scent. When I couldn't find it, I went to the bar, because I knew she had been there earlier. I looked for the bartender which served her earlier but didn't see him either. As I looked around a little more, I heard a moan coming from a storage space. Then it hit me, that's Evie's smell. I opened the closet and there she was making out with the fucking bartender.
"Hey dude do you mind, we're kind of busy here." The asshole managed to say, while he was sticking his tongue down my mates' throat.
"Yes, I do mind, you are making out with my ma-- girlfriend."
"Oh, hi Ashton, how are you?" She asked with a woozy voice and looked at me. Just a second later she collapsed. I caught her just in time, before she fell to the ground.
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO HER." I growled. The asshole looked shocked at what just happened.
"I'm sorry man." He tried to apologize.
"Don't make me ask you again." I said with a dangerously cold voice, as I was trying to keep my wolf at bay.
"I just gave her something to loosen up a bit, she was so uptight." He said with a shaking voice, obviously afraid of me. Just than Josh and Kristin arrived and looked shocked at my passed out mate.
"Kristin call 911, Evie has been drugged." She looked like she was going to cry. "NOW." I screamed at her. I looked back at the so-called bartender. "So, you think it was a good idea to just drug her. Don't you get the hint, she is not interested in you. She is not uptight, she doesn't need to loosen up, she just doesn't want YOU." At this point I was obviously growling.
"Ashton, try to keep calm. Take Evie to the exit, I'll handle this." I looked at Josh and gave him a nod.
"Make him pay for what he did." I said in a demanding tone
"Yes Alpha." He knew now was not the time to argue about this, as I was on edge and wanted to grip the bartenders throat out. I walked away from the group to the exit, with the still unconscious Evie in my arms. When I went outside, I noticed that it was quite cold, so I managed to take off my jacked and laid it over Evie's body. A few minutes later the paramedics arrived.
"What happened." One paramedic asked. They took Evie out of my arms and laid her down on a stretcher.
"She was drugged, by the bartender, may I add." I said as I looked at a police officer that also arrived at the club. I guess Kristin really called 911 and not just an ambulance. "Can I go with you? I want to stay by her side."

"Are you family?" The paramedic asked.
"Not exactly, no." I answered honestly
"Then I'm sorry you can't. We're taking her to Scripps Mercy Hospital. You can follow us if you want." I gave them a quick nod before they closed the doors and drove away.
Stupid I should have just said she was my wife or something. Idiot. I ran back to find my car, that I left a couple of blocks away, near Evie's dorm. Why did I have to walk today? When I finally reached my car, I put the hospital name in my navigation system and drove.
When I arrived, I was led to the waiting room. The nurse didn't give me any information about her wellbeing, because once again, I am not family. I had texted Josh to let him know where we were. He told me Kristin called her parents and they would be on their way from Lupus Harbour. That could take a while. A while later Josh and Kristin and the two other girls arrived at the hospital.
"How is she doing?" Kristin asked. Her eyes were red, probably from crying.
"I don't know anything; they won't tell me anything because I'm not family."
"Like hell." Kristin walked over to the nursing station and talked with the nurse for a while. "They still don't know a lot. They are trying to figure out what she drank. They pumped her stomach and put her on an IV. But she should be fine." She told us.
I was stunned "How do you know?"
"I just told the nurse she was my sister, so she told me." I signed out an relieve. She is going to be fine.
"Thank you." I said to Kristin. Josh looked stunned; I rarely say things like thank you.
"Yeah, no problem. I didn't do it for you, I wanted to know. Maybe we're not family by blood, but she is my sister. Never forget that. I also know what you put her through. When she first arrived back, she wouldn't leave her room. She rarely ate anything and was just depressed. That was not the girl I've known almost whole my life. And that was you're fault. So just because you're acting like a caring boyfriend now, doesn't mean I forgive you for what you did. Not even close. I don't even understand why Evie is considering giving you a chance. If you were my mate, I would have rejected you by now, for good." I was speechless. Once again, I knew she was right.
"I know and it doesn't matter how many times I'll say sorry, it doesn't make it right.
The next few hours felt like hell. Daimy and Maya left a while ago, something about an early class in the morning. I stayed in my seat, scared I would miss the doctor coming to inform us about Evie's condition. Josh went to get a coffee a while ago and brought me one too. I kept looking at the door while drinking my coffee.
"Family of Evangeline Cross?" A doctor said with a chard in his hand. I jumped up, throwing the hot coffee over myself in the process.
"Ah FUCK." A mother with a kid gave me a dirty look. "Sorry." I mumbled "Here, Evie Cross."
"Yes, we managed to pump her stomach and put her on an IV. She is resting now. We still don't know exactly what she drank, but we think she should be fine after she wakes up."
"You think? YOU THINK? I WANT TO KNOW THAT SHE IS GOING TO BE FINE." I shouted at the doctor.
"ASHTON." Josh growled. "Calm down, the doctor is just doing his job." He turned over to the doctor. "I am sorry about my friend. There is a guy named John Harper at the police station. He is the one that drugged Evie. If someone knows what it is, it's him" He said to the doctor.
"Thank you, and it's alright. I understand that he's on edge. But I promise, we will do anything we can. And I will call the police department about your guy. You can see Evie now if you want. She is in room B1034. First floor, down the hall on your right."
"Thank you." I said to the doctor. "And I'm sorry, I just can't loose her."
"It's okay." With that the doctor walked away. We followed his instructions and found Evie her room and went inside. She looked so beautiful and peaceful, sleeping. I stayed by her side, hoping she would wake up soon. A few hours later she began to stir in her sleep.
"Hey baby, open your eyes please." I spoke
"Hmm." She replied trying to open them. After a few tries they finally opened. "Hi."
"Hey, are you okay? Do you need anything? Are you hungry? Maybe some water?" I kept asking her questions
"Ashton calm down. I'm okay, I just have a little headache. Some water would be nice." I let go of her hand and jumped up to get some water.
"Here you go."
"Thank you." She slowly drank her water. "How long was I out?"
"Just a couple of hours. It's 5 in the morning now." I replied.
"Oh shit, what happened?
"You don't remember?" She shook her head. "That asshead of a bartender drugged you. When I found you, you, you." I took a deep breath remembering the pain I felt in my chest. "You were making out with him, in a storage closet. It hurt so much. I felt like I was burning, and someone put a knife in my heard. And that was just from a kiss. I am so sorry Evie. For everything I did to you. It hurt so much; I can't even imagine the pain I put you through. I am so so sorry." I didn't even realize I started crying until I felt Evie wipe away a tear on my face.
"We will talk about it later okay?" I nodded my head.
"WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAUGHTER?" I heard an angry male voice shout across the hall. He came into the room and looked at Evie with a concerned look on his face. His view changed to me and he looked angry. "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING HERE."
