The park was only a ten minute walk from Luca's house, though with the sun shining blindingly and sending sweat seeping down his skin—he almost regretted agreeing to go.
Children were scattered around the colourful playground, people walking their dogs, and a few teenagers kicking a soccer ball.
But Ashton was all Luca seemed to notice, his figure sitting on a bench as he glared down at his phone.
Luca made his way over, nervous and scared but he swallowed it all down and forced a calm demeanour.
Ashton must of heard his approaching steps as he shot his head up, grinning widely at the sight of Luca.
Luca took a careful seat next to him, mumbling a small and awkward 'hi'.
"Hey," Ashton said, shoving his phone away into his jean pocket.
It was silent for a moment, before Ashton spoke up again.
"So uh, the kiss..."
Luca cringed, scrunching his face up into a frown.
"It was nice."
A choke grumbled in Luca's throat, his eyes widening as he shot his gaze towards the blond boy, "What?" he asked in a breathless whisper.
"Yeah. You said you like me right?"
Luca blushed.
"Well, I kind of maybe like you too," Ashton confessed, meeting Luca's startled eyes.
Okay so everything was going the exact opposite of how Luca expected it to.
He pinched himself subtly to make sure he wasn't dreaming, but no. Everything was real, this was happening.
"No," he quickly said, shaking his head.
"What?" Ashton asked, eyes confused.
"This," Luca drew out a finger and motioned it between himself and Ashton, "Can't happen."
A flash of hurt crossed Ashton's features but Luca chose to ignore it.
"What–What do you mean?"
"It just can't okay?" he stood up from the bench.

Ashton reached out and tugged onto Luca's sleeve, pulling him back a couple steps.
"Give me one reason why, " his eyes were pleading and hopeful.
Luca hated it.
"We could never work Ashton. Deal with it," he said, ripping his arm away from Ashton's tight grip.
He moved to walked away and Ashton allowed him to for a split second, biting down hard on his lip in deep concentration.
He let out a huff, before standing to his feet and swiftly pulling Luca back again.
Because he wasn't going on a chase again, this time he was going to get what he wanted.
And that was Luca Violet.
