《Because Of You》Chapter 29

Arsen POV:
"Arsen please rest you've been here for two days. Have you even eaten? Showered? She wouldn't want you like this." Macy asked while I continued staring at Grace's pale face. Her beautiful brown hair was laid on the pillow, as she peacefully rested.
I grunted at Macy and waved her off. She let out a loud sigh before I heard her footsteps leaving the room.
I didn't want to leave my mate at all. Especially after what happened. How could a happy and fun night turn into a nightmare?
I wanted to be right next to Grace as soon as she opened her eyes, I wanted to tell her that I loved her as soon as I could. I had wasted enough time.
I squeezed my eyes shut as my thoughts wandered back to what happened two nights ago.
Flashback
I was using as much power as I could go fight off Sean's men. I still didn't have my wolf since they injected me with wolfsbane and that meant they had more power than I had. I wanted to eliminate all of Sean's men so I could kill him last.
I would make him pay. He would suffer the consequences of killing my father and Grace's pack.
I suddenly felt a searing pain in my shoulder as I was fighting off the last two wolves. I quickly cracked their necks before turning around see Sean.
As if everything was in slow motion I watched him as he plunged the knife into Graces' stomach. I let out a roar as I ran towards my mate who lay there.
I picked her up in my arms and tried shaking her awake but her eyes remained closed as I feared the worst. I lowered my head down to her chest where her heart lay and listened in. A flood of relief passed through me as I heard the faint thud of her heart beating.
I saw Matthew and Nick grabbing Sean before giving me a quick nod. I ran out of the warehouse all the way towards the pack house.

I barged into the pack house and ignored the calls of my mother and Macy. My top priority was getting Grace to the doctor before she...
No. I shouldn't think that way.
I called for the pack Doctor as soon as I entered the infirmary.
"Tom! I need your help right now!" I yelled using my Alpha voice.
Tom scurried towards me and took a quick look at Grace before ushering me to the bed.
I quickly placed her as Tom paced around trying to grab materials.
"What has he done? He's poisoned her to no end." Tom said shaking his head while plugging in an IV.
"Tom save my mate." I growled at him getting impatient. He ushered my out of the room much to my displeasure. My head was spinning but I knew I had one last thing to do before going back to my mate.
Walking out of the pack house, I walked towards the woods where I saw Matthew and Nick dragging a bloodied Sean. Nick kicked him to the floor as Sean fell harshly on the ground with a thud.
I walked towards him and kneeled on the floor in front of him. I picked his head up using his hair as he hissed in pain.
He looked up at me with his bloodied face and gave me a sadistic smile. "She'll never survive. I've done my damage." He said laughing.
Losing my patience, I lunged towards him. I attacked him and ripped him to shreds before snapping his head off. I gave him what he deserved for killing innocent people.
Kicking his body away from me, I looked towards Matthew and Nick who were bloodied and bruised just like I was. I mustered up the best smile I could manage as a thanks to them before walking back into the house to see my mate.
Flashback over
It had been two days since then and Grace hadn't woken up yet. The doctor didn't know when she would wake up due to the trauma and poisoning she endured. He managed to save her before the silver consumed her organs which would've killed her.

I gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before walking out the infirmary. I trudged back to my room where I took a quick shower. I didn't want to stay in the room too long because it reminded me of Grace too much.
I quickly got dressed in T-shirt and jeans before walking out towards the kitchen. As I was passing by I heard the cry of my sister. "When will she wake up Matt? He's miserable without her, I want my best friend back." She cried to Matt. I squeezed my eyes shut and walked back towards Grace's room. I had lost my appetite thinking about how long it could take for Grace to wake up. I wanted to keep an open mind but I still had that fear in the back of my mind.
Sitting down on the plastic chair beside her bed, I took her small hand in mine and squeezed it.
"Please wake up Grace. I need you more than I've ever needed anyone. I can't sleep knowing that I could lose you. You're my other half that I can't live without. You put a smile on my face and make me happy with just your presence. I love you Grace. Please wake up." I said painfully, pleading to her.
I knew she couldn't hear me but it made me feel better. I got my wolf back but he too was sad about his mate. He closed himself off and hadn't said a word to me since we killed Sean.
Resting my head on the bed, I closed my eyes, I was exhausted and soon sleep found me.
-*-*-*-*-*
I felt someone moving, before a hand whacked my head.
I shot off the bed and looked towards Grace who was smiling at me laughing.
Wait Grace was laughing? Smiling?
Must be another dream.
"I'm not a dream idiot, I'm real." She said pinching me.
"Grace, oh my god...you're, you're awake..." I said before pulling her into my arms.
"I woke up about 20 minutes ago, I saw you sleeping peacefully and didn't want to wake you." She said caressing my face.
"So you were watching me sleep? Kinda creepy but sweet." I said to her while she blushed and hit my arm.
"Shut up." She said trying to act mad, but I could see the ghost of a smile on her face.
I pulled her face towards mine and crashed my lips to hers. She passionately kissed me back, tugging on my hair. I had yearned for her touch for the past two days and I was the happiest man alive at the moment knowing that my mate was okay.
I pulled back from the kiss and looked straight into Grace's eyes.
"Grace, I love you." I said to her as her eyes went wide.
She stared at me for a good 20 seconds before she broke out into a huge smile. She pulled me in for a quick kiss before pulling back.
"I love you too Arsen." She said to me sweetly.
For the rest of the afternoon we stayed in, laughing and talking to each other. We were finally at peace and nothing could come between us anymore.
We were now one. A team that would stick together.
Forever.
-*-*-*-*-*
I'm actually very sad knowing this was the last chapter before the epilouge.
I want to thank every single one of you who have been with me since the first day.
I couldn't have done it without you, with that said, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and are looking forward to the next one!
Lots of love!

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. I am terrible at spelling and I'm not doing this for profit but as a way to relax so no paid editors. I will warn you that if this book gets impossible for me to write I might just end it, but I will write an end even if it's ended abruptly I hope it won't get that bad though. well hopefully that won't happen, by the way, the ending will be the same it's just the difference of whether or not there are loose ends. this is mainly an adventure/fantasy, the romance will likely be cringe-worthy with just how slow it will be, either I won't know how to advance or won't want to due to the circumstances I make, on purpose or accidentally. if you have suggestions for story progression feel free to help, I will, of course, give you props if I use them.
