《The List》(36)

"River, wake up," I whispered, tapping him on the arm as I stood by our bed.

"Hm," He grunted.

"Time to get up."

"Says who?"

"Says me," I said before pulling the blanket off of him.

"Hey!" He exclaimed, sitting up quicker than I thought he would.

"Shouldn't have done the same thing to me yesterday," I smirked.

"You were wearing clothes yesterday!"

"Boo-hoo."

"Oh, that's it," He said, getting up and running toward me.

"River!" I yelled as he wrapped his arms around me. We fell on the bed with River on top of me, tickling me like crazy.

"Shouldn't have woken me up," He laughed.

"River! Stop it!" I laughed before he finished touching me.

"That's what you get for waking me up," He grinned as I stood up.

"I learned my lesson."

"Good," He said before getting dressed.

After we were both ready for the day, we walked downstairs to find the rest of our group making pancakes.

"Oh, I'm a beast at making pancakes," River said.

"So am I," Victor said, flipping the pancake in the pan.

"Wanna see who's better?" River asked as I sat down at the table.

"Boys, calm down," Nadia said.

"No, let's have a competition."

"What are you guys even talking about? It's all the same pancake mix," I said.

"We could have a pancake art competition," Nelson suggested.

"What is that?" I asked.

"You draw pictures with the pancake mix and then fill it in, and they'll cook at different times so you can see the pictures."

"Same teams as last time?" River asked.

"Sure. What does the winner get?" Victor asked.

"To choose what we do today and tomorrow."

"It's on."

"We'll go first," Nadia said, referring to her and Jess.

We all sat down at the table as they did their thing.

"We all have to draw the same thing so that it's fair," Jess said before they started.

"Okay, what should we draw?" Nadia asked.

"A butterfly," Nelson suggested.

"Okay," They said as they got to work. When they were done, they hid their creation with a paper towel and set it down at the table.

"We'll go next," I said as River and I stood up and headed over to the stove.

"I'll do the outline, and you can fill it in," River said.

"Okay."

River got to work on outlining the butterfly. I thought he did a pretty good job. Then, it was my turn to fill in the gaps. I concentrated as I worked but ultimately failed with staying within the lines.

"Sorry," I said, sounding sad.

"It's just a silly competition. It's fine," He laughed before we set our pancake on the table with a paper towel over it.

Victor and Nelson did their creation before placing it on the table next to all of ours.

Nadia counted down before we all removed our paper towels and laughed our heads off once we saw the pancakes.

Mine and River's looked lopsided, and the lines were messy, while Nelson and Victor's butterfly looked constipated. The only butterfly that looked decent was Jess and Nadia's.

"I think we know who won," Nelson said.

"So, what do you want to do today?" River asked Jess and Nadia.

They looked at each other before answering at the same time, "Snorkeling!"

We all agreed that that sounded fun. After finishing our pancakes, we got ready to go. It was a ten-minute car ride to the snorkeling place, so we got there quickly.

Once we got on the boat and headed out to the snorkeling location, we got our gear on and jumped in the water.

Getting to see all of the ocean life up close was amazing. It was surprisingly relaxing as I kicked through the water. I bumped into the other's a few times, but we quickly went back to looking in the sea.

Once we got back to the house, we chilled for the rest of the day until it was nighttime.

"Do you guys want to go night swimming?" River asked as we all sat in the living room as it got dark outside.

We all agreed and headed out to the pool.

"Cannonball!" Jess yelled, immediately jumping in the water. I didn't have time to react before River was grabbing me and plunging us into the pool.

I splashed him as I resurfaced, and soon we were all getting in a splash fight.

"Let's have a splash contest," Jess suggested as the splash fight died down.

"What is with all these contests?" I laughed.

"We're a competitive bunch."

"I'll do a splash contest," River said before everyone else agreed.

"I can judge," Nelson said as we all lined up on the pool deck.

Jess went first, creating a significant splash. Then River went, then Victor, then Nadia, leaving me as the last one to jump. I made the stupid decision of wanting to get a running start. I backed up and started running, but the water dripping from us had made the pool deck slippery, and I fell, scraping my hands, elbows, and knees.

"Alani!" They all cried, coming to help me.

River carried me inside like a baby as I reassured him consistently that I was okay.

"You're not okay. Look at your elbows and knees," River said, clearly worried about me.

After setting me down on the couch, he instructed Nelson to get the first aid kit that had come with the house. River kneeled before me as he washed my cuts and put bandaids on top of them.

"Thank you," I said, looking into his eyes and seeing the worry in them. I couldn't blame him, though. If he were the one who had gotten hurt, I would have been just as worried as he was.

"I'm okay," I reassured River.

"I think we should call it a night," Nadia said.

"Here, let me carry you upstairs," River said.

"I can walk, River."

He didn't listen and carried me anyway as I squirmed the whole way up.

"Good night, guys," He said before closing our door.

"That was a stupid idea. You could have been seriously hurt," River said with a touch of anger in his voice.

"I'm okay. I promise. I won't do anything stupid again," I said, straddling him as he sat on our bed.

"Promise?"

"I promise."

"Good," He said as I kissed him. It got heated after a minute, and right as I was about to take my shirt off, River stopped me.

"You're hurt," He said.

"I'm not too hurt for sex."

"You sure?" He asked.

"I'm sure," I said before kissing him again.
