《The Match ✓》Chapter 10💃🏻

Monday morning I head to work with so much happiness inside my body. Somehow I felt like the air was lighter as my heart beats in its normal rhythm. After the weekend life has formed and people are rushing to their jobs and while Mondays are often considered to be the mist boring ones I actually find myself enjoying the day that has only just begun. While I may not like the office job that I have now I do like getting out of the apartment and just doing something to keep me busy, that is other than dancing because I would take that over anything else.

As I was about to get into my car my eyes find Steel who is sitting on a bench that is nearby, he is staring at something. Like he's lost in something, perhaps in his own little world. Sometimes I would just get lost in another world, it happens the mist when I'm dancing but there are times that I can just stare off into space and dream of everything from earth to the moon and even beyond the galaxy that we live in. I walk over to him and sit on the bench beside him.

It is only now that I notice that his eyes are closed and for a split second I wonder if he is breathing, then I see the rise and fall of his chest and I can breathe a bit better, knowing that he's alive. I wonder if I should wake him or not because maybe he just needs sleep. The more I study his face I begin to see what the darkness of his hood is trying to conceal from me and the rest of the world. I see how he carries hints of blood on his lips that has dried up.

I see how swollen one of his eyes are and how purple it is starting to become. I see that his cheek is marred to the point where his skin color is starting to not be visible on some places on his face. I gasp when I realize that he must be hurt so badly. I take a deep breath before I gently begin to shake him to wake him up as I have no clue on how to wake him or if I will be able to wake him with this manner. "Steel" I gently speak to him.

He stirs up in his sleep and when he opens his eyes he tenses but as soon as they find mine he starts to relax and it makes me happy to see him this relaxed. I had not noticed that he had taken my hand when he woke up but I don't really mind that much as I do like it when his hand is holding mine. His body is much larger than mine and his hand is so large that it feels like a glove but in the best way possible as this glove is one that I never want to take off my hand.

"Good morning" I whisper to him, not knowing what else to say. I can tell he doesn't want to talk about what happened to him. I know he's a boxer, and he does have his secrets that he doesn't want to share and I do too but my heart is aching for him and it feels pain to see him like this. He doesn't answer me and neither did I expect him to. "Do you have anywhere to go?" I slowly ask him as our eyes are just looking into one another.

"You can go to my apartment if you want" I tell him and with my other hand I fish out my house keys which are on another keychain than my car key because I'm always lending my roommate my house keys when he forgets them which does happen a lot. I had felt before that Steel's hands were freezing cold to the point where they sent shivers running down my spine. A sign that tells me he has been out here for a long time, possibly all night and it makes me feel so bad that I could've helped him this whole time.

He has not said a word this entire time, but he does take my keys and looks at them for a small moment before his gaze returns to me once again. I wonder what he is thinking. "I have to go to work now, but I promise that I will be back soon. Don't worry, you can have whatever you want in the fridge and do what you want" I tell him, feeling extremely bad that I have to leave him when he needs me. Steel has suffered through something that had made him this wary and despite his size he is scared, I know that.

Perhaps the only reason that I can see it is because I know what it feels like to be afraid and not just of the stage, like him I have had to battle demons but unlike him I've not been able to win. I heard about Steel and how he has won every single match that he has competed in and I know that he is one to not mess with but as he is here sitting beside my today he is not a boxer or a champion, he's a human being, like me.

He nods his head and I give him a sad smile and hand in hand we go to my apartment building where he takes the keys and enters. I go to my car where I start the engine and drive off to work. Throughout the whole day all I could think about was Steel and what had happened to him, now and in his past to shape him the way that he is, and even while dancing he always flashed before my mind and I don't know why but something tells me that I'm about to find out rather soon.
