"Come on Sophia! We are getting late. Why is it taking you so long to finish your breakfast?" Josh shouted from outside the house.

Because I've developed a new law to go to school late!

"I'm coming Josh! Just wait for two minutes." It was almost 7 o'clock. I sat there and ate my cornflakes as slowly as possible. I wanted so bad to play with them so after making sure the servants weren't there, I started playing with them.

"I'm the king of chocolate cornflake land. Each of you will have to be very careful because vanilla cornflakes can attack us anytime. And they taste really bad! Now- "I was saying in a thick, authoritative voice, when somebody smacked my head.

"What are you doing Sophia? Do you realise that it's our school time and we are getting late? " Josh yelled. " Uh-yeah, sorry for that. In just finished anyway." I said as I stood up and took my school bag.

When we reached to the car, I saw Rony pass by. "Rony! Can you please drop Josh first? He needs to be on time!"

Josh came after me. "No Sophie. You can't be late! Your record will be ruined. I'll go late! It won't matter." He argued as we sat inside the car, wearing his seat belt. I checked the time, hoping that it had exceeded 8 but it wasn't no magic world and it still was 7:10.

What should I do now?

Just when Rony was about to start the car I got an idea. "Stop the car! I think I've forgotten something. Just wait, I'll be right back!" I announced as I ran outside, shutting the door with force but not before hearing Josh's frustrated sigh.

It was lunch break and I was going towards the back side of the school with the lunch tray in my hands. Hope nobody sees me. Just when this thought crossed my mind, a certain someone needed to destroy my plan. "I told you to sit in the cafeteria, didn't I?" I heard the snake spat out, causing the grip my feet had on the ground, go weak.

You just told me to not sit in the library!

I looked down and gulped. "Don't waste my time and do as I say. Go!" He demanded. I didn't need to be asked again because after that I left for the cafeteria. Sitting on the last table seemed like the best idea to me. On my way someone decided to stick their foot out, and being the idiot I am, didn't notice it before the damage was done. My lunch tray flew up and I fell on my face. Pretty bad.

Ouch!

The next thing was the falling of tray on my back, resulting in spilling of all the food over me. The room erupted in laughter. I adjusted my glasses correctly on my nose and stood up. Just then I felt something hot on my back followed by a girl's voice. "Oops, sorry. My coffee just slipped out of my hand."

"Uh-oh look at you. All dirty! I think you should take a bath. Wait I'll help." Maddy spoke in an abnormally-sweet voice as she walked away. I need to go out of here before she returns! The chances to implement the thought were zero because everyone was surrounding me.

I prayed to the God hopefully that just maybe once, he would feel pity for me and have some mercy upon me but just like every time, before the prayer even traveled half of the distance, a chilly liquid was emptied upon my head. Everyone started to hoot with laughter. Again.

"Hahahahaha!"

"Enjoying the bath nerd?"

"Eww! Just go away. I can't even look at you!"

"Yuckh! Take this disgusting book worm away!"

Clutching my bag tighter to my chest, I ran. Everything looked blurry and my vision was faded. But like all the other jokes life likes to play with me, I couldn't escape successfully and collided with a hard wall. I knew this guy was going to kill me. Even if I was hurt and he was totally fine!

Backing away, I started to walk again, but whoever that was held my hand, tightly causing a sharp pain to the area I cut last week. I lifted my gaze to look up at them.

No, this can't happen.

Carter Reece!

I had just invited death myself. "What the hell just happened here?!" His affective shout made every mouth in the cafeteria shut. "Oh I see now!" He laughed lightly. "Why are you letting her go so easily? Let her taste some pain too." A devilish smirk started to form in his lips as his grip tightened on my hand. I couldn't help but cry in pain.

"Come on, baby. Let's teach you how to see while walking!" He hissed and dragged me with him. My mouth produce funny sounds as I tried to control my sobs. God, this is too painful. Carter stooped in his track and turned around to look at me with a weird expression on his face. Then his gaze traveled to my hand that was being the victim of his strong grip. He held it up.

