《Because Of You》Chapter 16

Grace POV:
Upon pouring the last of the soup into the bowl I heard footsteps nearing.
Arsen's scent soon filled my nose as I turned around. He was dressed in a simple grey shirt and sweatpants. He looked more fresh than he did in the room and his hair was wet meaning he just got out of the shower.
Leaning against the counter he just watched me, his gaze following my movements.
"I was just going to bring the soup up to you. You should be resting." I said passing the bowl of soup to him and pouring some in for myself.
He shrugged his shoulders. "It was getting boring up there, you don't mind me eating here do you?" He asked, his eyes boring into mine.
At a loss for words I simply shook my head and took a seat at the counter and Arsen took one across from me.
We sat quietly sipping our soups. Until my thoughts caught up to me.
I still felt guilty about leaving and putting Arsen through that. He deserved a chance and Macy's words rang through my head. Arsen didn't have it easy either but he was willing to try. He hadn't been pushy or anything since we had gotten here and treated me so kindly.
Pushing my bowl of soup away I looked towards Arsen. He was eating the soup quietly.
"Arsen." I called.
His head snapped up as he gave me a questioning look.
Looking away, I took a deep breath. "I'm sorry."
Again he looked at me confused.
"I'm sorry for leaving that day and putting you through trouble." I said all in one breath turning my gaze to my half eaten soup.
I heard and sigh and soon felt a finger lifting my chin up. My eyes then met with Arsen's green ones.
"Grace you're not trouble to me. I'll admit I was frustrated and hurt that you tried to leave but you're never a burden to me." He said sincerely.

Giving a small smile I stood up. What I did next shocked me and I'm pretty sure it shocked Arsen too.
I wrapped my arms around his torso and hugged him, burying my face into his chest. For a few seconds he didn't respond. Feeling embarrassed I started to pull away.
What were you thinking Grace?
Before I could move back, I felt Arsen tug me back towards him as he wrapped his large arms around me.
He buried his face into my neck and sighed in content.
"Am I forgiven?" I mumbled into his chest after a while of just hugging.
His chest rumbled as he pulled back. "I was never mad. Hurt? Yes. But not so much anymore." He said flashing me a smile.
"I'm willing to give this a shot." I said as he looked at me.
A huge smile once again broke out onto his face.
I smiled back at him, but we were soon interrupted.
At that moment the three musketeers barged into the room. Aka Nick, Macy, and Matthew
A gasp, and whoops went around the room as they noticed the position we were in.
I pulled back from the hug and so did Arsen but he still kept an arm wrapped around my waist.
"It's about time you guys! Finally don't have to deal with this one moping around." Nick said slapping Arsen's back.
Arsen swatted his arm away. "I did not mope around."
"Whatever you say, Arsie." Nick said making everyone laugh at the nickname.
"Arsie?" I said in between giggles, giving Arsen's cheeks a squeeze.
He swatted my arms away playfully and made a step towards Nick.
Nick screamed like a little girl causing everyone once again to erupt in laughter.
Matthew and Macy stood off to the side together but not too close. It seemed as if they deliberately put the distance between each other.
Macy, catching my gaze noticed how I was staring. She gave me a look telling me that she would tell me what it was about.

Moving towards me she stopped the arguing going on between Nick and Arsen.
"Hey! Grace and I are going to grab some coffee at Martha's shop." Macy said loudly trying to catch the attention of Arsen.
Arsen looked up and was about to say something but Macy beat him to it.
"Nope, you can spend time with her when she comes back. We need to have a girl talk. Adios!"
Before I could say goodbye to Arsen she dragged me out. I met his gaze before leaving the kitchen and flashed him a smile. He smiled back at me and waved before the door to the kitchen shut.
We walked out towards the garage where at least 7 cars were parked. All sports cars. Damn they had money.
Macy led me towards a red Mercedes that stood out from the many sports cars.
"The boys are show offs. I prefer something a more humble." Macy said unlocking the car.
I raised my eyebrow and pointed towards the car.
"Okay but it isn't as bad as them." She said getting in.
I gave out a laugh and walked towards the other side, sliding into the sleek black seats.
Macy backed out of the garage and made her way towards the shop.

Macy and I both settled into our booths with our coffees.
"So I know you're probably very confused and not as observant as my brother is towards Matthew and I. You probably have noticed the obvious tension between us."
I gave a small nod as she continued.
"We're mates." She said looking out the window at the grey clouds.
Taking a quick sip of my coffee I let the words sink in. "I kinda had a hunch something like that was going on. But my question is why are you guys so tense around each other? Are you trying to keep it a secret from Arsen?" I asked.
Macy shook her head and turned towards me. Her eyes glistened with tears. "He said it would be best if we forgot about being mates. He doesn't want to make Arsen upset and make him think that he's using me to get a higher rank. Matthew arrived 2 weeks before you came. He had been in Europe taking care of family problems for years. He took back his title when he came back. We realized we were mates but he didn't want anything to do with me. He ignores me and avoids me at any costs, but he'll get angry if I go near another guy. Nick is the only one that knows and he's tried to talk to Matthew but he won't budge. He just doesn't want me." Macy spilled as tears leaked town her cheeks.
Moving out of the booth I joined her in hers. I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her arms as I tried to comfort her.
"Macy, it's okay. He'll come around. You can't fight the mate bond for long. He doesn't even realize what he's missing. You're such and amazing and strong girl. You're kind and bubbly and beautiful. Any guy would be lucky to have you. He's just scared right now. I have no doubt that he wants to be with you too. He just needs to be shown that. And I've got just the plan. Now wipe yours eyes and listen up, the plan will start tomorrow, we'll talk to Nick about this too. We'll need his help. Matthew is going to wish he never pushed you away." I said smiling before telling my plan to Macy as she listened intently.

But ever since that day, he's been having the strangest dreams... And the work is really starting to take a toll on his body... Author's Note: I wasn't sure which mature content warnings I should put on this novel, as I'm pretty much pantsing the story. I'm putting them there mostly as a percaution, but also to not limit myself as to where the story can go. This is my first time writing and publishing anything substantial. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
