Jenny's POV
It's bucketing down with rain as we near the cliffs edge. Sarah reaches it first and two people help her up. I reach it next to see Ludlow and Dieter offering me their hands. I grab them and they pull me up. I go over to Sarah as they help the other two up. Suddenly Kelly appears and rushes over to her father giving him a tight hug. Jake kneels beside him looking at me. 'You ok?' he mouths to me.
I nod my head. We all get up and go back to the hunters destroyed camp site. It stops raining and Kelly wrapped in a blanket. Ian is holding Kelly close. We combine our limited resources with theirs. Roland supervises the assembling of the resources. Sarah and Dr Burke have found each other and consulting anxiously, heads nodding in agreement, while the other argue.
"Our communication equipment's been destroyed. If your radio and satellite phone were in those trailers that went off the cliff" Roland says.
"They were" Ian states.
"Then we're stuck here, ladies and gentlemen, and stuck together. Thanks to you people" Roland snaps.
"Hey, we came here to observe, you came to strip-mine the place!" Nick snaps back.
"At least we came prepared. And until you intentionally destroyed all our..." Ludlow starts to say.
"Prepared? Five years of work and a hundred miles of electrified fence couldn't prepare the other island" I retort.
"Did you actually think a couple dozen Marlboro men would make a difference here?" Ian asks them.
"It's a looter mentality. All you care about is what you can take. You have no right" Nick adds.
"An extinct animal that's brought back to life has no rights. It exists because we made it. We patented it. We own it" Ludlow states. Dietar approaches Nick.

"Are you looking for a problem?" Nick asks him.
"I found you didn't I?" he demands. They start to fight.
"Knock it off!" I snap as Ian pulls him away from Dieter with Jake. While two other men pulled Dieter from Nick. Roland looks at Nick with reorganization.
"I know you. You're that little Earth First bastard, aren't you?" Roland asks him. As Sarah and Dr Burke rejoin us.
"Earth First? What's that?" Ludlow asks.
"They're professional saboteurs" Roland states.
"Environmentalists" Nick states.
"Criminals" Roland shots back.
"Knock it off the pair of you!" I snap.
"Listen to me, by moving the baby rex into our camp. We may have changed the adults' perceived territory" Sarah tells us.
"Their what?" Ludlow demands.
"That's why they persisted in destroying the trailers, they now feel they have to defend this entire area" Dr Burke states.
"We have to move right now" Sarah adds.
"Move where? Our boat, their airlift. They're both waiting for an order we have no way to send" Nick states.
"There's a communication center, here, in the operations building. It's the main structure in the old worker village" Ludlow states.
"I remember that village. Grandpa ran everything on geothermal power, it was never supposed to need replenishing. It should still work. If we can get there, we can send a radio call for the airlift" I explain.
"How far is the village?" Nick asks Ludlow.
"A day's walk, maybe more. That's not the problem" Ludlow states.
"What is? What is the problem?" Roland asks him.
"The velociraptors" Ludlow states. "Our infrareds show their nesting sites are concentrated in the island interior. That's why we planned on keeping to the outer rim" he explains.
"What are veloco..." Dieter tries to ask.

"Velociraptor" Dr Burke corrects. "Carnivores. Pack hunters. About two meters tall, long snouts, binocular vision, strong dexterous forearms, killing claws on both feet" he explains.
"And the rexes may continue to track us too, if they perceive a threat to themselves or the infant" Sarah states.
"No, you're wrong, they'll lose us once we're out of their territory" Dr Burke argues.
"Don't bet on it. A tyrannosaur has the largest proportional olfactory cavity of any creature in the fossil record except for one" I tell him.
"Right a turkey vulture. It could scent at up to ten miles" he states.
"Besides the raptors won't be a problem with Jake and I around" I state. "There are two raptor packs on this island. I trained on and Jake trained the other. We are the alphas, as long as we are around we should all be safe" I explain.
"Then I say we head for the village" Ludlow states.
"We should head back down to the lagoon" Ian suggests.
"And do what? Sit out in the open, next to a heavily used water source, and hope your boat captain decides to come back on his own?" Roland asks him.
"He won't. He knows better" Nick states.
"Then we head for the village. We might find some shelter and we can call for help. The rexes just fed, so they won't stalk us for food. Predators don't hunt when they're not hungry" Roland states.
"No, only humans do" Nick sneers.
"Oh you're breaking our hearts. Saddle up. Let's get this moveable feast underway" Roland orders. We all do so. Forming a column as we enter the jungle. Jake and Ian stand either side of Kelly as we march on. I walk with Nick and Sarah.
"Do you really think the raptors will remember you and Jake?" Sarah asks me.
"I do, but these hunters have to trust us and do exactly as we say. Otherwise they'll all die" I state. "You both stay close to Jake and I, and we'll be fine" I tell them. They nod their heads.

Post War Rules
Life on Torus Terminal is usually fast paced, but simple. A frontier Terminal has little room for easy living, but the great, circular station does boast shopping and culinary experiences from many Imperial races and cultures. Any star is, by its nature, extremely far from its neighbors. But laser highways, and the great shimmering sails of the light-rider spaceships make the trip into only about ten years. Still, the denizens of Torus Terminal eagerly await the day when the Anti-Euclidean Engine their station is built around finally comes online. Once that is done, they will have unfettered access to the entire Empire. Instantaneous travel and trade across hundreds of stars. Torus Terminal does boast one other oddity: a creature which calls itself Human. As he says, the last of his kind for now. He has made quite the life for himself on Torus Terminal, especially in the darker corners of the station. The elites of Torus Terminal praise his name, for once he took up arms, crime began to fall. What they did not realize was that was because he had claimed the seedy underbelly of Torus Terminal for himself and his own goals. The elites praise him as a paragon of law. The criminals fear him as a ruthlessly clever crime boss. Those closest to him, know him as the General. This story was originally posted on the Humanity Fuck Yeah subreddit, where it evolved from a simple play on a historical figure in a science fiction setting into a full blown space opera. I kind of took it as an opportunity to explore a setting I've had rolling around in my head for years. I also decided that it would be nice to have it in a place where I could more easily come back and edit it later, so I'm reposting it here. Here's a link to the original posting if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/e9cwpl/post_war_rules/ If my genre and tagging is subpar, let me know. I'm still new to Royal Road and I'm open to help. Feel free to comment and make suggestions, or discuss. I love comments, and so long as we keep things civil I also love criticism.