My heart started to beat faster and the speed kept increasing each moment. I didn't want him to know about my self harm. He couldn't know.

He pulled away the fabric of my sleeve and there it was, on display, the stitched cut, blood oozing out of it. I couldn't face him after that so I closed my eyes tightly with tears flowing down my cheeks.

A moment of silence passed.

Carter spoke, broiling the deafening silence, "here take this. From next time bring an extra outfit for yourself." Carter.

Jacket?

I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that he was offering me his jacket. Because I didn't know he had this in him. And all I expected him to do was bully me till I faint.

"Now take it! It isn't everyday that Carter Reece gives you his jacket." Opening my eyes, I stared at him and then pinched myself.

This isn't no dream Sophie!

My mind couldn't process this. Carter Reece was giving me his jacket? Carter had an I'm-trying-hard-not-laugh look on his face as he watched my actions.

I didn't know if I should take it or not. Because if anything, there could be some trick behind this gentlemanly action of his. If it was any other time I'd definitely refuse but this was Carter we were talking about. If I'd have refused, who knows he might even force it on me and I didn't want that.

I looked up to see he was still holding the jacket out to me but with an irritated look. My shaking hands took hold of his jacket and I can swear I saw a small smile came over his features which was again replaced by his hard rock face.

"Do you ever speak?" He started. Saying that I was shocked was an understatement. What shocked me was the fact that Carter was starting the conversation. But then I was like, 'what about the times when I screamed? When I cried for the way you bullied me. When you slapped me, kick ed me and punched me? What about that? Were you deaf then?', but obviously I couldn't say that to him so I remained quiet.

When he received no reply, he started to walk away. My mind kept screaming at me to thank him for what he did today but it felt as if I couldn't form words in front of him.

"T-T-Th-Th-" Of course this was me. Only I was able to do such a stupid thing. This caused him to turn around and raise his eyebrows."Did you say something?" I gave him a single nod and he needed that to come closer. "Yeah?" He questioned, putting his hands in his jeans' pockets. "T-Th-" he cut me off, amused," are you trying to say thanks?"

I shook my head. "Then be quick. I've got other things to do as well." His tone held annoyance in it.

"T-Tha-Th-"

"Stop stuttering!" I hissed at myself, irritated. Why is it that I can't speak in front of this jerk? When I realised what I just did was all witnessed by Carter, my eyes went wide and I couldn't help but choke on my words.Carter started to laugh at me. "You are too funny!"

"Th-Thank you." I managed out. "What? What did you just say?" Carter smirked, a hint of playfulness in his tone. "Th-th-thank you." I uttered again. "But I asked earlier, if you wanted to say–uh, don't tell me you wanted to say thank you and not thanks?"

So what? I like thank you better.

Carter's laughter that hadn't stopped became wild. "God, what is she? What are you Sophia?"

All I could understand was, either he has gone out of his mind or he has lost his brain somewhere in the morning.

I looked down at myself and up at him. Obviously I was a human. Now the only thing I was able to decipher was that Carter is drunk. First offering the jacket, then the sudden change of his attitude, then all the laughters. Yup he's totally drunk! His laughter died down but after seeing the confused look on my face, it started again.

Finally the bell rang, putting an end to this crazy conversation. Who enjoys talking to a drunk bipolar guy? Not me at least. No matter how hot he is. Coming closer to me he pinched my cheek. "I didn't know you were this cute!" He said, before he started to walk towards his class.

"And you can sit anywhere you want in lunch." I heard him shout from afar before completely disappearing. At that time I felt question marks dancing around my brain and my vision.

Get that through your mind, Sophie. He did drink in the morning.

Removing all of this from my mind, I went towards the restroom to wash myself and my clothes that were drenched in coffee and full of pasta with tomatoes sauce, sticking to my body.

The only though occupying my mind was, he didn't question about my cut. Either he was too heartless to even consider it or it was something else.

But what?
