Ant and Dec were taken aback as Gillian suddenly fell to the floor.

"Oh,oh,oh,oh" Dec exclaimed as he tightened his grip on her elbow in a futile attempt to keep her upright.

"Let's get Bob in" Ant announced as he watched Gillian lying on the ground.

"Bob?" Dec called out.

"I think it's best if we go to a break now..." Ant stated to the camera.

"Yes" Dec agreed.

"And give Gillian the attention she needs and see if she can do it after the break, see you in a few minutes" Ant announced.

As the programme cut to the adverts for the viewers back home,Ant and Dec took a good few steps back to give Bob and his team space to attend to Gillian.

"Is this for real?" Dec whispered into Ants ear.

"What?" Ant asked surprised "what do you mean?do you think she's faking it?"

"Well" Dec continued "who faints like that?usually you just go down like a ton of bricks and I saw her pull her T shirt down"

"Yeah,I saw that too" Ant mused "it was very strange"

"And..." Dec continued "she was rolling her head around,I'm not buying it,that was a fake faint if ever I saw one"

"That's really bad if that's true" Ant frowned "why would she do that?"

"Duh" Dec laughed "to get out of doing the trial obviously"

"I guess" Ant nodded "but that's not on,they all know what they signed up for"

"No,it's very sneaky of her" Dec frowned "but I guess it will give us plenty of piss taking opportunities"

"Yeah, that's true" Ant grinned "bring it on,are we being mean though?"

"Did you see that fake faint Ant?" Dec asked "I'd say she deserves just a little bit of ribbing for the terrible acting alone,we could dine out on this one for years"

"Ha" Ant laughed "yeah, you're right, come on,we're back on air in a minute"

As soon as the boys went live again, they immediately switched back into professional presenter mode, explaining that Gillian was fine, but she wouldn't be taking on the trial and everyone who voted for her would be eligible for a refund.Instead,Linford Christie who was voted second would be taking her place.

Soon the series was wrapped up and Ant and Dec knew it would go down in history as the one where Gillian Mckeith fainted live on telly.Whether the fainting was real or fake would be debated for many years to come, but Ant and Dec had ringside seats and knew exactly what they had witnessed and stuck with that opinion.

The boys enjoyed spending Christmas with their families soon after their return from Australia.Dec was especially pleased that Fonsey still seemed to be doing so well.

He had something else on his mind though as he welcomed in the new year.

Things with Georgie were going in a direction that he wasn't sure about.

She had started talking about marriage and kids a lot and how she wanted to settle down with Dec.They had been together for two years now after all,but Dec had a dreaded feeling of deja vu.

He'd been down this road before with Clare and although it hadn't ultimately been the reason for their break up,that was more down to the fact that they had just drifted apart,he certainly didn't want to feel that pressure again.

"Don't you want to settle down and have kids eventually?" Ant asked as Dec explained his predicament one day.

"Yeah,of course I do" Dec sighed "but I just don't feel really yet"

"Declan" Ant laughed "you're in your late thirties,if you're not ready by now, maybe you never will be?"

"I don't know what it is" Dec sighed "I love kids, you know I do and I like the idea of marriage, but there's just something holding me back"

"Married life is great" Ant smiled "and it just gets better as time goes on"

"For you maybe" Dec frowned "and I can see how happy you and Lisa are,but I still don't feel ready and I'm really not sure why?"

"Umm...well have you considered that Georgie might not be the one?" Ant suggested.

"Yeah,I have" Dec replied sadly "I do love her though and I want our relationship to work out,I just don't want to be pressured into something I'm not ready for"

"Have you told her that?" Ant enquired.

"Yeah,I have" Dec replied glumly.

"What did she say?" Ant asked curiously.

"She cried" Dec replied "talked about her biological clock and all that and how I should want this too if I love her like I say i do"

"I'm sorry Decs" Ant smiled sympathetically "that's a tricky situation, what are you going to do?"

"Stick with it a bit longer I guess and see how it turns out" Dec sighed "I don't want to finish with her,but surely nobody should get married if they don't want to?"

"Of course they shouldn't" Ant confirmed.

"And it's not fair to bring a child into the world under those circumstances is it?" Dec questioned.

"Absolutely not" Ant replied "but even if that did happen,I know you would love it unconditionally, you have a lot of love to give Declan"

"Yeah I do" Dec nodded "but I want my child to be planned when the time eventually comes,I want me and Georgie...if that's who I end up having kids with,to be on the same page and we both have to want it one hundred percent, not for one of us going into it half heartedly, kids are a big commitment and they deserve the best when they're brought into this world"

"Yeah, they do" Ant smiled "you have good morals Dec,you stick to them if that's what makes you happy"

"Yeah,I will" Dec insisted.

Unfortunately, things didn't really get any better between Dec and Georgie,so a few months later,Dec made the decision to end things.

"I'm sorry" Dec said as Georgie cried and begged him to change his mind.

Dec continued to scratch Rolos tummy as the little dog laid on Georgies living room floor.

"But why Dec?" Georgie sobbed "we're happy aren't we?we had plans, what about getting married?having kids?that's our future isn't it?"

