Luca felt caged. His breaths became caught in his throat as he attempted to calm them, though nothing seemed to work. His skin was flushed and hot, the heat rising throughout his body, causing his hands to shake and his chest grow heavier then usual. He craved to rip the hair off his head and scream into the empty, cold air that was doing nothing to cool him down.

His sister stood next to him, her eyes widened in absolute horror as she stared blankly ahead. Her hand reached out to grab Luca's and she tightened their hold—their loud cries combining together and creating their worst experience ever.

The night they watched their mother take her own life.

Luca jolted awake from his sleep, his hands fumbling out and gripping onto the sheets, as he allowed himself to recover from what the dream that had swept into his mind and left him nothing but darkness and void. Tears moistened in his eyes, slowly creeping out and trickling down his flustered cheeks, mixing with beads of sweat.

He shoved his face into his pillow, and bawled his eyes out as his mind kept replaying the memory over and over again until finally, he got the courage to sit up and stumble out of his bed.

He left his bedroom and timidly and quietly, he tiptoed over to the room across from his. When he opened the door, Betsy was stuck in a deep sleep and he wondered if she ever dreamt of such things as he did.

He trotted over to her bed and pulled open the covers before slipping his body underneath and laying there in silence.

Betsy awoke to the shift in her bed and rubbed her eyes tiredly when she caught sight of Luca.

"Sup," she grumbled in a barely audible voice, turning around to face him.

They layed face to face, neither of them speaking a word until Betsy noticed the glassy layer that covered her brother's hazel eyes.

"What's wrong?" she asked, concern washing over her features.

It was seemingly visible for them to see the other under the darkness that enveloped the room and pulled them together in misery.

"I dreamt of that night again, " Luca said, wiping away his tears as he let out a heavy sigh.

Betsy instantly knew what he was talking about and brought him closer to her body, hugging him tightly and never wanting to let go.

"I don't dream of that night, but it's always there in my mind like a constant reminder to say 'hey bezzy your mum's dead, ha sucks to be you'," Betsy admitted, smiling sadly.

Her words were an attempt to lighten up the atmosphere a tad, but there was nothing that could dry up the mood that became so prominent whenever their mother was mentioned. They just had to live with it, however much it pained them.

"I miss her so much, " Luca cried, holding onto his sister.

Betsy sniffled, her eyes burning with her own tears yearning to escape and she let them as they both held onto the other and cried themselves to sleep.
