《》Chapter 11: New

Carlisle was taken off guard by the girls question. 'What is love?' Why was she thinking about love? Who made her feel the need to ask that question? "It's just," she began, "Sam had told me about how you guys have 'mates' and stuff, so I wanted to know if you knew what love was." She huffed.
"I hadn't had the best upbringing on the subject, since my parents are divorced, so I thought you would be able to tell me." She explained. What was he going to say? What could he say? She knew about mate's, and now she had questions. What was the best response that wasn't going to reveal that he was insanely in love with her?
"Oh. I probably should have asked someone else," she said, scratching the back of her head while her cheeks turned pink in embarrassment. "Sam had also told me that you and Edward don't have mates. I can see now that Bella is his, so I probably should have asked him or the others, I'm sorry." She apologized.
"Let's just forget I-" Carlisle cut her off, "I do have a mate." He said. He would have kicked himself if he thought it would do him any good. Why did he say that? Well, he knew why he said it. He didn't want to risk the kids revealing him, so he went ahead and basically did.
Genesis's heart broke. He had a mate, and she was asking him for love advice about him! She wanted to turn back time. She wanted to go back to when she was happy just being in his presence and thinking about him with no thought about Edward finding out. She had actually wondered if Edward told him about her infatuation with him. It's not like he didn't have the right to know.
"Oh." She replied softly, afraid that if she spoke louder that her voice would crack. "I'm sorry. I hadn't met her before and I had just went off what Sam said. I'm so sorry." She apologized. Carlisle wanted to laugh. She was talking about herself and didn't even know it. He was still debating wether or not he should tell her. Doesn't she have a right to know?

"Could I possibly meet her?" She asked. She was trying to be as casual as possible. She wanted him to forget about her asking about love. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been. She knew she wasn't his mate, yet she still gave herself hope. "I don't know how to answer that." He replied truthfully.
He didn't. He really didn't. She looked at him, confused by his answer. "Does she not want to meet me? Is that why she isn't at the house whenever I come over?" She asked. Carlisle was about to lose his mind. She was oblivious! Utterly, astoundingly, oblivious! "You've already met her." He smiled a bit, amused now.
"I have?" She questioned. She was sure she would have remembered- "It's you, Genesis." He cut off her train of thought. What? Her? She was his mate? After all this time, she was growing more and more attached to him and scared of his rejection, when he was already attracted to her. She wanted to smile and jump around in glee. She was his mate!
Genesis didn't know what to say without making herself seem like a complete fool. Carlisle was dying internally, ironically. She was going to reject him. That's what he has been afraid of. He was about to just flat out say forget it and take her back to the house, but the smile on her face stopped his thoughts completely.
Genesis could see Carlisle's insecurity from a mile away. She didn't want him to feel scared. She knew what he was scared of. She related to the fear. Rejection. "I accept you, Carlisle." She spoke, looking him in the eyes. "I just hope you're not disappointed. You know, in me being your mate." Genesis blushed and looked to the ground insecurely.
Carlisle stepped closer to her, putting his arms around her waist and looking down at her. The action caught her attention, making her look up at him in shock. "I accepted you a long time ago. And I am the luckiest man in the world to have you as my mate." He assured.

Genesis looked into his eyes, trying to see if he was telling the truth. She couldn't find a hint of doubt or lies in them. This was all so new to her. Vampires, mates, love. She didn't know what to do. She only knew what she wanted to do. Something that she's unknowingly craved for a while now.
She wanted to love him, to cherish him and be with him for as long as she could. And right now, she wanted to show him that she felt this way towards him. Genesis put her arms around his neck and brought him down closer to her face. Carlisle took the hint, and he met her halfway, closing the gap between them.
The kiss felt like it pulled everything together. It felt like everything they had been pushed deep down inside them was finally let out, like everything was finally resolved. Genesis pulled away to breathe and stared up at Carlisle. They smiled at each other, happy that they had finally had the weight on their shoulders lifted.
"You don't know how long I've waited to do that." Carlisle said, letting out a laugh. Genesis smiled at him cheekily, "Sorry to keep you waiting." She giggled. He grinned at her, "It was worth it." He said, before kissing her once more.
Genesis and Carlisle sat up in a tree and talked. "You know, after finding about about your gifts, I had wondered if Edward ever told you of my thoughts." Genesis said. Genesis had already taken into consideration that Edward might have known about what happened to her before she told them. He probably had already told the others too.
"No, he never told me. But, now that you have admitted to thinking about me, I am curious." Carlisle smiles amusedly. "I thought about why you were so nice to me. Why I felt this weird attraction to you. Then, I wondered if I love you." Genesis confessed.
"You don't have to say that you love me, you know. " Carlisle said. Genesis was thankful that he felt that way. This was all so new to her. He was her first kiss, and first, whatever they are now. Speaking of which, "What are we?" Genesis asked him, looking up at him curiously.
Carlisle smiled and looked down to her and grabbed her hand in his, "We're whatever you want us to be." He answered. He didn't want to rush things. He wanted her to feel comfortable and happy with him. And if that meant that he had to wait on her another hundred years, then he'd happily wait.
Genesis gave his hand a squeeze and smiled back up at him. She wanted to be with him. She didn't want to be alone anymore. She didn't want him to be alone anymore. She wanted to finally be happy with someone without the fear of something bad happening. She could tell by looking into his eyes, that through thick and thin, he will always be there to make it better.
"I want you to teach me what love is, Carlisle." She said, "I want you to be the reason why I know what love is. I want to realize what love is because you taught me." She continued, "I want to be with you, Carlisle. Now, and for as long as I can." She said finally. Carlisle couldn't help but pull her into a tight embrace. He was as happy as he could ever be.
"Well, I think it's only fair that I do, seeing as that you were the one who taught me love." He chuckled. "You love me?" She asked shocked. Carlisle nodded. Genesis smiled and leaned up to kiss him. She couldn't think of a time when she was ever this happy. And it was all because of him.
They were each other's everything.
