《Because Of You》Chapter 5

Grace POV:
"Can you stop biting me now?" was the first thing he said to me.
We had been walking for 5 minutes now. Actually he was walking and I was still on his back.
Since he wouldn't let me down and I was so hell bent on getting down, I resolved to biting him until he put me down.
It didn't work. The only reaction I got was a chuckle of amusement.
I could listen to his laugh all day.
Wait what.
Forget I said that.
"Put me down and I'll stop biting you." I retorted.
"You think you can walk when you've injured your foot? Forget it Grace, I'm carrying you." He replied
How did he know my name?
Makes sense.
"And exactly whose fault is it that I'm injured in the first place?" I shouted near his ear.
He winced and replied with a guilty tone. "I'm sorry. I had to stop you somehow. You wouldn't stop running from me."
"There's a reason I was running from you. I hate you. You're a killer. Why would I want to be with a killer." I blatantly said.
It was silent.
He didn't reply. The atmosphere had completely changed.
He then let go of me and set me on the floor.
We just stood there staring at each other.
"Listen here, you may be my mate but I won't tolerate the disrespect." He said in a cold clipped tone. He then turned around continued walking, not waiting for me.
I quickly followed, not wanting to get lost.
I could escape but something was pulling me back. And it wasn't my injured foot.
Catalina whimpered as she went to the back of my mind.
I immediately felt guilty. I know that if someone had called me a killer and told me they hated me, especially my mate, I would be hurt and upset.

He's so ruthless that he probably doesn't even realize that I'm the sole survivor of the pack he killed.
I shouldn't care how he feels. He deserved it. He killed your family Grace.
I continued limping behind him, but soon the pain in my leg began increasing.
Little twigs would poke at the bottom of my foot since I was barefoot.
Deciding the pain was too much, I sat down.
Arsen stopped walking as well after noticing that I wasn't following.
When he saw my expression and how I sat down abruptly he quickly strode towards me.
He bent down and I could see the worry clear in his eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked frantically.
I was taken aback. Even after all the hurtful things I said to him, he still cares.
"My foot is aching really bad. The pain is becoming worse." I informed him, avoiding his gaze. I was ashamed for sounding so weak.
He looked back then turned to me. "We're getting closer to the pack house. I've informed the pack doctor and he's waiting for us to arrive. If you'll let me carry you there we can get there faster and without anymore issues." He said. Even though he was worried about me, I could tell he was still angry about what happened earlier.
Not wanting to feel anymore pain, I complied. "Okay, just please hurry. I think something is stuck on the bottom of my foot."
He didn't say anything. He simply picked me up bridal style and began walking.
Within 15 minutes I saw a huge house. Mansion isn't even the word that would be used to describe it.
It was huge.
This was probably the pack house.
I could feel the eyes of curious onlookers from the pack on us. I buried my head in Arsen's chest as people turned to look. I felt uncomfortable under the scrutinizing gazes of the people from the pack.

Arsen, probably sensing the change in my attitude, turned to everyone and boomed in a loud voice. "Stop staring, go back to what you were doing."
Upon hearing the Alphas command everyone turned and carried on with their conversation.
Although they turned away I could still tell they were all curious.
After all, there was a girl in the arms of their Alpha.
Arsen walked into the pack house and entered a hallway. He walked down and came to a stop in front of a door and entered.
There stood a tiny man with a white lab coat on.
"Welcome Alpha." He said as he bowed his head.
"Hey Tim, my mate was hurt, can you fix her up?" Arsen asked with a light tone.
He didn't seem like the Alpha everyone feared. He sounded so easy going.
Upon hearing the word 'mate' Tims' eyes glowed and a huge smiled took over his face.
"Congratulations Alpha, and of course, just set her down over here." He exclaimed as he pointed to the bed next to him.
Arsen walked over there with me still in his arms and set me down.
Tim then came over with his first aid kit and began examining my foot. All while Arsen stood in the corner of the room with his arms crossed staring at us.
Damn he looked hot.
After examining my foot he turned to Arsen. "Well Alpha, she's a lucky one. She only sprained her ankle and the bleeding from the wound has stopped. All we need to do is clean up her wound and wrap her ankle so it can heal. I sense Alpha blood in her so she should heal very soon." He said with a smile as he began bandaging me.
Arsen turned to me with a dumbstruck look. "You have Alpha blood? Why couldn't I sense it?"
I shrugged. "Yea, I do, and I don't know why." I said as I avoided his gaze.
But deep down I knew why. I had no links anymore. My pack was dead and so was my family. I wasn't well trained. Training was due to begin soon for me but then tragedy struck.
Arsen stared at me as if he sensed that I was hiding something.
Tim's voice caused him to break his gaze from my face and turn to him.
"She's all set Alpha. I recommend bed rest until she is fully healed."
"Thanks Tim, have a good day." Arsen dismissed.
"Likewise Alpha." Tim said before leaving the room.
Arsen didn't say anything. His eyes were glazed over. Someone was probably mind linking him.
Arsen then turned to me. "You can rest here while I go take care of something. I'll be back soon." He informed before leaving.
I took a deep breath. What has my life turned into? How did so much happen in one day. I laid down just thinking what's in store for me next . I have a mate. But he's the person that killed my family and pack.
I didn't know what to do, so when sleep finally took over, I complied and let the darkness consume me.

This is the story of Kaleb, a young gamer, and his adventures in the latest Super-Hero Virtual reality MMO: Modern Age Online. No cheats, no guides, just one newbie Super-Hero against the forces of villainy in his new virtual home. Notes: 1.) While not my first time writing, this is my first time throwing anything I've written at the tender mercies of the internet. All criticisms welcome. 2.) Just to inform people early: There is no evil corporation looking to control the world with VR, there is no Krueger-esque "if you die in the game, you die for real.", and this isn't a story of some OP harem-loving god of the system. Nothing wrong with those stories this just isn't one. This is a simple story about a guy playing a game and finally 3.) This story is extremely rough, i did very little editing, this is just me gauging interest really. oh, and English is my 1st language, if for some reason you find that important. Note 2) from now on Book 1 will exist in its entirety on Royal Road while Books 2 and 3 (and any others) will be released on Amazon. I want to thank everyone who has been reading and has taken this weird journey with me. I will continue to write in my spare time and will always be thankful to Royal Road for giving me a space to be creative. Thank you to everyone.

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
