Ashton woke up Sunday morning with his head pounding in pain and his mouth dry.
Groaning, he got out of his bed and made his way downstairs for a glass of water and some aspirin.
When he entered the kitchen, he was surprised to see his parents laughing loudly as they busied themselves in making breakfast.
"Uhh.." Ashton mumbled, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly at the odd and rare sight.
They both turned and their grins grew wider upon seeing their son.
"Ashton honey, would you like some breakfast?" his mum asked, a spatula in her hand and what seemed to be pancakes in the pan.
He shook his head and moved past them to take out a glass from the cupboard, "No thanks. I'm not hungry."
His dad stopped him and gazed at him scrutinisingly before letting out a laugh.
"Babe, our son is hungover!" he exclaimed, turning to his wife, "Congrats buddy," he said slapping Ashton on the back.
Ashton scoffed and pushed past his dad to get to the sink, "The first time I got drunk was last year but you wouldn't know that of course."
He opened the tap and let the water fill his glass before taking a long, well needed sip.
"Oh Ashton don't say that now," his mum said, walking over to him, "You know we are busy."
Ashton didn't know what had gotten into him but the need to talk back was sudden and new. After all this time of his parents never being home and acting as if it were fine to one day be, he didn't think it was very fair.
"Busy fucking other people instead of creating an actual relationship with your son? Thinking the occasional hi in the mornings when you're home for a minute before leaving again and the stupid dinners once every couple months will make up for it? Bullshit."

Ashton finished his outburst and gulped down the rest of the water before slamming the glass on the bench and making a move to leave.
"Ashton no, we want to know what we've missed out on in your life. We know we haven't been the best of parents but we're trying honey, we really are," His mum said, holding him back.
He looked up at her and chuckled lowly, "You want to know what you've been missing? I've had the worst past couple months, being confused as hell because I've been struggling to come to terms with my sexuality. And guess what? I like a boy now, I really like him but you wouldn't know because you guys don't care! And now all of a sudden you do? You didn't even come to my game yesterday! So, fuck off."
His mum flinched and took a step back at his words, her lips parting in surprise.
Ashton rolled his eyes and saw his dad approaching them from the corner of his eye.
"Son we don't–" he tried to say but Ashton quieted him.
"I don't want to hear it, leave me alone," He grumbled, feeling his head aching even more now.
Ashton spun on his heel and exited the kitchen, making his way upstairs and heading for his phone.
Opening his contact list, he scrolled down until he found Luca's name.
Too afraid he was going to cry, Ashton refrained from calling him and instead settled on texting him.
hey, was wondering if you want to go on a date? like a real, official one as ya know...? Now. Even though I'm in pain, I need to see you.
A couple minutes passed and Ashton still received no response as he started pacing up and down his bedroom nervously.

He mentally slapped himself for being overly paranoid when a message came through.
wow, I'm surprised you're texting normally. Sure though, u can pick me up in an hour.
A grin appeared over Ashton's face when he read the text and then, read it all over again.
He checked the time and typed back a reply.
perfect. Wear red, it suits you.
He didn't know where he was going to take him, he just needed to not he around his parents and be in the comfort of Luca because Luca meant everything to him at the moment.