"No Georgie" Dec replied firmly "that's your future,I've made it quite clear that I'm not ready for all that, but it's all you've talked about lately,it's wearing me out"

"Well, maybe you should grow up then?" Georgie retorted "when will you be ready?when you're eighty?"

"Don't be ridiculous" Dec sighed "do you really want to settle down with someone who isn't fully on board with it all?that wouldn't be fair on anyone, especially not you"

"Can't we give it one more try?" Georgie begged "please Dec,I don't want to lose you,I love you"

"I love you too but..." Dec replied.

"But what?" Georgie cut in "surely that's all that matters?we love each other, love conquers all and all that"

"I wish it was that simple" Dec sighed.

"It is that simple" Georgie sobbed "I promise I'll stop nagging you if you'll just give us another chance,I won't mention marriage or kids again, not until you do at least"

"I'm sorry Georgie" Dec replied "but it's over"

Dec attempted to comfort his now ex girlfriend by getting up off of the floor and giving her a cuddle, but she pushed him away.

"Get away from me" she muttered tearfully.

Dec sat back down on the floor where he continued to stroke and play with Rolo.

"You think more of the damn dog than you do of me" Georgie snapped after a silent couple of minutes.

"That's not true" Dec sighed "I love you,Rolo is just an added bonus"

"Funny way of showing you love me" Georgie retorted.

"I've explained my reasons" Dec said "you'll be ok Georgie,I know you will, there's someone better out there waiting just for you to come along and brighten their day, someone who wants the same things that you do"

"I don't want anyone else" Georgie snapped "I want you"

"I'm sorry" Dec frowned, kissing Rolos head as the he wagged his tail in appreciation.

"So you're happy to break his heart too?" Georgie asked sarcastically.

"Please don't do this" Dec replied "I'm going to miss him like crazy as well as you,he's the best dog ever"

"I guess he'll just always be wondering where you disappeared to then" Georgie replied "poor little fella"

"I'm sorry" Dec repeated.

The thought of Rolo pining for him and always wondering where his playmate had gone did break Decs heart,if he was honest, the thought of not seeing Rolo upset Dec a little bit more than the thought of not seeing Georgie, but he had to be strong.

He had managed to get through ending the relationship without shedding a tear, although he came close a couple of times, this just confirmed to Dec that he was doing the right thing.

As he left Georgies house,he took a glance backwards and spied her standing in the living room window, holding Rolo, who was securely tucked under her chin as she watched Dec walk down the road.

This unfortunately did bring tears to Decs eyes and he gave himself a telling off for not at least waiting until he got to his car before he cried.

Thankfully there were no paparazzi around as he pulled a tissue out from his jacket pocket and dabbed his eyes discreetly.

"How did it go?" Ant asked the next day as he and Dec sat in their local pub.

"It was hard" Dec sighed "I hate hurting people"

"Of course you do" Ant smiled sympathetically "you're one of lifes nice guys"

"Yeah" Dec nodded "she was just so upset"

"She'll be ok kidda" Ant assured him "she'll find someone who wants exactly what she does"

"Yeah,I hope so" Dec sighed.

"I know so" Ant replied "and you'll be ok too"

"Yeah,I think I will be" Dec smiled.

"Back to valentines day meals with Ali then is it?" Ant laughed.

"Yeah, probably" Dec grinned "but it's only April, who knows where either of us will be by then,we might both be in new relationships"

"Take your time Dec" Ant advised "don't rush into anything new just yet"

"Oh I won't" Dec replied "I'm going to enjoy being single for a while"

"Good lad" Ant replied affectionately.

As usual, the boys busied themselves with work and Dec still went back up to Newcastle as much as work permitted, but it still wasn't as often as he would have liked, but he still spoke to Anne and Fonsey every day.

He was worried though,very worried.

Fonsey had told him that he had started coughing a lot once again and feeling generally unwell and was undergoing more tests.

Dec had started to dread the phone ringing. As much as he loved talking to his parents and wanted to do it as much as possible,he was terrified of hearing the results of those tests.

What if it wasn't good news?how would he cope?his dad had been doing so well since completing chemotherapy last year and the cancer returning would be everyones worse fear.

"Aren't you going to answer that?" Ant asked as his Decs Mobile phone rang one day.

Ant leant over and peered at the screen "it's your mam"

Dec hesitantly picked the phone up from the coffee table in Ants living room.

"Hi Mam" Dec said cautiously.

Ant listened concerned as Dec spoke briefly to his mother, straining to hear what Anne was saying on the other end of the line as Dec certainly wasn't giving much away.

Ant knew of Decs concerns about Fonseys health,of course he did,he and Dec had no secrets from each other after all, especially not about things as important as this.

Ant knew it wasn't good news though as he observed a lone tear trickling down Decs cheek, just before he clumsily dropped his phone to the floor.

Ant quickly retrieved it "Hi Anne, sorry Dec's a bit upset at the moment, can I get him to call you back when he's feeling a bit better?"

"Ok Ant" Anne whispered.Ant could tell that she was crying too.

Ant disconnected the call and placed the phone back down on the table before moving close to Dec and placed a comforting arm around him.

"Decs?" Ant questioned, waiting for his friend to talk.

"It's terminal" Dec stated with a river of tears now coursing down his cheeks.

"Dads cancer is terminal!"
