"There you are. What took you so long?" Betsy asked when Ashton re-entered into her room.

"You didn't get snacks," She noted as he sat down in her desk chair and spun it around so he was facing her.

He was fitted in a comfy grey hoodie and some sweatpants that he had brought with him to the game so he could change into afterwards.

His team lost by the way, much to Ashton's dismay but his mood was immediately lifted when Betsy invited him over.

"Got caught up with your brother, " Ashton told her, shrugging his shoulders, but Betsy could tell by how tense he seemed with his jaw clenched and fingers twitching nervously—that something wasn't right.

"Did something happen?" she questioned, rising a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

Ashton shook his head, "We just had a nice, heartfelt conversation."

Betsy didn't quite understand if he was being sarcastic or if he was just straight up lying to her. She assumed the latter.

"Ashton, don't lie to me."

A collective sigh escaped his lips, "It's nothing. We just had a little argument is all. It's hard to uh.. talk to him..because whenever I try he starts using everything I say against me.."

Betsy nodded her head at his explanation and fell back onto the bed—Ashton moving from the chair to plop himself down next to her body.

"Why do you even try? I told you not to bother," she murmured, turning her head so she was facing him.

"I don't know. I guess I don't like it when people don't like me, because well everyone does. I'm that sort of guy," Ashton responded, staring up at the ceiling.

"That's sweet, Ash, really. But news flash, not everyone is going to like you, there's always people that won't and you have to just live with that," Betsy said, watching the blond intently—heart beats growing as her eyes fell on every feature of his face.

But, no she told herself. Her heart shouldn't be beating like this, she shouldn't be wanting this, feeling this.

"But then I want to ask why. Why don't those people like me? What can I do to change that?"

Betsy smiled warmly at Ashton's words—she found them sweet. He was revealing an insecurity he had, probably been buried deep within and he was reaching out for it so he could discuss it with her.

And she didn't let go, "Well. I like you so is that enough?"

He snapped his head to her and grinned brightly. Their faces were inches apart and if one of them moved just a little, their lips would be touching.

"Yes, that's perfect," Ashton sighed, reaching out a finger to brush away a red strand that had hung down her face.

Ashton wanted this, he wanted to lean in just that mere inch and allow their lips to meet and mould together, but she on the other hand, didn't. This thing they had going on, was moving a little too fast for her liking so she flinched her face away and shifted her body into a different position.

And together yet separated, they fell into a silence of thoughts and feelings in need of figuring out.
