《Soul Bonded [Claude De Alger Obelia x reader ]》4. Curiosity

It had been an hour since Fat lady had left. You were all alone in the room. Gazing out from the window towards the blue sky and the floating clouds. You sighed, slumping in your chair. You were bored and hungry.

Since Iseka was responsible for lunch, you had to wait. Even if you felt like cooking something the equipment and utensils were so vastly different that you might end up burning the house. And your tiny hands couldn't hold any heavy utensils.

"Oh, man," You mumbled tiredly. You wanted to sleep so you could forget everything. But even sleep had left you. Leaving you alert and fully awake.

You tried to read some books to gather more information but all the books were related to plants and herbs. With extravagant names, you couldn't even pronounce!

But it made sense since your Mom was a herbalist.

"Just my damn luck to be dumped alone all by myself."

Since your mind wasn't preoccupied with anything. It started digging up memories that were better left buried.

Your family's smiling face flashed across your eyes, making your heart clench in painful nostalgia.

Did they move on? Or were they still hurting like you are? You hoped that they had moved on. Because to some extent you had. You had come to the bitter reality that you might never be able to see them again. That fact hurt you that most nights you cried yourself to sleep only for Nora to find. She tried to comfort you but since she didn't know the source of your despair, she couldn't do much. Instead, she sang a lullaby. The one she called 'Bye-bye bad dreams'. And surprisingly it worked. You would sleep a dreamless night until you made peace with that fact.

....

"Ugh!" You abruptly stood up, frustration on your cute face. "What the hell is this!? Why do gloomy!"

You were so done moping around. Screw being all sad and depressed!

You tugged your pigtails feeling agitated. "God, I need to get out of here and find something to do or else I'll go insane from my thoughts and boredom!"

You strode toward the door with purpose but hesitated to cross the threshold. Iseka did say she will come back. But it's been an hour and you needed a fresh breath of air.

"I'll just go to the stream. It's the closest location to the cabin so she shouldn't have a problem finding me. And I wouldn't get scolded," you mumbled impatiently.

You took it upon yourself to write a short, brief message to Iseka. It was messy enough to be the handwriting of a kid with the drawing of a stream but coherent enough to understand.

Heh, I'm talented!

You proudly admired your work before pinning it on the chair the fat lady sat before.

You rushed out feeling the cool breeze soothe your troubled mind. You took a deep breath feeling your tensed muscles relax.

It was a great idea to take a stroll. It cleared your mind of unwanted thoughts.

You idly walked until you reached the stream. The clear crystal water flowed in a zigzag pattern. Water so clear that you see the pebbles gleam when the sun's rays touched the water's surface.

You crouched and gazed at your distorted reflection.

"I look so cute! I'll almost want to pinch my cheeks!"

You were in awe. You looked cute with your twin pigtails bouncing with every movement. With big twinkling eyes and chubby cheeks, you looked the epitome of an innocent angel.

You weren't a angel. That's for sure.

You relaxed gazing around the lush green field. Everything looked so breathtaking as if something is straight out of a fairytale.

Vivid flowers were scattered on the green-carpeted ground near and beyond the stream. Ranging from yellow to purple, and every shade of hue.

Everything looks so unrealistic, especially the glittering butterfly.....

....Wait, what?

You blinked when you saw a glowing indigo butterfly flutter into your field of vision and exit with a glittering trail of indigo.

"Wow," You looked at the fading glitter before looking at the carefree butterfly. "Is it a magical creature?"

You never saw a butterfly glow and pulse in colour. It looked so.. surreal. You stood up flowing the butterfly. You wanted to see it up close. Touch it to confirm you weren't dreaming.

It would settle on random flowers but would fly away whenever you got close.

It'd make sense for it to be cautious. But it behaved suspiciously. It never left your visage almost like taunting you.

"You're on!" you puffed out at the butterfly realising its game. "Just wait!" You pointed a finger at the peculiar butterfly. You were determined to get close to it. As if expecting the undeclared challenge, it flew faster.

The peculiar butterfly flew like it had a destination and purpose, leaving behind an alluring trail as if guiding you to follow it. You didn't hesitate to chase after it.

It's not like you see a glowing butterfly every day. Now you got a chance you weren't going to ditch it.

The scenery started to change. The trees became denser and the path untravelled. Sunrays couldn't reach the ground and it made the shadows more prominent and eerie. For a moment doubt flashed in your mind before fading just as fast.

You didn't know how much time has passed. Or for how long you were chasing after the butterfly. But since you weren't exhausted or tired, you took it as a sign to keep going.

You found yourself in a clearing where an intimidating tree stood dominating the place. Looking closely you determined it was some ancient tree.

A shiver ran down your spine. You blamed it on the cold breeze that was following in the strangely encased place.

The butterfly fluttered in circles before it flew in the shade of a ginormous ancient tree. It finally settled on a root jutted from the ground.

You looked at the gigantic tree with wide eyes. You halted amazed at the sheer size of the tree. Its branches were spread wild and distant which created a dome-like structure. Its leaves made a warm cocoon and shadow under which you looked like an insect. Roots travelled down from the tree and continued within the ground. You had to dodge a few in order not to slam into one or slip on the jutted roots.

Tearing away your gaze from the ginormous intimidating tree, you looked at the butterfly.

"Ha. Finally gave up. Told you can't win against me," You puffed your chest proudly.

You tiptoed towards it, careful not to scare it. After all, you weren't gone through all the afford only to fail miserably because of your impulsive acts.

The butterfly glowed and pulsed more brightly. Its wing flapped in the air leisurely, scattering glitters of indigo hue.

Your stretched hand were just inches away. But you should have paid heed to the warnings and hints. Maybe it had been more cautious of your surrounding you would've seen the mysterious mist that rolled in out of nowhere or the way the butterfly glowed forebodingly. But nope, you were too busy ogling the magical creature.

As soon as you made contact, there was a bright flash of light. Strong enough to make you shield your eyes. But when your opened your eyes the ground beneath was pulled away. Literally.

A black void formed under you and you fell into it with a shriek of surprise. Too late to regret following your curiosity. But you forget one thing curiosity killed the cat.

In your case, the cat was dragged under...

...

A form materialised out of the mist. Their indigo strands of hair danced in the air as they elegantly left a finger to let the butterfly settle on it. Red lips curl into a smirk. Eyes gazed at the place where a certain individual had disappeared. Her black gown shuffled with the wind. The mist curled around the figure as they out a thoughtful hum.

"You did well," A silky sweet voice whispered to the glowing butterfly.

Indigo orbs that were bright yet eerily dulled narrowed in a calculative way as they gazed at the pulsing butterfly.

Those words echoed in the clearing. Mist snaked around the figure before they started fading away.
