《Because Of You》Chapter 8

Grace POV:
Mistakes. They are a part of daily life. We make them everyday and don't even realize what we did before it's too late.
I had realized the first step to my mistake when I accepted Arsen's hand.
What the hell was I thinking? He killed your family Grace. Your family. Your pack. He ruined your life, and here you are hand in hand with him.
Having all these thoughts stir through my brain tired me but I knew I was making a big mistake by letting my guard down.
Stupid mate bond.
I became aware of my mistake when Arsen and I walked into the dining hall and numerous eyes turned to look at us. I could practically feel the stares on us as everyone studied Arsen and I's intertwined hands. I quickly let go of his hand, not wanting anyone to assume anything.
God Grace what have you done? If the pack grows accustomed to you and Arsen it'll just cause more issues. Not to mention add another problem regarding mates.
Brushing off those thoughts I lifted my eyes up from the ground and looked around. About 25 people were seated. I presume they are all the higher ranks in the pack. My eyes once again met Arsen's, his green eyes held confusion due to me letting go of his hand. I masked my face of any emotions and stared back at him with the same lifeless eyes I've had for the past 3 years.
I still can't believe how I let my guard down. I was caught in the moment and didn't realize what a big mistake I was making.
Looking away from Arsen, my eyes caught Macy's as she waved me over to the empty seat next to hers.
I walked towards Macy fast trying to avoid the 25 pairs of eyes watching my every move. As soon as I sat down, the chair next to me being moved as Arsen plopped himself down onto the seat.

I glanced at him from the corner of my eye before looking towards the table. Most of the people there had their food and were devouring it. Everything ranging from pancakes, fruits, juice, toast, and waffles was placed on the table. My mouth watered and my stomach grumbled as I looked at the food. I hadn't had a meal in about 2 days and I was famished.
Grabbing a plate, I placed 3 pancakes, a piece of toast, and a few strawberries on it. I poured in my juice and dug right in. I hadn't noticed the numerous eyes on me as I continued to eat, savoring the taste of the delicious food in my mouth.
I heard a few people chuckle including Arsen and Macy. "Wow Arsen, you're gonna have a handful with this one, She sure has an appetite. But hey, she looks like she will make a great Luna." A young guy that looked around 23 said with a bright smile.
As soon as the words left his mouth my fork fell from my hand as I completely froze. The whole table had turned silent due to my sudden drop and had their eyes on me. I didn't say anything as I pushed my chair out and quickly walked out of the dining hall.
I walked aimlessly around the house and soon made it upstairs. I was wandering around when I came across two glass doors. I could see a balcony and a clear view of the forest. Opening the door, I walked outside, closing the door behind me. I leant against the railing and stared out at the endless amount of dirt, trees, and plants.
What I didn't want to happen, happened. The people in the pack are aware that they have a Luna and are getting used the that term. Little do they know I could never be their Luna. They don't understand the hatred I have for this pack and for Arsen. There may be a mate bond but I will never forget the pain I endured for three years. When I let my guard down today, it was a moment of weakness. I let the emotions that I had pushed so far back come out.

I am incapable of love, and more specifically I am incapable of loving the man who ruined my life.
I don't know how long I stood on the balcony just thinking, but I soon heard the glass door open and close as someone joined me.
I turned towards the person only to see a pair of green eyes that I seem to find myself getting lost in. "Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked Arsen in a cold tone, keeping my eyes impassive.
"You left so suddenly as soon as Trevor mentioned the word Luna. Tell me Grace why do you push me away? Why do you run at the word Luna? Why are you so cold to me when all I'm trying to do is get you to let me in? Arsen exclaimed, exasperated.
"Because you're a killer! I can't be with a killer. Not now, not ever!" I yelled mustering up all my anger into those few sentences.
"How am I a killer? Yes, I've killed people, I'm an Alpha. It's normal. Please explain to me how I'm a killer." Arsen said as he shot questions my way.
"The Crescent Moon Pack." is all I said for Arsen's whole face to turn dark.
"What does that pack have to do with anything?" He growled
"Let me ask you one thing? Did you ever wonder where the hell I came from? That just maybe I had a pack?" I spat
"No. It can't be. You're...." Arsen drawled
"Yes it was my pack. Yes my father was the Alpha. And yes I was there when the attack happened! I was there when you viciously killed my family and pack!" I screamed as tears began leaking out of my eyes.
Arsen just stood there shocked. I couldn't take it anymore. Pushing past him, I ran down the hall and back into the same bedroom I woke up in. I laid there on the bed for what felt like hours just crying and thinking about how messed up my life is.
What was supposed to be something I could look forward to in my life, became something that was the nightmare of my past.
Will I ever catch a break?
Deciding that I couldn't stay here any longer, I made sure that I had all of my stuff packed and ready. I didn't have much anyways so there wasn't a lot to pack.
Tonight, when everyone would be asleep, I would escape.
At the thought of leaving tonight, my heart can't help but clench and sink. What I can't seem to understand is,
Why?
